Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

    Matthew Upson
Former Arsenal and Brighton defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think changes were going to be made to shake things up.

I think Aston Villa will want to be more progressive and aggressive with their play from midfield.

And Marco Asensio should bring that spark in attack.

Russ: Who would have believed at the beginning of the season that City won't make it to KO stage, Liverpool will be eliminated in R16 and both Villa and Arsenal would play QF!

Have people heard of tactics? Bruges passing well but got 20 minutes in without having a shot, and Villa had couple of balls threatening to put a forward few before the red card. It's nervy to watch but Villa have executed it fairly well.

Watching the first half of the Arsenal game, it feels very much like an overseas exhibition tour game. Lots of changes, a leisurely pace, and a few warmly celebrated goals.

  12. 'Real's xG tells you all about their first half'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

HT: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid (agg: 2-2)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Atletico have not just defended well, they have been brilliant on the counter-attack as well. Their gameplan is working perfectly, helped of course by that early goal.

Real just can't find a way through at the moment and their xG of 0.08 tells you all about their first half. Because there is no way through for them down the flanks or through the middle, they've been left to pass the ball back to their full-backs to deliver the crosses into the Atletico area, and the quality has not been there to cause them any problems.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

Ross Matthewman: Probably astute tactics, but parking the bus and playing at a walking pace isn’t going to help the nerves at Villa park, especially when 3-1 up and the opposition are down to 10

  15. Postpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter at Villa Park

It's been a bit flat at Villa Park - despite Brugge going down to 10 men - but the hosts are almost there.

  16. 'Emery won't be happy with that performance'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

    Matthew Upson
Former Arsenal and Brighton defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a march down the touchline from Unai Emery into the tunnel, looking at the floor, no eye contact with anyone and I don't think he is going to be too happy with that Aston Villa performance.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)
