Motherwell became the first side to book their place in the League Cup last four on Friday night with a dramatic win over Dundee United at Fir Park.

Zach Robinson's stunning opener was matched by former Well striker Louis Moult's beauty of an equaliser, but a foul on Moses Ebiye in second-half stoppage time gave the hosts a golden chance to seal a spot at Hampden.

With ice in his veins, up stepped 18-year-old Lennon Miller to send his team to the national stadium in November, sparking wild scenes in Lanarkshire.

Pittodrie is the venue this evening for a classic David and Goliath League Cup encounter as high flying Premiership Aberdeen roll out the welcome mat to fourth-tier Spartans.

Dons boss Jimmy Thelin has made a seamless start to life in Scottish football, putting together an unblemished record of 10 wins from 10 games in all competitions.

Can he take his side to 11th heaven tonight? Booking a semi-final trip to Hampden would be the perfect way to do it.

But Thelin is not a man who gets carried away and he will certainly not be looking beyond this game.

In fact, Spartans will be looking to tear up the script tonight.

It is incredible to think that just a couple of years ago they were playing in the Lowland League - now they are just a game away from a place in the last four of one of the Scottish game’s major cup competitions.

Make no mistake, Dougie Samuel’s side - who are fourth in League 2 - are huge underdogs.

But they have already claimed one Premiership scalp in this competition - taking care of Ross County in the last round - and with the pressure off, Samuel will be dreaming of upsetting the odds once again.

After a brief spell at the national stadium, Rangers return home later on for their League Cup quarter-final tie with Dundee.

Their stint at Hampden was because of delayed construction work on the Copland Road stand, which will be partially open this evening.

Their last game at Ibrox before tonight? A 5-2 win against Dundee, funnily enough, five months ago.

We'll have team news for this one in a wee bit.

  4. HALF-TIME St Mirren 2-1 Heartspublished at 15:53 British Summer Time

Hearts are staring down the barrel of an eighth successive loss, with all the goals in Paisley coming from set-pieces.

Both teams scored from their first corner kicks, the opener reassessed as a Gerald Taylor own goal before Craig Halkett levelled.

The visitors were playing the slicker football but fell behind again when static defending allowed Toyosi Olusanya to pick up the scraps from a free-kick and smash home.

    St Mirren 2-1 Hearts

    Jane Lewis
    BBC Scotland in Paisley

Steven Naismith is looking extremely frustrated down there in his technical area. He's pacing up and down, and at times his arms come out at his side as if he's looking for an explanation from his players.

They just don't look comfortable at all. The Hearts boss will no doubt have plenty to say to them at the break.

The goals are flowing in the Championship as Zak Delaney puts Morton in front at Cappielow.

    Ross County 1-0 St Johnstone

Ross County go looking for a second but it's a tame effort from Noah Chilvers on the edge of the box.

Up the other end Andre Raymond tries his luck from distance but it's no trouble for Ross Laidlaw.

  16. From one Taylor to anotherpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time

    St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

It seems that St Mirren opener has been whipped off Richard Taylor and been awarded as an own goal for namesake Gerald Taylor of Hearts.

Must've been headed off the full-back.

  17. Postpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time

    St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

The visitors continue to look much the more menacing side but the ball just won't fall for Lawrence Shankland in the penalty area as it skips up and hits him in the face.

That rather sums up the striker's start to the season.

    Ross County 1-0 St Johnstone

That finish marks a fifth Ross County goal for summer signing Ronan Hale.
