A night full of drama and a night when it paid to begin with B.

Wins for Birmingham, Burton and Blackpool in League One and Bromley in League Two as the night delivered on pre-match promise.

Only Doncaster bucked the trend taking the three points from a six-goal thriller against Fleetwood.

EFL action takes a breath for a day but we hope you will join us for our live text coverage of a potential firecracker between Burnley and Middlesbrough in the Championship on Friday night.

Doncaster picked up where they left off after their FA Cup win on Sunday to beat Fleetwood 4-2.

That win moves Rovers up to third in the table and only three points behind leaders Port Vale.

Grant McCann's side have now only lost one of their past 10 league games.

It's certainly tight at the top end of the League Two table.

Peterborough's surprise home defeat drops them one place to 15th whilst Burton Albion leapfrog Shrewsbury Town off the bottom of the table on goal difference following their second win of the season.

Both the Brewers and the Shrews remain another seven points from safety in League One.

Birmingham's win sees them close the gap to Wrexham, who sit just one point above Blues in the automatic spots having played two games more.

Stockport County stay fifth after tonight's result- an admiral effort at this stage of the season from the promoted club.

Meanwhile, Blackpool are up to 12th following their comeback win at Shrewsbury.

  5. 'The intensity was there for Blues'published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    FT: Birmingham 2-0 Stockport

    Matt Mitchell
    BBC Radio WM summariser

The goal was to get three points, we always want to get three points. Birmingham City are yet to give any opposition the sort of hiding that their play expects.

The intensity was there for Blues in the first half, but they struggled to get it going in the second half.

But the silver lining is that not only have they come away with three points, but a clean sheet as well.

  6. Shrewsbury 'ran out of steam'published at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    FT: Shrewsbury 1-2 Blackpool

    Glen Little
Ex-Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

A good win in the end. The first half it was important to get in at 1-0 because those first 25 minutes they could of been out of it, they got a real battering.

Shrewsbury got that fluke, freak goal that shocked us and it was all Shrewsbury but they hung on in. They got to half-time and we said, 'We are not sure how this is going to play out,' but then they came out and got the goal.

Even after that second goal there was a lot of football to play. But Shrewsbury never looked like scoring and they ran out of steam.

    Bromley 2-1 Gillingham

A big win for Bromley thanks to goals from Cameron Congreve and Jude Arthurs.

The Ravens, who drew their previous four league games before tonight, are now undefeated in their past six League Two games and move up to 19th in the table.

That’s now seven defeats in their past nine league games for Gillingham who suffer back-to-back losses. They remain 12th.

The visitors claim all three points on the road following a spirited second-half fightback!

The hosts went ahead after four minutes following one of the most bizarre goals you're likely to see all season.

Deep into his own half, Mal Benning launched a free-kick into the Blackpool area but the ball alluded everyone and somehow bounced over Harry Tyrer into the back of the visitors net.

Steve Bruce's half-time team talk worked wonders, however, and his side levelled seven minutes into the second half when James Husband's ball across the face of goal was lashed into his own net by Aaron Pierre.

Five minutes later, Josh Onomah lashed home Ashley Fletcher's knock down with his left foot from approximately 18 yards to complete the turnaround and seal the three points for the Seasiders.

Blackpool go 12th into the top half whilst Shrewsbury Town go to the foot of the table following Burton Albion's win tonight at Peterborough.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Fleetwood 2-4 Doncaster

Doncaster pick up all three points in a game which had five goals in the first half at Highbury Stadium.

Kyle Hurst gave Doncaster the lead but Mark Helm got the leveller for Fleetwood.

Owen Bailey put Doncaster back in front five minutes later only to be pegged back three minutes later by Ryan Graydon's goal.

Billy Sharp’s finish just before the break gave Rovers the lead going in at half-time.

Rhys Bennett’s own goal added a fourth for Doncaster in the second half and they have now only lost one of their past 10 league games and move up to third in the table.

It’s now just the one league win in their past seven games for Fleetwood.

  10. CHANCE!published at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Shrewsbury 1-2 Blackpool

    Its all going off here!

First, Blackpool assistant manager Steve Agnew is sent to the stands for talking out of turn, a decision he seemed rather amused about with a nearby steward.

Then, on the break, the visitors had a glorious chance to wrap up the points when substitute Terry Bondo beared down on goal but he took far too long to get his shot away and Shrewsbury were able to clear.

We're into the seventh minute of injury time here after Kyle Joseph went down injured following a heavy collision and the physio has signalled for him to be substituted.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Peterborough 0-1 Burton Albion

Just a second win of the season for Burton Albion! What a team performance!

A second half goal from Mason Bennett was enough for the three points who limited a Posh side, who before today had scored 18 goals in their last four home games in all comps, to just one shot on target.

With Shrewsbury losing at Blackpool, the win lifts Burton Albion off the bottom of the League One table.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Birmingham 2-0 Stockport

Only a second defeat for Stockport on the road this season. And it is a win for Birmingham which takes them on to the shoulder of Wrexham, just a point behind in third with two games in hand.

Chris Davies's side are three points behind leaders Wycombe with one game in hand.

Alfie May takes the plaudits with two goals, taking him to seven for the season, but in truth Stockport can hold their heads high on their overall display and particularly a second half they shaded.

  13. CLOSE!published at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Shrewsbury 1-2 Blackpool

A goalmouth scramble after an excellent Shrewsbury corner is repelled by Pool keeper Harry Tyrer on his own goalline but the assistant referee had already signalled for offside.

Five additional minutes have been added here and we're already into the second of those with Pool looking to see this one out.

  14. Postpublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Birmingham 2-0 Stockport

Little bit of concern for Stockport as Louie Barry goes down again after a lung-bursting run into the opposition area.

Defeat can be dealt with but the loss of the division's leading scorer could not.

Happily it looks like it was a bit of cramp.

  15. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Peterborough 0-1 Burton Albion

Three minutes of additional time signalled.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:33 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Shrewsbury 1-2 Blackpool

Several changes to update you at the Croud Meadow.

Shrewsbury's Tom Bloxham, Leo Castledine and Taylor Perry have all come off to be replaced by Tommi O'Reilly, George Lloyd and Jordan Shipley.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce has also been busy and makes four changes of his own.

Josh Onomah, Albie Morgan, Robbie Apter and Ashley Fletcher have come off for Dominic Thompson, Ryan Finnigan, Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel and 17-year-old Terry Bondo.

  17. 'It would be a great win for Blackpool'published at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Shrewsbury 1-2 Blackpool

    Glen Little
Ex-Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

Every ball that has been turned towards the Blackpool goal has been dealt with well.

It would be a great win for Blackpool after turning the game around. Especially after the first 25 minutes they had.

  18. Postpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Birmingham 2-0 Stockport

Jack Diamond sends a lovely ball to the far stick but Isaac Olaofe takes the ball off the arriving Louie Barrie, much to the frustration of the 21-year-old who whacks his boot against the post.

Now Diamond takes matters into his own hands and fires a fizzing shot just wide of Ryan Allsop's right-hand post.

Just five minutes of normal time left and time very much running out for the visitors.

  19. Postpublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Peterborough 0-1 Burton Albion

Ironic cheers from the home support as, after 82 minutes, they register their first shot on target but Malik Mothersille's tame effort from the inside-left position is sent straight into the gloves of the Burton keeper.

  20. Postpublished at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Birmingham 2-0 Stockport

Time is running out for Stockport who really need something now if they are to set up a 10-minute chase for an equaliser but they are finding the final pass eluding them.

Final throw of the dice for Dave Challinor who sends on Omatayo Adaramola, no doubt with the instruction to "get amongst it".
