  1. Sutton's prediction: 'Close, but City going out'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Real Madrid v Man City (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Celtic striker on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

I am expecting Manchester City to score, but I can’t see them keeping Real out. When you look at City’s defensive record they have hardly kept a clean sheet all season.

Still, you can’t totally rule City out because of their own attacking threat, and they will have opportunities tonight, even with Erling Haaland starting on the bench and Antonio Rudiger back in Real’s defence.

Real were the better team in the first leg at Etihad Stadium but City will have some confidence after their win over Newcastle at the weekend.

Omar Marmoush had to start, and a lot depends on Nico Gonzalez at the heart of City’s midfield. It’s going to be close, but I think Real will get through,

Sutton's prediction: 1-1 (Real to win 4-3 on aggregate)

You can hear more from Sutton on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

Pep Guardiola has been criticised before for overcomplicating things and 'overthinking it' but with Erling Haaland, if he is fit you do not leave him out of a game like this.

Just over 80 minutes played and Sporting still haven't had a shot on target.

They have been very underwhelming over the two legs.

City have been so ridiculously unlucky with injuries this season, they get one back and then two or three more go out. Losing Haaland for this is such a blow.

  5. Bernardo as a false nine again?published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Real Madrid v Man City (20:00 GMT)

It will be very interesting to see how Manchester City line up tonight. The assumption is that Omar Marmoush will play in the Erling Haaland role but the last time City won in Madrid, in October 2020, Bernardo Silva played as a false nine, alternating with Kevin de Bruyne.

Marmoush on the left, Phil Foden in the no.10 role and Savinho on the right wing were all impressive against Newcastle on Saturday. Could Pep stick with that trio in the same positions here, behind Bernardo?

  6. 'Marmoush will cause Madrid defence different problems'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Real Madrid v Man City (20:00 GMT)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

We certainly weren't expecting to see a Man City team sheet tonight without Erling Haaland.

The way that Omar Marmoush played at the weekend against Newcastle, it may not be a bad thing for him to get in the side.

He is a great replacement for Haaland albeit he is a different type of player. He will run in behind, cause the Real Madrid defence different types of problems.

We all know what Haaland brings to City though and it is a blow for them.

Real Madrid v Man City (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Celtic striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It would be really odd if Erling Haaland isn't either ill or injured. He scored both Man City goals in the reverse fixture. It is going to be one of those two things.

There is no way that for a game of this magnitude Pep Guardiola just leaves him out.

It would be a huge achievement for Man City to overturn the first leg deficit this evening.

If we were talking about a Man City team from last season coming here trying to overturn a one goal deficit then you'd think 'Yeah ok, they've got half a chance.'

As it is, the level of expectation is slightly less than it would have been say six months ago.

Some quite big news that Erling Haaland is not in the Man City team, he is a substitute, as is Kevin de Bruyne.

Omar Marmoush, the man who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, will play in the Haaland role tonight. That has caused quite a stir here.

  16. Haaland absence a huge blowpublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Real Madrid v Man City (20:00 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Bernabeu

If Manchester City's task here at The Bernabeu was not hard enough, it has just got even harder with the news that Erling Haaland is only fit enough to be on the bench.

Haaland pulled up in the win against Newcastle United with a problem to his right knee. Manager Pep Guardiola was playing his cards close to his chest about selection last night and this is a huge blow.

He is at least on the bench should City require him at some point Kevin De Brune is also on the bench.

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club

It will be interesting to see how Manchester City go about it.

Does Pep Guardiola play Omar Marmoush up alongside Erling Haaland and say 'we want to get a goal back straight away'?

Does he compact the midfield and say 'we stay in the game for as long as we can' and bring him on with half an hour to go and maybe unleash that pace later on in the game?

  20. Real have a small advantage - Ancelottipublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Carlo Ancelotti believes Real Madrid only have a "small advantage" over Manchester City.

Holders Real scored two late goals to win 3-2 at Etihad Stadium on 11 February and will go through to the last 16 if they avoid defeat on their home ground.

City boss Pep Guardiola said that his side has a 1% chance of going through, but Ancelotti said: "He doesn't really think so [that City have a 1% chance to go through].

"We don't think we have a 99% chance. We have a small advantage and we have to take advantage of it.

"We have to play the same game as in the first leg, because it went well, but we have to take into account the difficulties. We are trying to prepare well."
