There is no way we are beating Man Utd 5-0 on Sunday. Yet another absurd prediction from Sutton to follow his 5-1 prediction in Aug 2022 when Man Utd won 2-1. These are not predictions they are jokes.

    Alan

Is Chris Sutton's latest prediction as triggering for you as it clearly was for Alan?

The historic rivalry between these two clubs is intense but, on the pitch, the contest is not even close at the moment.

Manchester United boss Amorim is talking about being in a relegation battle and you can see why.

His side were torn apart in the first 30 minutes by Newcastle at Old Trafford on Monday, and why would anything be different at Anfield?

Whoever Liverpool pick, they have got goals in their team and United have no chance of keeping them out.

The scoreline won't hit double figures but anything else is possible, and that is me being nice to United. Liverpool should demolish them, and they will demolish them - it is just a question of how many goals they get.

United will play for pride, play for the badge and for the jersey, and all of that, but it won't make any difference.

Liverpool are in a different stratosphere at the moment and I feel sorry for Amorim because this is going to be another painful afternoon for him.

There is plenty for you to talk about and get involved with in regards to this weekend's fixtures.

Liverpool v Man Utd at Anfield - who needs it more?

Should Arsenal win on Saturday and Liverpool drop points against United, how do you think the Premier League leaders would respond to that kind of pressure?

Alternatively, a loss for United would leave them with just one league win in seven games for new manager Ruben Amorim and could, unbelievably, move them closer to the bottom three.

Away from that - what other fixtures are you looking forward to this weekend? Any going under the radar that you think are going to deliver?!

Get in touch using the usual methods and remember to leave your name on your messages. Thanks!

  5. Can Arsenal pile the pressure on Liverpool?published at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

Brighton v Arsenal (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

Arsenal have the chance to move to within three points of Liverpool with victory against Brighton on Saturday.

With the Gunners playing 24 hours before the leaders, Mikel Arteta's side have the chance to ramp up the pressure on the Reds before they face Manchester United on Sunday.

If Arsenal were to close the gap to three points, Liverpool would still have the chance to extend that back to nine with their two games in hand, but there is saying and then there is doing.

That little bit of added pressure could prove huge from an Arsenal perspective.

  7. 'Everton to stage three test games at new stadium'published at 07:59 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The Guardian

We finish today's round-up of the morning newspapers with a line from the Guardian on Everton's preparations for their new stadium at Bramley-Moore dock.

According to the report, they will hold the first of three test events at the stadium next month as the club bids to obtain the licence and safety certificates required for them to operate at full capacity next season.

There is also a line about Championship side Plymouth's decision to scrap plans to make a documentary about their battle to beat the drop following Wayne Rooney's departure this week as manager.

  8. Alexander-Arnold will not leave this month, insist Liverpoolpublished at 07:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The I

The i reports that Liverpool will not countenance selling England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, no matter how big an offer comes in from Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold is out of contract in the summer and is now free to talk with the Spanish and European champions about a possible free transfer at the end of the season.

But Real are understood to have already had an initial inquiry rejected for the 26-year-old full-back as they bid to sign him in the current transfer window.

If there is mixed messaging about the extent of Saudi interest in Marcus Rashford, there is none about Manchester United's profit and sustainability position.

United have very little chance of adding new players to head coach Ruben Amorim's squad without getting some out.

There is a long list of players they would be willing to trade - Brazilian duo Casemiro and Antony for a start. But they are on such huge wages, it is not entirely clear which clubs would be keen to sign them.

Paris St-Germain defender Nuno Mendes has been mentioned as a potential signing but the Portuguese is in contract negotiations with the French club, so United may be being used as a bargaining chip.

  10. 'Amad for it'published at 07:41 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The Daily Star

Marcus Rashford is not the only Manchester United player to be hitting the headlines this morning, with the Star choosing to lead on Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo, who is reportedly closing in on a bumper new deal at Old Trafford.

The story says that the 22-year-old's current contract runs until June but United have the option to extend it for another 12 months. However, manager Ruben Amorim is understood to be keen to offer Diallo a longer-term deal.

  11. 'Don't panic, I'll be back'published at 07:34 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The Daily Express

Spain midfielder Rodri is backing himself to recover from a knee injury and return this season to help Manchester City battle back from their "critical" position, the Express reports.

The 28-year-old, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the third game of the season, has also urged his team-mates to "stick together" to recover their form after an alarming downturn in results, which has seen the defending Premier League champions drop to sixth in the table, 14 points behind leaders Liverpool.

  12. Rashford no to Saudipublished at 07:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

There is a little bit of uncertainty over the extent of Saudi Pro-League interest in Marcus Rashford, with some sources saying there have been offers, others saying there is firm interest and others distancing themselves - but it all boils down to the same thing.

Rashford is not interested in moving there.

The Manchester United forward still has England ambitions and feels they would be best served by staying in Europe.

It has been stressed from both sides there has been no significant fall-out between Rashford and head coach Ruben Amorim. However, Amorim was critical of Rashford's performance in training and his general attitude ahead of the Manchester derby last month.

After leaving Rashford out of four games completely, Amorim restored the 27-year-old to his squad for the Newcastle game on Monday.

That Rashford remained on the bench throughout as United suffered a fourth straight defeat and their third without scoring told its own story.

I suspect there will be a move for Rashford before the transfer window closes, probably on loan initially, but it may take a while to sort.

  13. 'Man Utd could consider Rashford loan move'published at 07:23 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    The Daily Telegraph

The Telegraph's story on Marcus Rashford includes more detail on the position taken by Manchester United, who are reportedly looking to offload the England forward as they attempt to remain within profitability and sustainability rules while also freshening up Ruben Amorim's squad.

According to the report, United's bosses are willing to consider a loan move for a fee if the club is willing to cover most of Rashford's £300,000-a-week wages.

  14. 'Tuchel's era begins with scouting trip to Tottenham'published at 07:17 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The Times

The Times also leads on Marcus Rashford's decision to turn down three offers from Saudi Arabia, reporting that the proposed deals would have made him one of the best-paid players in the world and "comfortably" inside the top-10 earners in the Saudi Pro League.

There is also a story on England manager Thomas Tuchel, who will begin his reign as Three Lions boss with a scouting trip to Tottenham's match at home to Newcastle in Saturday's early kick-off.

  15. 'Rashford snubs £35m Saudi deal'published at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Friday's newspapers

    The Daily Mail

The Mail reports that Marcus Rashford has rejected three offers from the Saudi Pro League that topped out at £673,000 a week, more than double his current £315,000-a-week deal at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old has also reportedly ruled out a potential move to Turkey and would only join a competitive club that would give him a chance to win back his place in the England squad.
