As if the footballing calendar wasn't packed enough for you, don't forget the transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Friday, 30 August and the futures of many players are still up in the air.

We take a look at some of those who could be on the move here.

  2. Brighton sign Euro 2024 playerpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 27 August

    Brighton v Crawley (19:45 BST)

Brighton have just announced the signing of Turkey full-back Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce for an undisclosed fee.

He has signed a four-year deal and was paraded to the fans on the pitch today - although he is not eligible to make his debut yet.

  3. 'We won't change our approach'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 27 August

Birmingham City v Fulham (20:00 BST)

    Birmingham City

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies speaking to Sky Sports: "We have a couple of changes and we kept a similar team. It is a great occasion for our club. We are welcoming a Premier League team here and it will be a big test but it is a chance to showcase what we have and what we have got.

"We have to understand that they are a top-quality side. They are good in every phase of the game so it's going to be difficult for us to be dominant but we aren't going to change our approach. We will see where we go with that and there are going to be times when Fulham have the ball. We are ready for that and for the challenge."

  4. 'I like these do-or-die games'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 27 August

Crystal Palace v Norwich (20:00 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaking to Sky Sports: "I like these do-or-die games. There will always be a winner after the game and there is no draw. We hope that we get the win tonight.

"Every professional player should be able to play three games within a week. This shouldn't be a problem. It is really great that Cheick Doucoure is back after his nine-month injury, we need him to get his minutes and get back in shape."

I can never understand the logic of Premier League teams not putting out a full team. A Carabao Cup win means European football which then gives you the advantage of enticing players to come play for your club.

  7. Not-so-merry Millers and London rivals renew acquaintancespublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 27 August

Charlie Adam's Fleetwood have made a solid enough start to life down in League Two and shocked Championship West Brom in the first round of this competition. They welcome a Rotherham side who were backed to challenge in League One this campaign but, three games in, haven't scored a goal.

Grimsby Town progressed to the second round thanks to a 9-8 victory on penalties against League Two rivals Bradford. Tonight's visitors Sheffield Wednesday were beaten finalists in this competition back in 1993.

Harrogate's early season League Two form suggests another season of midtable mediocrity with one win, one draw and one defeat from their three games so far. New Preston gaffer Paul Heckingbottom helped his side to a 1-0 win over Luton in his first game in charge on Saturday.

Surprisingly, this is a first meeting since April 2010 for London rivals Millwall and Leyton Orient. Both of these teams are without a league win this season, with the Lions having taken one point from three in the Championship, while the O's have lost their three League One games to teams tipped for promotion.

  8. Brighton meet neighbours for first time since 1992published at 19:30 British Summer Time 27 August

    Brighton v Crawley (19:45 BST)

This is only the second ever Sussex derby between Brighton and Crawley.

Albion won an FA Cup tie 5-0 in 1992.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is impressed by opposite number Scott Lindsey, who led Crawley to promotion out of League Two last season.

"They have a great idea of playing and they are a very good opponent," he said.

"They always try to build up from the back. I love the ideas from their coach. It's very enjoyable to watch their team playing and that's why we know it’s a challenge and we try to go for it."

    We're up and running!

Stoke break down their right and cut the ball back to young striker Emre Tezgel, he's all alone and cool as you like slots the ball home.

Seconds after the restart he should have a second but fluffs one wide.

  11. Can Birmingham keep unbeaten start going?published at 19:24 British Summer Time 27 August

    Birmingham v Fulham (20:00 BST)

Fulham boss Marco Silva says they will respect League One side Birmingham City.

The Cottagers reached the semi-finals of last season's Carabao Cup.

"We respected the competition last season and the ambition in the competition is really high," he said.

"We have to respect them. They are in a different division but they are probably favourites to go up."

Chris Davies is yet to lose since taking over big-spending Birmingham City in the summer.

"That will be a really exciting game against Premier League opposition," the 39-year-old said.

"It is a game we have really earned, going away from home and beating Charlton to set this game up.

"I am really looking forward to it because it is a chance to really measure ourselves against a good, solid Premier League team."

QPR will be wondering how they didn't get their first league win of the Championship season on Saturday against a Plymouth side who played almost an hour with 10 men and ended the match with nine. Luton are without a win full stop since being relegated from the Premier League and will hope to kickstart their season this evening.

Shrewsbury sit bottom of League One after starting the season with three successive defeats. Bolton, beaten play-off finalists in that league last season, have eyes on promotion but fell to a 2-0 loss at Charlton on Saturday.

Walsall made a fine start to the season with three successive wins in all competitions before going down 1-0 at Tranmere in League Two on Saturday. No such issues for their opponents tonight. Huddersfield, relegated from the Championship last season, have played four and won four this campaign.

Watford, like the Terriers, also carry a 100% record into their tie tonight. The Championship table-toppers welcome Wayne Rooney's Plymouth, fresh from battling to a point at Loftus Road on Saturday.

  13. Can 'confident' Doncaster add to Everton woes?published at 19:21 British Summer Time 27 August

    Everton v Doncaster (19:45 BST)

The mood is low at Everton after defeats in their opening two Premier League games.

And it could get worse if they lose to Doncaster, who have won two of their opening three League Two games.

"It is like groundhog day," said former Everton midfielder Andros Townsend on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club.

"At the end of last season they seemed to have got it together, were on a bit of a roll and it seemed positive going into the summer. But they have had financial fair play issues this summer and they have had to sell players again.

"Sean Dyche is the perfect man for the club through this turmoil."

Doncaster boss Grant McCann said: "We’re looking forward to the challenge. We are in confident mood.

"It will be a great day for the players to take on a Premier League team and for our supporters to be there to witness it."

  14. Two teams looking for confidence-boosting winpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 27 August

Crystal Palace v Norwich (20:00 BST)

Crystal Palace have lost both their opening Premier League games as they struggle to get back to the flying form of last season under Oliver Glasner.

"It’s still early on in the season so it is a good chance to bounce back," said defender Marc Guehi, who is a target for Newcastle United.

"We’re going to need a reaction, we’re going to need everyone to get a good result and move on into the next round."

Norwich's 4-3 win over Stevenage in the last round is their only win yet under new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Stoke

An incredible early miss for Boro.

Josh Coburn is played through on goal, he runs from halfway and doesn't have a Stoke defender within sight. Just the keeper to beat, he gives him the eyes...and puts it wide!

  16. A Yorkshire derby, a Lancashire derby and... Derbypublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 27 August

Middlesbrough v Stoke is one of 13 all-EFL ties this evening. One of the other stand outs of that baker's dozen sees Barnsley host Sheffield United in a South Yorkshire derby. The Blades have sold 5,000 tickets for the tip to their near neighbours.

Barrow host Derby up in Cumbria with the fourth tier Bluebirds looking to cause an upset and reach the third round for the first time since 1967-68.

There's another derby as Championship Blackburn welcome Lancashire rivals Blackpool. The Seasiders are without a manager after parting company with Neil Critchley two games into the League One season.

Fans heading to Coventry's game with Oxford could be forgiven for having a sense of deja vu. The pair met in the Championship at the Ricoh Arena just 11 days ago. That one finished 3-2 to the home side so hopefully more of the same kind of drama tonight.

  17. Leicester 'in competition mode now'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 27 August

    Leicester v Tranmere (19:45 BST)

Steve Cooper is still looking for his first win as Leicester City boss after a draw and defeat to open the Premier League season.

"We’re in competition mode now and although I really believe in the work at the training ground and the preparation that goes into games, it’s about matchdays and what you deliver on them that allows you to progress," he said.

"There’s two more games this week and we’ll obviously take them very seriously one by one and grow the squad to make sure that we’re at the level that we want to be at."

Tranmere are unbeaten in three League Two games.

Crystal Palace v Norwich (20:00 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have lost both of their first two Premier League games this season so boss Oliver Glasner has clearly decided his main men need more minutes to get up to speed. England internationals Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze both start, as does striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Midfielder Cheick Doucoure makes his first start since a ruptured Achilles in the defeat by Luton in November.

Championship Norwich, also without a win in the league this season, make more changes than their higher tier opponents. Panama international Jose Cordoba comes in for his first start.

Crystal Palace XI: Henderson, Clyne, Guehi, Riad, Munoz, Hughes, Doucoure, Mitchell, Kamada, Eze, Mateta.

Norwich City XI: Long, Fisher, Hanley, Cordoba, Chrisene, Nunez, Gibbs, Forson, Forsyth, Crnac, Hernandez.
