I think he's [Ruben Amorim] got a clear identity of how he wants to play, I think he's got a clear message of how he wants every individual player to be in possession, out of possession, that will take time. He's alluded to the fact that it will take time to implement his style and the way he wants to go about things.

But I do think if you're going to concede goals like they have and set plays then they're going to find it increasingly difficult.

Manchester United

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund speaking to Sky Sports:

"Annoying goals of course, we need to do better, specifically on corners, we've conceded too much now but I'm sure we'll improve.

"I think maybe the opponent was thinking [we lacked confidence at corners]. I think it's more about us being in a new position, new ideas, new set-piece coach, but we need to understand his ideas.

"It's a lot to take in but we need to deal with it, we are Manchester Unted and we need to do better.

"There's a lot of games left but it's not an ideal situation, but we need to try and stay positive."

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo told Sky Sports:

"We spend a lot of time on training ground practicing set-pieces

"The only thing I think we should have done better was on counter-attacks, not the threats but finishing them off. The second half was about trying to close down the game."

On Chris Wood, who became Forest's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League:

"We are very thankful we have Chris with us. It's his birthday today, 33, it means a lot to have him as an example to the young lads.

"I'm very proud of the way we work together, build things together, from the owner to everyone else in the club. It's a moment to celebrate. But for me, I'm thinking about Aston Villa."

I'd like to give him [Andre Onana] some credit and say the ball deviated a little bit but it's hardly a knuckle ball.

He should be saving it.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo told BBC Sport: "Not many things to be upset about. the boys did amazing. Scoring in the first action makes everything different. After that we were good.

"The belief of the players believing every action is important [is key to early goals]. The beginning of the second half was very good for us too. Compsure was good. The team is growing, improving. We still have things to address but it's nice.

"A tough time is about trying to get the details right. First half we were organised but allowing United to break to the wide areas. It's about adjusting details.

"It was a big ask for us to come to Manchester three days time after a tough game against City. The consistency of set-pieces gives you success.

"It's very important always to bounce back after a bad result. We didn't have a bad performance against City. Fresh leg made a difference during the game."

On Chris Wood: "He's doing amazing. We're so glad to have him. It's never too late."

Nottingham Forest have done brilliantly this season. The way they set up when they go to the big teams, they did it at Liverpool, they really stifled them and closed the spaces down.

It's not just about their defensive structure, they have the ability to carry a threat on the counter as well and they did that today. I think they were terrific.

There were some fantastic goals, including from Bruno Fernandes to pull one back.

Overall, what a performance from Nottingham Forest. They had real authority, real craft and guile, hard work, dedication and a plan.

On substitutions: "Bruno [Fernandes] was too tired and I wanted [Mason] Mount to play that position of second midfielder who opens a bit on the left.

"Josh [Zirkzee] plays with Rasmus [Hojllund] to have combinations, [Leny] Yoro goes off because we can't give him too many minutes.

"We put Harry Maguire on because of set-pieces, to control more who was winning all the first balls, the only way to attack Nottingham was transitions, to try and win first and second balls. When Harry was on the pitch he won all the first balls.

On a tough start to life at United:

"It's not a surprise becaues we come in the middle of a lot of games.

"It's really dissapointing for the fans, after so many times with dissapointment, but we are here to do a job and will continue doing the same things to imrpove the team."

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth just walked through the media room, heading from one part of the stadium to another.

He kept his head down and didn't make eye contact with the journalists present.

Ashworth and the other United executives have a lot of work in front of them over the next weeks and months.

In an interview with the United We Stand fanzine that was on sale outside the ground today, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said United had become a 'mediocre' club. Today was a mediocre performance.

Tom: A poor start for a new Manchester utd manager is actually giving me more hope that he can be the right man in the long term. No new manager bounce but he knows how much work he needs to put in

Dan: Brilliant game of football. Goals, near misses, VAR not ruining the fun; just top entertainment. Fernandes being subbed off the main talking point for me; he was the best player United had out there and I thought he had another goal in him.

When we're talking about set pieces I think we can be overanalytical these days and go into so much detail until we're almost blue in the face. Ultimately, go and attack the ball, be aggressive and get first contact on the ball. United didn't do that enough today.

Manchester United

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim told BBC Sport: "Tough game. We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it's hard to try to fight. We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations.

"We improved the movement in the last third. We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.

"We didn't have many situations to score.

"Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.

"This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects.

"We have to win games to help us improve the team.

"We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail. We already know it's a big job so we have to continue."

Ruben Amorim has lost a home league match for the first time since February 2023, when he was in charge of Sporting CP (1-2 v FC Porto), having won each of his last 23 such games prior to today.

He has also lost back-to-back top-flight matches for just the second time in his managerial career.

Chris Wood on Forest scoring from a corner: "Everybody know the emphasis on set-pieces these days, it's huge, a big avenue for and against. We did well today."

On his goal: "Morgs [Gibbs-White] has put in a fantastic delivery, he's got quality the boy, it's just about finding areas to cause confusion."

What an absolutely brilliant game of football for the neutral. It was end-to-end, entertaining, goals, drama and excellent bits of play.

It was thoroughly deserved from Nottingham Forest, that is them back to their best and back to the form we've seen this season already.

Their players put in an absolute shift, especially in midfield with Elliot Anderson and Ryan Yates.

Their fans are in heaven right now, the noise from their end is deafening.

Alan: Doesn't matter how many managers you throw at United, if you don't have the players it's never going to get any better.

Justin: Ugarte - no left foot, not good enough. Mason Mount is awful. Rashford is past it. Dalot is average at best. I'm not even a United fan but this is sad to watch.

Tim: Even taking the Arsenal defeat as read, United are heading for 4 points from 9 under Amorim from Ipswich, Everton and Forest. Hardly a step change from Ten Hag....

For Ruben Amorim it is perhaps a reminder of the work he has ahead to transform Manchester United. His Premier League record currently stands at P4 W1 D1 L2

Nottingham Forest fans are rightly savouring this famous win and will no doubt be celebrating long into the night. It has taken them a couple of seasons but they look a decent Premier League side now capable of taking games to the established bigger sides.
