One thing Villa couldn't afford to do was concede first - they had such control of the game in the first 10 minutes.

They have to defend almost perfectly tonight, and that is not a good start.

Villa can't cope with the Olympiakos press.

Game over for Villa. Would take something extra special to turn this around

Olympiakos 1-0 Aston Villa (agg: 5-2)

    Neil Lennon
Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Olympiakos get lucky. The first cross is cut out by John McGinn and it goes straight to Daniel Podence, who finds Quini on the overlap. I don't know where Pau Torres is and the big man El Kaabi taps into an open net. Totally against the run of play. Villa need three goals now just to take it to extra time.

  5. Postpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 9 May

Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 Roma (agg: 2-0)

A strange dynamic to this tie where a 1-0 defeat would take Bayer Leverkusen through to the final, but deny them the chance of an unprecedented unbeaten season.

They've had the bulk of the chances here, but not good chances really.

Tom: Simon (20:04) - maybe you should let a team in a European semi-final enjoy it without jumping on the Leverkusen bandwagon.

Tom: I’m only here for the Leverkusen game.

    Ayoub El Kaabi

Ayoub El Kaabi scored a hat-trick in the first leg and may well have taken the tie out of Aston Villa's reach.

Daniel Podence, on loan from Wolves, has the ball inside the Villa penalty area, he releases the overlapping Quini and his low cross finds El Kaabi, away from his marker, and he just about puts enough pace on the shot to prod it past Emiliano Martinez.

    A nightmare start for Villa.

Olympiakos 0-0 Aston Villa (agg: 4-2)

Villa with good possession 30 yards from the Olympiakos goal, but the hosts have eight red and white shirts as well as the goalkeeper behind the ball, tight and narrow and Villa are crowded out and run out of ideas.

  10. 'Great start by Roma'published at 20:07 British Summer Time 9 May

Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 Roma (Agg: 2-0)

    Robbie Savage
    Ex-Wales midfielder on TNT Sports

Brave goalkeeping but the diagonal cross-field ball was fantastic and Lukaku's touch was a little heavy. Brilliant goalkeeping from Kovar.

    Great start for Roma.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 9 May

    Atalanta 0-0 Marseille (agg: 1-1)

Big chance for Atalanta to take the lead in this tie. Charles de Ketelaere goes round the keeper and hits the outside of the post.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

Olympiakos 0-0 Aston Villa (agg: 4-2)

Loud boos any time a Villa man has possession and the visitors win a corner on the right, but opt to go short and the combination of Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby make a mess of it.

But Villa come again, only for home defender David Carmo to do well and keep the ball away from a lurking Ollie Watkins.

Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 Roma (agg: 2-0)

Olympiakos 0-0 Aston Villa (agg: 4-2)

An early chance for Olympiakos's Chiquinho after Villa were caught out with a throw-in. But the home man opts to take it on his right foot when on the left side of the penalty area and it doesn't threaten the Villa goal, when the left-footed effort across goal was the better option.

  16. Postpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 9 May

    Atalanta 0-0 Marseille (agg: 1-1)

Atalanta keeper Juan Musso is quick off his line to stop Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reaching a long ball.

Olympiakos 0-0 Aston Villa (agg: 4-2)

Leon Bailey catches former Leicester man Vicente Iborra inside the opening minute, with a late, but not malicious challenge, but one that leaves both men limping.

And away we go in a pulsating atmosphere in Greece.

Can Villa turn this around and get into a European final for the first time since they won the European Cup in 1982?

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa are on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League next season through a top-four Premier League finish, and boss Unai Emery said their season could not be considered any less successful if they fail to reach the Conference League final, where Fiorentina await the winners.

"We have enjoyed getting here," he said. "To win a trophy in Europe is very difficult. To get here you have to be consistent, but if we don't win, the process is clear.

"Maybe we could be a favourite before the first leg, but they show us their power and how they want to be a contender and now they are favourite. I will prepare us to come back, but our process does not change.

"In the Premier League, we are having a fantastic season. We have to enjoy both competitions. We have to be proud of our work."
