Everton manager David Moyes on the new ownership: "It is different because they are in America at the moment and I'm here so the conversations have been video calls. You can never tell how a manager is going to do but managers can not tell how owners are going to go so it works both ways.

"But at the moment I've found the conversations good and I've found they want to get us back on track. We all know we need a bit of a sticking plaster at the moment and we have to try and make that work."

Everton manager David Moyes: "There's a lot of people in this room that have seen the last few years at Everton and it has been a difficult time. I admire a lot of them for seeing it through a difficult period.

"A lot of Evertonians should be happy at the moment, it looks like they are going in the right direction. I was really privileged to work under some great people here who have really helped me and people whose intentions were to build a better Everton and I think they have done that.

"We did that at a period that was not easy and I think this period is not going to be easy but the new ownership has got big ideas, big hopes they can make a big difference to the football club."

Everton manager David Moyes: "As everybody knows, this is a different beast to many other clubs. Everton is completely different.

"A couple of weeks ago I thought there was no chance Everton would be in a relegation fight and I think they will be strong enough to stay away from it.

"We need everyone behind us, the players playing better and scoring more goals if we're going to make that happen."

We've ticked past 16:30 GMT and David Moyes has not yet arrived for his news conference.

Former manager Sean Dyche often used to arrive late - the only occasion I remember that he turned up early transpired to be the final time he faced the media.

The Return of Moyes : It is hypocritical complaining about Moyes leaving Everton for a new career opportunity at Utd, while applauding those players who came to Everton from elsewhere, for the same 'new career opportunities'. Give him a second chance. This is a good appointment.

Kevin, West Kirby: David Moyes back to Everton. Retrograde step or sensible appointment?

Hi, Kevin. There have been a lot of times in the past when Everton needed a new manager and David Moyes was linked when I always viewed it as a retrograde step, especially after his spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, where he did not distinguish himself.

This time, I can see the attraction to it from both sides.

Everton need a "safe hands" appointment after Sean Dyche's sacking with the team in trouble. David Moyes is vastly experienced, did a very fine job at West Ham United, and will be relishing the challenge at Everton.

I actually think what Moyes achieved at West Ham is nowhere near being fully appreciated and will only be so with time.

It is not an appointment to get the fans' pulses racing, in fact plenty of Everton fans are unimpressed, but excitement is not what is required at the moment.

Staying in the Premier League is paramount for new owners The Friedkin Group with a new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock on the way.

Is he a long-term solution? I remain to be convinced but he has a two-and-a-half-year contract and if he gets results then he will see that out.

It is a huge challenge for Moyes, so it will be fascinating to see how it all pans out.

No spaces in the car park, no chairs left to sit on in the media room.

Fair to say, there's widespread interest in David Moyes' second-coming at Everton, with the team languishing at the wrong end of the table.

David Moyes holds his first news conference as the returning Everton manager and it feels like he has come full circle with the club.

The Scot spent 11 years at Goodison Park before leaving for Manchester United in 2013, anointed as the "Chosen One" when replacing the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

He didn't last long at Old Trafford though, sacked after only 10 months in-charge in a campaign when the now infamous, external "give it Giggsy til the end of the season" rant was given by a United supporter.

Now the Toffees have turned to Moyes as their chosen one, handed the job until the end of the season and beyond, as he is expected to take the club on to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next term.

Moyes has been without a job since leaving West Ham last summer told BBC Sport less than two weeks ago: "I don't want to be at the bottom of the league and fighting relegation which I have had a few times, so we will see how things go."

    So what changed?

We'll find out when he faces the media this afternoon.
