Summary

  1. 'In these situations you have to be creative'published at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

West Ham v Fulham (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

On his attacking options in the absence of Niclas Fulkrug and Michael Antonio, Graham Potter said: "There’s certainly a logical rationale to do something [in this transfer window] but it’s not always as simple as that. I wouldn’t want to do something for the sake of it in this window which is very complicated.

"There are players coming back so my focus is on how to get the team working as well as possible.

"Sometimes in these situations you have to be creative, and look at your players' attributes.

"We've got options up front, in terms of Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Danny Ings, so let's see."

  2. Potter on Fullkrug, Summerville and Emersonpublished at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

West Ham v Fulham (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

Graham Potter started his press conference by giving an update on Niclas Fullkrug: "It is fair to say it is a significant one. It’s still early in terms of full diagnosis but it is still significant and it will be a number of weeks."

On Crysencio Summerville: "It's a minor one with him. He felt something after about 35 minutes, and finished the first half probably not at 100 per cent. Bit more precautionary. Airing towards the negative at the moment. It's touch and go, so let's see."

Emerson Palmieri "has made good progress and trained" and Konstantinos Mavropanos is available, but Jean-Clair Todibo remains sidelined.

  3. 'Max Aarons deserves to do very well'published at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Chelsea v Bournemouth (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola spoke about Max Aarons who is set to join Valencia: “The club have thought about the best for him, if he wasn’t playing the minutes he wanted here. The opportunity that has arrived for him is amazing, Valencia is a big club and I hope he does well there. His behaviour is very good, the other day knowing that it was almost a done agreement we asked him to play 45 minutes and he played very well and gave us everything - I hope he does very well because he deserves it.”

With the club keen to sign a striker, Iraola was asked if the club want to strengthen any other positions: “We have been in an uncomfortable position in the last month and a half - we are not recovering the injured players, the situation changes when in a few days we lose the two numbers 9 we have - it’s obvious we need a replacement especially with Enes (Unal) out for the season and Evanilson for a long period of time. My focus is on recovering the players that we have out because we know they can help us.”

  4. 'We are trying to sign a striker'published at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Chelsea v Bournemouth (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on transfers and the club's attempts to sign a new striker:

"I have no idea what’s going to happen, I know the club is working on it but I don’t know what’s going to happen in the market.”

“We are trying to sign a striker - this is clear, everyone in the club is trying to sign a striker. This week we lost Enes (Unal) and Evanilson. It’s not going to be one or two days and then a striker signs - they’re very valuable.

"I understand clubs don’t want to lose strikers half way through the season - we need a striker with the level to start and play Premier League games, it’s not going to be easy but everyone in the club is working on this."

Dan, Nottingham: I’m not sure "first team out the hat" solves this, as Dale suggested, as it is 50/50 as to whether the larger or smaller club gets to decide where the tie is played. Perhaps of the two teams drawn the lower-ranked team can choose home or away, opting for the home field advantage or a bigger payday.

  6. 'Arteta's decision-making clouded by the hot-hand fallacy'published at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

I'd argue that Mikel Arteta's decision-making has been clouded by the hot-hand fallacy, the belief that being successful previously is a predictor of future success.

For example, believing that Kai Havertz's turnaround last season could and would occur again this season.

That misplaced faith, which I think is a symptom of inexperience, not arrogance or stubbornness, has left the team ill-equipped to handle fluctuations in form.

Fundamentally, the hot-hand fallacy leads to the repetition of things that have worked in the past but may no longer be right for the present - this couldn't be more true of Arsenal in January.

We didn't need a Plan B last year, which is why we don't have one this year.

Now, our attention turns to Wednesday's North London Derby with a significant level of dread. Win, and Arsenal will at least stop the rot. But if Spurs leave the Emirates with three points, there will be absolutely no hiding place for Arteta.

  7. 'Cup defeats add to growing unease among Arsenal fans'published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Last week I said that January could make or break Arsenal's season. Off the back of two consecutive home losses, it looks depressingly like the latter. These results have underlined a frustrating trend of underwhelming cup performances under Mikel Arteta, and have significantly added to the growing unease among fans.

The fanbase is now at odds over where to lay the blame. This team does not look markedly different from last year, where the same personnel produced a record-breaking season. Fundamentally, Arteta isn't the one fluffing chances and missing penalties - it's more a story of individuals underdelivering compared to what we know they are capable of. The players are the same, the performances are not.

Critics of Arteta though, will point to his failure to strengthen Arsenal's attacking line in recent transfer windows. The vocal Arteta-out brigade are revising the previous seasons' successes as either luck, or a dramatic overachievement that actually just masked fundamental issues with Arsenal's squad.

    I have a different view.

The FA Cup replay issue is easily fixable. The team drawn out of the hat first should be able to pick to play home or away. That way, Tamworth could have chosen to play at Spurs if they wanted. More money for Tamworth, possibly easier game for Spurs. Everyone's happy.

Brentford v Man City (Tues, 19:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Pep Guardiola can be quite chatty and engaging in his media briefings.

On other occasions, he can start off slowly but then find a subject he engages with and opens up.

Today he began by not wanting to answer a question about Kyle Walker and continued in much the same vein throughout.

He didn't want to speak about who might replace Walker at right-back if the veteran England man does leave. He didn't want to talk about signings, including Abdukodir Khusanov, who City have agreed a fee for with the Uzbekistan international's club Lens.

And while he was happy to praise Thomas Frank, he repeated something he has previously said about the Dane in that he could manage at a higher level.

  12. West Ham and Everton dismissals 'not great'published at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Dave from Derby: Good morning Phil, what did you make of how West Ham and Everton handled dismissing their managers? West Ham United was very public and drawn out and Everton was just before a game and they didn't thank Sean Dyche despite the fact he keep them up twice even with a points deduction.

Not great, Dave, for differing reasons.

I thought it was pretty awful that Julen Lopetegui was taking training at West Ham United when everyone knew he was losing his job. For all the justified criticisms about his time at West Ham, I think it is credit to his professionalism that he went about his business as normal until his fate was sealed.

The criticism I would have of Everton’s dismissal of Dyche is that I felt he deserved a little bit more credit than a 75-word statement that did not even acknowledge his work in keeping the club in the Premier League over the last two seasons in difficult circumstances, with little money to spend and also in the face of points deductions for breaches of Profit And Sustainability rules.

Wins over Man City, Arsenal and a draw with Liverpool changes nothing, just papers over the cracks. Wait until they play a really top team and their flaws will be exposed. Man Utd are still getting relegated this season, mark my words.

  14. Defence and midfield the January priorities for Guardiolapublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Brentford v Man City (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on where the club need to strengthen:

"From where we were in the beginning of the season it is the back and the middle.

"There is a position up front we are more or less okay but at the back we have struggled all season."

  15. 'We have a lot of problems in the back fourpublished at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Brentford v Man City (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on reports City have agreed a fee with Lens for defender Abdukodir Khusanov:

"The club didn't announce anything. I don't know."

Other additions?: "I don't know. What I expect for the beginning of the season, the team we started with back.

"Rodri is impossible but the other ones I want back. If it would've happened I am not going to the transfer window this season. Absolutely not.

"We would not be in the position that we are but we struggle all the season. It's not just Rodri, we have a lot of problems in the back four.

"That is the reason why the club is thinking we might do this transfer."

  16. Guardiola cagey on transferspublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Brentford v Man City (Tues, 19:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

It is fair to say Manchester City Pep Guardiola is being tight-lipped on who could be signed this month.

When asked about potential incomings and interest in Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, he shook his head before giving a non-committal response, but he did say that defensive signings have been targeted throughout the season.

On Friday, our chief football news reporter Simon Stone stated that a deal for Khusanov had been agreed.

  17. 'The mood is better'published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Brentford v Man City (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on whether his side have turned a corner:

"We won three games. Before it was impossible to win one!

"Now we won three, and that helps us. But, the reality is we won against a team in the last game for the difference of the Premier League and League Two, the badges of both teams, and many reasons we should win.

"We have to wait to see if we are who we are. The mood is better. Tomorrow we have an enormously difficult game. With what happened in the last seasons it is always team who create a lot of problems. They have been a long long time with Thomas [Frank].

"They are a fantastic team but at the same time we know what we are playing for."

  18. 'No news' on Walkerpublished at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Brentford v Man City (Tue, 19:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on captain Kyle Walker, who has told him he wants to leave the club:

"No news. I'm not going to add anything, no more news. I only have Brentford in my mind."

Will he be in the squad tomorrow? "We will decide this afternoon after training."

  19. AC Milan's signing problempublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

There have been a lot of headlines linking AC Milan with both Marcus Rashford and Kyle Walker recently.

They are certainly in the market for a striker and Walker was linked with them on Saturday evening, virtually as soon as Pep Guardiola had confirmed Walker had asked to 'explore his options' to move away from the club.

But AC Milan have already signed their permitted two non-EU players this season in Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal, who joined from Red Bull Salzburg and Tottenham in the summer.

Italian clubs are allowed a third 'non-EU player' if they come from the United Kingdom or Albania.

Evidently Rashford and Walker both fulfil that criteria. AC Milan could sign one, not both.

    Manchester City

Kyle Walker talks to Pep GuardiolaImage source, Getty Images

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is due to speak to the media shortly ahead of Tuesday's trip to Brentford.

The Spaniard is likely to discuss the future of captain Kyle Walker. Following Saturday's 8-0 win over Salford City in the FA Cup, Guardiola said that Walker was looking to leave the club and was not playing because of that.

Guardiola is also likely to be asked about the club's interest in signing Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, Egypt forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt and Palmeiras' teenage defender Vitor Reis.

We will bring you the updates from Guardiola shortly.
