Lifelong Man U fan here. I could have lived with us losing. It was just so good to see you us giving it everything, playing as a team again. But we won and I'll happily take that!

  2. Losing captain Walker would be 'massive' - Akepublished at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Manchester City's Nathan Ake says losing captain Kyle Walker would affect the team "massively".

City boss Pep Guardiola said the 34-year-old England international has asked to leave the club following Saturday's 8-0 FA Cup third round win over Salford City and he has been linked with both Milan clubs in today's gossip column.

Walker still has 18 months left on his contract but when asked if the full-back would be granted his wish if he said he wanted to leave, Guardiola said: "Of course".

"He's massive for us, been massive for us over the years," fellow defender Ake said on the news. "He is a big character in the squad. He deserves a lot of praise for all the years he's been a top player for this club. 100% [a club legend]."

City have agreed a £33.6m deal with French club Lens for Uzbekistan international defender Abdukodir Khusanov and are in negotiations with Brazilian side Palmeiras for teenage defender Vitor Reis. City are also interested in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.

"Any incomings, the club know what they're doing," said Ake. "They're trying to help the team and trying to get us back to where we belong."

Italian giants AC Milan are emerging as a potential destination for Manchester City star Kyle Walker but there are still a few issues to resolve.

City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed on Saturday that Walker had asked if he could "explore his options" to leave the club and move abroad.

City are adamant no concrete offer has been put to them yet, but sources close to the player feel AC Milan, currently eighth in Serie A, is a viable option.

However, AC Milan are currently looking at a loan deal while Walker, who still has 18 months remaining on his City contract, wants a permanent move.

There has been reported interest in the Saudi Pro-League but Walker prefers to stay in Europe.

“If he wants to explore, now it is a question of the market,” said Guardiola. “He has to decide, not me.

“Kyle is an incredible player, with an incredible physicality. He is a top-class player. When he has focus he is unstoppable as a right-back. I never see a player with this physical condition in my career. He is fit. He can play one, two, three, four years as a professional.”

Guardiola has also said he doesn’t want to pick players whose mind is elsewhere, so presumably the 34-year-old will not be in contention for City’s Premier League trip to Brentford on Tuesday.

The City boss is due to speak to the media ahead of that game at 12:30 GMT today.

Robert Peston on X, external: For Arsenal to lose two cup games at home, in such quick succession, is devastating. The heart has gone out of this team. The absence of Saka is not any kind of sufficient explanation or justification. I am a great believer that managers need to be given time and consistent support. But I cannot see any kind of strategy from Arteta and his colleagues that would transform us into trophy winners from our current status as honourable runners-up.

I think Arsenal have no choice but to part ways with Arteta. He’s whiny and one-dimensional, and Arsenal have no chance of winning any silverware this year...and it’s only January.

  9. No FA Cup replays - agree or disagree?published at 08:01 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire, external estimated that Tamworth could have made around £850,000 from a replay at Tottenham, by gate receipts alone.

However, the non-league side needed penalties just to get through their second-round tie against Burton Albion - so is it a case of swings and roundabouts?

  10. 'Bring back replays'published at 07:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

    606 phone-in
    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Premier League winner Chris Sutton said on 606 that he believed the decision to scrap replays had risked damaging the "fairy tale" of the FA Cup.

While co-presenter Robbie Savage said: "We understood from the start of the season that there would be no replays, but with the lucrative nature of a replay - who does it benefit [there being] no replays? It benefits the bigger clubs, doesn't it? Of course it does.

"The magic of the FA Cup has been all about replays and giant-killing. Replays have to be there for the smaller clubs. It's ridiculous really.

"Bring back replays. Today has been significant. Tamworth could have earned about £1m playing a replay [against Tottenham]."

  11. No FA Cup replays - 606published at 07:46 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

Thank you for getting in touch on the subject of replays, Simon and Jim.

This is a subject that was tackled on Sunday's episode of 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Co-presenters Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage responded to the following two questions:

    • Exeter and Plymouth have both pulled Premier League teams at home. Imagine how good it would be for the competition and the Devon football community if they both earned a replay?
    • Being involved in non-league football, how would you feel in Tamworth's position being denied a big replay and a payday? Has the fairy tale of the cup been lost?

A great win for Exeter City but the FA are ruining the cup. Replays are brilliant for smaller clubs and potentially, like with Exeter, a lifeline in times of financial difficulty. Semi-finals at Wembley also take away from the final. There's a reason that the FA Cup is one of the oldest cup competitions in the world...the original format works.

Tamworth would have had a big-money game at Spurs that could have secured their immediate future had there still been replays. As a Man U fan, I'm a little relieved, though.
