  7. Pep's no assistant refereepublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    Man City 1-1 Club Brugge

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at the Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola is a brilliant manager but he would be hopeless as an assistant referee.

He was simulating a flag being raised just then but there was no sturdiness in his movement and his arm was waving all over the place.

Surely he knows you have to stand straight, put your flag in the air and then lower it slowly.

The referee booked him. I think it was for being a bad assistant referee. Either than or he shouldn't be telling the officials how to do their jobs.

  8. Brest have goal ruled outpublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

Can you believe it? Brest thought they had equalised against Real Madrid as Ludovic Ajorque toe pokes the ball through Aurelien Tchouameni's legs but the offside flag is straight up after some wild celebrations.

Have to grudgingly admit that UEFA have got the Champions League better - instead of dead rubbers, nail biters and games of consequence in every direction you turn.

I don’t understand why Kalvin Phillips has been sent out on loan - did City just buy him for a laugh? Ok he’s struggled for City in that first season, but their midfield is crying out for someone who can play that water carrier role.

  16. Postpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    Man City 1-1 Club Brugge

It's breathless stuff at the Etihad.

Don't forget, Manchester City are still going out as things stand. A draw is not enough, they must win to book a play-off place.

  18. Poor from Bruggepublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    Man City 1-1 Club Brugge

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at the Etihad Stadium

That was really poor from Club Brugge.

Their midfield basically opened up and allowed Mateo Kovacic a straight run down the middle and all the time in the world to send his shot into the bottom corner.

Having worked so hard, they just switched off.

  19. Postpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    Man City 1-1 Club Brugge

Oh my goodness. Panic stations in the Manchester City defence as Christos Tzolis breaks forward and fends off Josko Gvardiol and it looks like he will be able to get a shot away.

Eventually, it's pulled back for offside but Pep Guardiola goes into the book for his protests. It looks like the assistant referee put his flag up but play was allowed to continue.

  20. 'Kovacic took matters into his own hands'published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    Man City 1-1 Club Brugge

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is exactly what Man City needed, someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Mateo Kovacic took matters into his own hands. He dribbled through the heart of Club Brugge, the space opened up and he tucked it into the corner.
