It's a big week for Cardiff in their bid for Championship survival.

After tonight's rearranged match against Watford, they host arch rivals Swansea City on Saturday.

Two positive results could do wonders for the Bluebirds' brittle confidence, which was at least lifted a little with last Thursday's FA Cup win at Sheffield United.

To pick up some points this week, though, Cardiff are going to need to improve their home form.

Cardiff are second from bottom in the Championship having struggled on their own patch this season, aside from a run of four straight home wins in October and early November.

Only Hull City have claimed fewer home points than Cardiff this season.

"We have had some disappointing performances [at home]," said Cardiff manager Omer Riza.

"I think the pressure of the [league] position, the fans at times - I think the players feel it a little bit.

"Hopefully, the fans will keep getting behind the boys and we can all try to do it together."

If new Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic has any nerves he doesn't appear to be showing them.

He has cut a relaxed figure this evening ahead of his first game in charge of the Pilgrims - and his first in English football.

The Austrian has impressed fans with his now viral first speech to the players and handled his first press conference on Monday very well.

But he will be judged by what happens on the pitch as he aims to draw Argyle out of the Championship relegation places.

Whatever happens tonight Plymouth will still be bottom of the Championship (barring an unlikely win of more than 14 goals...), but tonight's performance will set the tone for the weeks and months to come.

It is a crucial period as Argyle play five homes games in their next six - including their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool.

Cardiff make two changes from their last league game, with Perry Ng coming in along with Chris Willock. Once again the Bluebirds are playing without a recognised striker. Manolis Siopis is absent from the matchday squad.

For Watford, Moussa Sissoko is back in the side and the fit-again Tom Dele-Bashiru, who has been out since October, is on the bench.

  4. Four changes for Argyle; only one for Oxfordpublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Argyle new boy Miron Muslic makes four changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Stoke City in their last Championship fixture 10 days ago.

Out go goalkeeper Conor Hazard, who does not even make the bench, Kornel Szucs, Matty Sorinola and Michael Obafemi.

In step Daniel Grimshaw, Victor Palsson and January signings Tymo Puchacz and Michael Baidoo, who both make their home debuts. Morgan Whittaker starts despite interest in his services from Burnley and Hull City.

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett makes one alteration to the side that drew with Preston North End at Deepdale.

Out goes the suspended Tyler Goodrham and the 21-year-old is replaced by Przemyslaw Placheta.

Watford have suffered three Championship defeats in a row and slipped out of the play-off places, so will be looking to get their promotion challenge back on track against struggling Cardiff City this evening.

The Hornets’ away form has been a problem - they have taken a disappointing total of only eight points from their 12 matches on the road this season.

And now their home form, which had been excellent, has deserted them. Two of their recent three successive losses were at home, with one coming against tonight’s opponents.

Tom Cleverley’s side, ninth in the Championship, head to south Wales to face a Cardiff team who are in desperate need of points at the other end of the table.

The Bluebirds are one off the bottom and their recent 2-1 victory at Watford is their only win in their past 12 league matches - a run which has included six defeats.

There have been some signs of encouragement for boss Omer Riza, with back-to-back draws, against Coventry City and promotion-chasing Middlesbrough. But as Watford have struggled away, City have had problems at home, taking a total of one point from their past five games on their own patch.

This is a vital week for Cardiff, who face two key home fixtures in their battle to avoid the drop. On Saturday they will 'host' arch-rivals Swansea City. A win tonight would be a massive boost for them ahead of that grudge match.

Plymouth Argyle host Oxford United in a huge fixture at the bottom of the Championship following their exceptional 1-0 victory over Premier League side Brentford in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Tonight signals the beginning of Miron Muslic’s tenure in charge of the Pilgrims after first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards oversaw a three-game unbeaten run following Wayne Rooney’s dismissal on New Year's Eve.

Argyle have won four of their past five league games against Oxford United, though that sole defeat did come in the reverse fixture merely 16 days ago at the Kassam Stadium, which turned out to be Rooney’s last in charge of the Greens.

Despite United’s past two visits to Plymouth ending in 1-0 defeats, one should expect goals tonight, as only Carrow Road and Hillsborough have seen more Championship goals than Home Park this season.

Since Gary Rowett’s first official game in charge of Oxford on Boxing Day, no other Championship side has picked up more points in the league, with the U’s taking 10 points from an available 12.

However, the U's did taste defeat at Argyle’s most bitter rivals Exeter City three days ago in the FA Cup, and they will be missing star winger Tyler Goodrham for tonight’s match after the 21-year-old was sent off for violent conduct late on at St James Park.

A win for bottom side Plymouth in their first match under new head coach Miron Muslic would take them level with at least two of the teams above them - three if second-from-bottom Cardiff lose to Watford. As for Oxford, who were widely tipped to struggle following last year's promotion, a win would take them eight points clear of the relegation zone.
