There's rush to the Notts box but George Abbott is there to block the pass.

The Notts midfielder is winded but it was worth the exertion.

CONTROVERSY!

Charlie Whitaker charges into the box and Crewe keeper Filip Marschall makes contact to see the forward tumble to the ground.

The crowd rise thinking it's a penalty but no, the referee judges it as simulation and it's Whitaker who receives the card.

That's sure to divide opinion.

McGoldrick takes but the steadfast Mickey Demetriou blocks to keep the box clear.

Talk about epitomising the first half, we've had a foul throw.

You don't usually see those very often - maybe in under-7s football - but we have one in League Two today.

I think the referee should blow the half-time whistle now and get the players together to say this is not good enough.

Crewe captain Mickey Demetriou finds himself clattered in the box by an emerging Notts County man while battling for a corner.

Demetriou seems unbothered.

As does the rest of his team, actually, but the away fans watching might have felt they could have gained something from that.

This game is being played heavily in the midfield, plenty of exchanges but not much offered in terms of breaking out to the goal mouth.

Notts County are down Alassana Jatta today, who is currently with Gambia national team.

But it's hard to see how League Two's joint highest scorer would get many opportunities even if he was present.

Crewe's Kane Hemmings (number 15) is certainly struggling, spending most of time lingering just beyond the halfway line.

Both sets of shirts have been guilty of giving the ball away too much.

Neither keeper has had much to do other than catch a cross or punch a cross.

Crewe's Kane Hemmings has been quiet in these early stages but finally gets a chance to shine when a long forward ball finds him up front.

He's sandwiched between a Notts keeper and defender and needs to pass out before getting back into position.

He doesn't find the ball back at his feet but the visitors do get themselves a throw-in.
