There is a slightly subdued feel to the pre-match proceedings in Coventry tonight.

Maybe it's me but you just sense, from the lack of hubbub and all the shaking heads, that the Sky Blues fans are still getting over Sunday's shambolic finale.

One thing is guaranteed through. Being on the wrong end of such a devastating defeat will be long forgotten about in Mark Robins' head.

And the Sky Blues boss will have been busy since Sunday transmitting positive energy into his players - on how to beat Hull City.

There is still the option of another Wembley trip this season. And a home win tonight would help a lot and erase all the post FA Cup semi-final negativity.

The form book is on Hull’s side as they prepare to head to the West Midlands this evening.

The Sky Blues have failed win any of their past four games against Hull, drawing the past two 1-1, while the Tigers are unbeaten in five visits to Coventry, claiming 11 points and keeping clean sheets in all three wins.

Coventry go into the game on the back of two straight defeats, and three in their last four, while Hull have earned 17 points from their last eight midweek Championship matches, losing only once, and winning their last four midweek away games on the spin.

One player Liam Rosenior’s men will need to keep an eye on is Ellis Simms who has scored five goals across his past three home appearances – the best run since Viktor Gyokeres in December 2022.

They say time is the greatest healer.

Well, three days just doesn’t seem very long for Coventry’s players and staff to begin to get over their Wembley heartbreak.

For 25 glorious seconds around 18:10 BST on Sunday evening, Sky Blues players and fans celebrated reaching the FA Cup Final. They had performed one of the greatest comebacks in the long history of the world’s oldest domestic cup competition to beat mighty Manchester United 4-3 in the final minute of extra-time.

Until...

The rest is history.

Mark Robins gave his squad Monday off but they were back in yesterday as they seek to bounce back tonight as they face Hull in a game he admits they must win.

Having lost last season’s play-off final (Wembley penalties again) Coventry realistically need to win their final four games to stand a chance of securing a Wembley date in May after all.

Would you look at this... this almost feels like the first play-off match of the EFL season. Shall we call it a play-off quarter-final?

Should Coventry lose tonight they will be nine points adrift of West Brom and Norwich, needing to win their final three games and hope both of those sides and also Hull lose their final two games.

If Coventry were to win then Hull would be in that same position, needing to win their final two matches and hope neither Norwich nor West Brom pick up a point, and that Coventry fail to win their final three fixtures too.

A lot has to happen for either of these sides to make the play-offs, but whichever path they take to get there, it will need to start with a win here tonight.
