Scottish football is in freefall. Both Celtic and Rangers have the worst teams for decades and decades. You wonder how we can lift the coefficient going by what we are seeing season after season. We are fast becoming the also-rans and the laughter of European football.

    Definitely brighter from Rangers.

The home side have to be careful here.

Roma are so far on top that this game could get away from Rangers very quickly if they can't get some kind of foothold in the match.

The Italians are streets ahead so far. The good thing for Rangers is there's just a goal in it, as things stand.

Rangers looking fragile at another set-piece.

It's a good chance. He's got to put it into that far corner, but the defender knocks him off balance.

    Excellent defending.

I did say that I was really concerned about the lack of height in this Rangers team, but that was a great flick from the Roma skipper at the front post.

It's been all Roma and there's little surprise that the Italians have an early lead.

That has sucked all the atmosphere right out of Ibrox.

A poorly defended corner and a chance Matias Soule was never going to miss.

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl, in his mid 30s, is staking a claim for the new generation of young coaches.

His last two opponents in the rival technical area, very much 'old school'.

Martin O'Neill, 73, at Hampden at the weekend in the League Cup defeat to Celtic

And 67-year-old Europa League winner with Atalanta in 2024, Gian Piero Gasperini, this evening.
