Cristhian Mosquera was Valencia's most reliable man last season, playing over 3,300 minutes in La Liga alone - 300 more minutes than the next teammate who is now Liverpool's back-up goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Spaniard had a tackle success rate of 77.5% which contributed to Valencia topping La Liga's team tackle charts (yep, they do measure that), ahead of Sevilla and Real Madrid respectively.

That said, despite standing at nearly 6ft 2, the Spaniard lost over half of his aerial duels and had four errors leading to shots at goal.

Arsenal have secured the signing of Mosquera and have added what they feel is a young defender with quality to add options to their backline.

He has played senior football for two seasons and in 2024-25, he not only played the most minutes of anyone in the Valencia squad, but also the second-most of any outfield player in the whole of La Liga.

That type of availability is important to Arsenal manager Arteta who will be hopeful to avoid the injuries which caused so many issues for him last season.

Alongside the availability, Mosquera can play across every position in defence, adding versatility to a strong Arsenal squad.

The 21-year-old may take time to adapt to the league and country but with a large contingent of Spanish speakers at Arsenal, the process of settling in should be a lot easier.

I get that I'm part of the problem, being a journalist on the BBC's transfer live page and all that...

...but a big part of me is sad that I'll probably never experience my team signing a player out of nowhere again.

    Those were the days.

Manager Mikel Arteta has described Cristhian Mosquera as an 'exciting talent' with 'enormous potential' as Arsenal continue to strengthen their squad this summer.

"We're delighted to welcome Cristhian to Arsenal. As a 21-year-old defender, Cristhian has already performed consistently well with significant experience in La Liga," Arteta said.

"He is an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides. He is a young player with exciting talent and enormous potential, who will fit well into our squad as we continue to prepare for next season.

"Cristhian adds good quality to our squad, and we look forward to working with him and making him feel at home with us.“From all of us, we welcome Cristhian and his family to the club.”

I dont think buying Isak is a very good idea for Liverpool tbh, he is too expensive and seems to have injury problems too often. LFC should concentrate now on more defensive players.

With all this attacking options Liverpool are making, it just makes me think that Salah will be sold within the next 2 transfer windows as this would make sense, financially as well as age.

Yesterday, Cristhian Mosquera joined Arsenal from Valencia on a five-year contract for an initial fee in the region of 15m euros (£13m).

The 21-year-old can play at both centre-back and right-back and will fill the gap in the squad left by the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract earlier this month.

“It means a lot to me. There’s been a lot of hard work behind all of this," Mosquera told Arsenal's club website.

"I couldn't let it pass me by. I'm joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of the place.

"My career has moved faster than I expected and I've had to mature fast. Coming here is a chance to keep learning and improving."

Might be asking for a torrent of down votes here but I'm not entirely convinced you get the best of Salah and Isak if they're in the same line-up. Salah excels when playing with link-up forwards like Firmino (or Ekitike even..). Signing Isak doesn't guarantee them the league IMO.

I don't understand those saying that adding Isak to the squad would leave Liverpool bloated/unbalanced. Darwin Nunez is on his way out and Hugo Ekitike will obviously get a lot of time off the bench, in Europe and in cup competitions.

I agree that too many signings can destabilise a squad, but if Diaz goes then Liverpool will need a replacement and a forward line of Ekitke, Isak and Salah would look awesome. There are some really exciting forgotten youngsters in the squad as well (especially Harvey Elliott).

The Express also lead with the Isak story and say Liverpool are 'on alert' as the striker tells the club he wants to explore a move elsewhere.

Unsurprisingly one of the stories dominating the back pages this morning is the future of Alexander Isak.

The Star have gone with the headline 'Away The Lad' and say the striker has opened the door to a 'sensational' British record transfer to Liverpool after informing Newcastle he wants to explore a move away from St James' Park.

Fair enough, Dan. (Also, it's unlikely. Man Utd probably can't afford him).

You've got me thinking though, what's the funniest thing that could happen in this transfer window?

I'd go with Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Liverpool and the ex-Evertonian then scoring so many he ends up outperforming Salah, Ekitike and potentially Isak.
