Chelsea have communicated their satisfaction with striker options Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson, despite the sudden availability of Newcastle's Alexander Isak.

The Sweden striker is exploring a move away from St James's Park amid interest from Liverpool.

Chelsea previously explored the chance of signing the striker in a PSR swap last summer but are not currently expecting to rekindle their interest.

They remain open to signing a different profile of attacker amid talks to sign RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons.

Hi Joe. For me, a squad is bloated, or a club has overrecruited, when the squad starts to lose cohesion and harmony. Anything between 3 and 6 new signings to increase depth/quality is usually fine, but more than that unsettles the culture and identity of the squad.

  5. Isak wants to explore move away from Newcastlepublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 25 July

    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Last night we reported Alexander Isak wants to explore his options for a move away from Newcastle this summer after missing the pre-season tour of Asia.

Newcastle have selected a 30-man squad but said the Sweden striker "misses out with a minor thigh injury".

It is understood some of Europe's top clubs have been aware Isak has been looking to take the next step in his career.

A source has told BBC Sport that Liverpool are still interested in signing the 25-year-old, despite signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike for an initial £69m.

On Saturday, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said Isak would "absolutely" be part of the squad for the games in Singapore and South Korea.

BBC Sport has contacted Newcastle for comment.

Pleased but nervous Liverpool fan. The purchases have been amazing upgrades on existing players. Trouble is, will they all gel quickly enough to be better than last season’s team?

Thanks Cody, first messager of the day. How much is too much when it comes to transfers?

What's a "good window"? And what's "panic overspending"?

When does a squad go from "great depth" to "bloated?"

I just don't think that buying Isak would link for liverpool. Wirtz, Ekitike, Frimpong and Kerkez all need to start next season and I think that adding Isak into the mix would add a bit of confusion.
