Villa get lucky, but they don't care. Ross Barkley has only just come on and gets the ball 25 yards out. He slips while shooting, the ball takes a huge deflection off home man Lukas Klostermann and it leaves Peter Gulacsi with no chance and it is in the net for a potential winner.

What's he thinking Pau Torres? He looks up, you can see Openda is there yet he still plays the ball straight to the centre-forward on the edge of the box.
It's a really poor, weak finish from Openda and from an excellent opportunity.

Openda should have scored. It was a terrible error from Torres and he has the whole goal to aim at.

Pau Torres with an awful cross-field ball 30 yards from his own goal and it is intercepted by Lois Openda. He should have done much better and he had enough time to take a touch, but instead opts to hit it first time and it is straight at the away keeper, Emiliano Martinez.
Luckily for Torres, Leipzig couldn't take advantage of the gift.

That's a real sucker punch for Aston Villa because that is an absolute smash and grab by RB Leipzig.
Unai Emery is on our screen, he's got his head in his hands.
It's a lovely finish by Baumgartner but Emi Martinez, he's had nothing to do in this game, he's made a real error of judgement reading the through-ball for the first goal - he's just done it again.
He's stood at the edge of his box, he could come out, deal with that but he doesn't. He allows Openda all the time in the world, floats the ball to the back post to Baumgartner and it's a fantastic volley.

RB Leipzig and Aston Villa have never previously faced each other in Europe. However, the German side have lost each of their last four matches against English sides in the UEFA Champions League, while conceding 14 goals in those four games.
This will be Aston Villa’s first away game against a German opponent in Europe since December 2008, in a 1-3 defeat to Hamburg in the UEFA Cup. Meanwhile, their last one in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League was in October 1981, in a 2-1 victory over Berliner FC Dynamo.
