It’s a case of as you were, at the top of League One, as third-placed Wrexham prepare for the first-ever visit of Stevenage to the Stok Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson’s men made it 15 home games unbeaten last Thursday despite being pegged back in a 1-1 draw against Birmingham.

It left the Red Dragons five points adrift of the Blues, who have played two games fewer, but they’ll be looking to make it 13 league wins at home tonight against a Boro side who sit 15th, but won their only previous league meeting against Wrexham in the reverse fixture in October.

Alex Revell’s side have a good record against promoted sides, winning their past three, but are winless in five games on the road in midweek dating back nearly 18 months.

When Mr Wycombe upped sticks and swapped a League One promotion push for a Championship relegation scrap there were frowns from many Chairboys' fans - would the wheels come off their season?

Now, we may only be two games into the post-Matt Bloomfield era but a win and a draw would suggest it's business as usual for the division's unlikely promotion challengers.

Boyhood Wycombe fan Sam Grace is holding the fort pending a permanent appointment, and with League One's top scorers at his disposal it might just be a case of rolling them out and letting them go.

Back-to-back defeats have got the Barnsley natives restless although considering those losses came after a four-game winning streak there might be plenty of opposition fans wondering what the issue is.

But therein lies the problem for the Tykes - too inconsistent for an automatic promotion push but consistent enough to hang around the play-offs - victory at Adams Park tonight might keep some of the dissenting voices quiet for now.

Morecambe dropped to the foot of the League Two table at the weekend and are six points adrift of safety as they visit in-form Bradford City tonight.

The Shrimps also have more financial issues to concern themselves with.

Carlisle United's win at Fleetwood cut down the gap between them and 22nd-placed Tranmere Rovers to five points with the Cumbrians visiting Notts County.

Tranmere take a run of only two wins from 12 league games into their trip to a resurgent Swindon Town.

Newport County have also been pulled into trouble thanks to a five-match losing streak and they head to Salford City.

Accrington Stanley's three wins from four has given them some breathing space as they face Cheltenham Town.

Walsall's battering at Bradford City at the weekend did very little damage to their standing at the top of League Two, with Crewe Alexandra beaten by Accrington Stanley.

The Saddlers are at Fleetwood tonight, while second-placed Crewe have a tasty-looking encounter at home to fifth-placed AFC Wimbledon.

With third-placed Doncaster Rovers not in action tonight, Wimbledon could get themselves into the top three, as could one of Notts County, who host Carlisle, and Bradford, who are at home to Morecambe.

Victory for Salford City over Newport County could move them back into the play-off spots.

There was a bit of movement at the bottom of League One at the weekend.

Burton Albion are six points from safety and go for a third successive win when they host Reading tonight.

Shrewsbury Town are back at the bottom and they are at Stockport.

Crawley Town's seven-match winless streak has them one point above the Shrews as they visit a Mansfield Town side who lost at Cambridge United on Saturday.

The U's are half a dozen points short of fifth-from-bottom Northampton Town as they head to Rotherham United, with the Cobblers at Bolton.

Peterborough United are eight games without a win going into their home match with Wigan Athletic.

  6. Blues on course for promotion?published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Top spot is very much in Birmingham City's hands - two points clear and with two games in hand, they take on a Huddersfield Town side in the later kick-off in need of a win to get back into the automatic promotion picture.

Wycombe Wanderers have brushed off the loss of boss Matt Bloomfield with a win and a draw under interim manager Sam Grace to take into their game at home to Barnsley, who are just about hanging on to sixth place.

Wrexham remain unbeaten at home and will fancy their chances of maintaining that record against Stevenage tonight.

Stockport County are fifth and take a two-match winning run into a home meeting with Shrewsbury Town.

And keep an eye on Leyton Orient in seventh place - the O's are 10 games unbeaten, including eight wins, and go to Exeter City.

Time and football waits for no one as game after game throws up more twists and turns than even Lieutenant Columbo can handle.

None of the top four in League One and League Two won on Saturday to give the chasing pack hope.

At the bottom of the respective divisions, Burton and Carlisle both won to give their fans some optimism.

And just one more thing: the sides at the top of League One and League Two on this day last season went on to win the title.

    Let's get going shall we?
