Man Utd are down to their bare bones - the bench will tell you that. They should have been taking a lead into this game - the farcical penalty award has not been called out, which tells you the state of game at the moment. Utd should win, but it's certainly not a given.

Man Utd v Real Sociedad (20:00 GMT, 1-1 agg)

    Rene Meulensteen
Former Manchester United coach on BBC Radio 5 Live

    On Sir Jim Ratcliffe's interview...

The word that came to me was unconvincing.

To the point of singling out players that's not done. You do that in-house.

You need to think, you're talking about people. You might destroy people's future careers. You don't throw that in the open where everyone can have a go and attack those things.

It was not the right thing to do. You damage the trust and that's the biggest thing which is between players, coaches and the club.

  3. Onana, Hojlund and Casemiro have something to prove to Sir Jim Ratcliffepublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Man Utd v Real Sociedad (Agg: 1-1. 20:00GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro were all name-checked by minority Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe when he spoke on Monday about the outstanding transfer fees that needed to be paid in the summer.

He followed that up by admitting some of United's players were not good enough and others were overpaid.

Yesterday, head coach Ruben Amorim singled Casemiro out as someone who can play much better than he has been.

The Brazilian is United's highest earner at around £375,000-a-week.

I would imagine they will be pretty determined tonight. Amorim must think so.

Who on earth has predicted that Man Utd are favourites for the Europa League? It must be their form this season that's supported that - oh wait!

This game is so much more than progressing to the next round.

For whatever reason Man Utd don't progress, that will completely deflate everyone as there's no other trophies to play for.

  6. 'Special night for the club'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to TNT Sports: "Good to get [Cristian] Romero and Micky [Van de Ven] back, centre back paring. Sonny [Heung-min] and [James] Madders, we looked after them at the weekend and they're ready to go tonight.

"The reason they're in the leadership group, they're experienced guys, they're there for the big occasion and tonight is a big occasion, so great to have them all out there.

"It's exciting, it's a big European night. We know what we need to do. Go out there and play our football and win the game and try and progress to the next round.

"Here at home we know, with the crowd behind us, we can get some energy going early and that's what we intend to do.

"Hopefully, they're excited, full of voice and it's a special night for the club."

    Glenn Hoddle

Those two [Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero] are a shoo-in, when they're fit.

Romero's tight, he likes to be aggressive and Van de Ven can be aggressive.

When Romero is at his best he's a top, top defender. When he's at his worst he's dreadful. You don't know what you're going to get.

It is a big plus having Van de Ven back tonight.

Full strength Spurs team tonight apart from Kulusevski, so no excuses for Ange. Got to be dominant, confident and on the front foot from minute one.

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is certain his side "are better than Rangers" despite going into tonight's Europa League second leg at Ibrox with a two-goal deficit.

Mourinho is adamant Barry Ferguson's side earned the advantage from the first game in Istanbul only because of his team's numerous mistakes.

With Manchester United 14th in the Premier League, positive news has been hard to come across for United fans.

However, here's what the 'New Old Trafford' could possibly look like.

    In summary:

    • Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the new ground "will be the world's greatest football stadium".
    • The head of the architecture firm overseeing the plans - Lord Norman Foster - said the stadium will be "the beating heart of a new sustainable district".
    • But fan groups were torn, with Manchester United Supporters Trust stating it will show "caution" while questions are answered and the 1958 fan group stating the new design was a "soulless corporate structure, more akin to a modern entertainment venue than a football cathedral".

Conference League favourites Chelsea took control of their last-16 tie against Copenhagen with a first-leg win in Denmark.

After failing to register a first-half shot on target, Enzo Maresca's side took the lead within a minute of the restart.

Marc Cucurella, on for the injured Malo Gusto, ran down the left and pulled the ball back with captain Reece James scoring with a fine low strike from 30 yards out.

Copenhagen almost equalised a few minutes later but Viktor Claesson's angled strike bounced off the inside of the post and back into the hands of grateful Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

But Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 65th minute.

Cucurella was again involved as he won the ball close to the left touchline and Christopher Nkunku released Tyrique George whose cut-back was side-footed into the net by substitute Enzo Fernandez.

Copenhagen did manage to get a goal back when Gabriel Pereira produced a powerful header to convert Marcos Lopez's deep free-kick, although Chelsea are still in a strong position to move into the quarter-finals.

The overall winners will play either Norwegian side Molde or Legia Warsaw from Poland in the last eight.

  16. Work to do for Spurspublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar (20:00 GMT, 0-1 agg)

Lucas Bergvall's own goal led to a flat Tottenham losing the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie at AZ Alkmaar.

Ange Postecoglou's side only had one late shot on target - and only two inside AZ's box all night.

The difference ended up inadvertently being teenager Bergvall, who shinned an attempted clearance from Troy Parrott's cross into his own net.

Spurs needed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to come up with three big saves to keep them firmly in the tie - including to deny former Spurs striker Parrott.

But Tottenham will have to do without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur in tonight's home leg after his third booking of the season.

The visitors created little of note in a muted display. Substitute Wilson Odobert's cross-shot was parried away by AZ keeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro and he headed over the bar right at the end.

To make Spurs' night even worse, striker Dominic Solanke - making his return after seven weeks out with a knee injury - had to be replaced 20 minutes after coming on and hobbled off the pitch.

  17. Ayden Heaven picked ahead of Victor Lindelofpublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Man Utd v Real Sociedad (Agg: 1-1. 20:00GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Eighteen-year-old Ayden Heaven has been handed the first senior start of his career by Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.

It is a massive show of faith in the youngster, who only joined the club on 1 February.

The decision also underlines Victor Lindelof has no future at Old Trafford once his contract expires in the summer.

The Sweden captain joined United for £31m in 2015, when Jose Mourinho was the manager.

Remarkably, Amorim is his fifth boss, if you include Ralf Rangnick, but exclude Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Lindelof's former club Benfica are interested in signing him.
