Leeds have now scored 93 goals in the Championship this season

Premier League-bound Leeds United cruised to victory over play-off chasing Bristol City in front of a jubilant Elland Road.

Ao Tanaka and Willy Gnonto scored before Largie Ramazani added two late goals to complete a resounding win.

The Whites' promotion was confirmed last Monday and fans who turned up in the mood for a party were treated to a dominant display, with Tanaka putting them in front with a composed finish from Manor Solomon's deep cross.

Needing wins from their final two games to confirm the title and reach 100 points, Leeds did not let up and the fifth-placed visitors did well to stay in the game for as long as they did.

Leeds deservedly made it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half when Gnonto clipped a cool finish beyond the excellent Max O'Leary from Joel Piroe's defence-splitting pass.

And Ramazani netted twice after coming on, scoring with his first touch and then adding the fourth in the final seconds.

A win at all-but relegated Plymouth on Saturday will seal the title for Daniel Farke's men - and in this form it is hard to see past them doing that.

Bristol City can secure a play-off berth with victory over Preston on the final day of the regular season, but this was a hugely challenging night against a team only four places above them but 30 points better off.

Leeds, who have scored 26 goals more than the next highest scorers in the division, soaked up the richly deserved acclaim from their passionate support as the final whistle blew.

Whites fans were denied the chance to properly celebrate promotion to the Premier League after 16 years away in 2020, when they won the Championship title in front of empty stands because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and they were keen to make up for it as the players did a buoyant lap of honour.

Bigger challenges await them next season as they look to end the worrying run of promoted teams being relegated after one season in the top flight, but this has been a near-flawless campaign for the West Yorkshire side.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has led his side to 28 league wins this season

Within 48 hours of Leeds' promotion being confirmed, reports emerged that the club's owners were considering Farke's position.

This is his third promotion from the Championship, having twice led Norwich to the title in his time at Carrow Road.

However, he has found life in the top division far tougher, with one bottom-placed finish in his first season there before being sacked in November in his second campaign.

Whether the German will be given the chance to build into the Premier League with Leeds remains to be seen, but the fans and players certainly gave him a vote of confidence.

Fans chanted Farke's name on numerous occasions during the game, with the 48-year-old looking emotional as he acknowledged them in the final minutes, and he was roared back on to the field when he and the squad came back out after full-time to celebrate promotion.

Leeds set about their task with the intent of a team desperate for more points rather than one whose primary objective for the season is complete.

They were sparkling in possession and tireless out of it as they blew away a team that could potentially join them in the top flight next season.

A play-off place is still in Bristol City's hands

It always looked hard to make a case for the visitors, who have now won just one of their past 15 away matches in the league.

They nearly fell behind in the opening minutes when Jayden Bogle fluffed a close-range effort from Junior Firpo's low cross.

Leeds continued to push and the only surprise about their first goal was that it took 20 minutes to come.

Tanaka was left totally unmarked at the back post after the away side had half-cleared a corner that had also been played in to him and he made no mistake with his second effort.

Solomon nearly made it 2-0 moments later but keeper O'Leary made one of a number of good saves to thwart the Tottenham loanee.

The onslaught continued after the break, with O'Leary making a wonderful double save from Firpo and then Gnonto on the rebound before Bogle saw his shot hit the post.

Gnonto did eventually make it two with a great finish after a delightful through-ball from the Championship's top scorer Piroe.

City offered next to nothing in an attacking sense and didn't have a shot of any sort until after the 70th minute.

Ramazani added the deserved gloss to the scoreline with a close-range first-time finish and then whacked home a fourth in the final moment from Ilia Gruev's neat ball over the top.

City trudged off as Leeds started their promotion celebrations in earnest and they will now have to pick themselves up and reset for Saturday.

A win over lowly North End could send the Lancashire side down to League One and would see the Robins finish in a play-off spot for the first time since 2008.

Farke: 'Was pretty emotional'

'One of the best performances of the season' - Farke

Leeds boss Daniel Farke told BBC Radio Leeds:

"I'm a very proud manager. Obviously the week was not the easiest, because for the first three or four days we were celebrating.

"We got back to training on Friday and it's hard against a highly-motivated side. I was a bit worried before the game. I shouldn't have been because the lads showed their determination.

"We scored four fantastic goals and should have scored way more. It was one of the best performances of the whole season.

"We were so determined to end the season in style with a top performance and a top result.

"We wanted to put the icing on the cake and we want to win the league if we can. We want to extend the points tally and the amount of goals."

Bristol City boss Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Where do you start? You could sense how dangerous they'd be in their final home game and the atmosphere played a big part.

"In the first 20 or 25 minutes, we played the occasion rather than the game. We gave away a really soft goal from a set piece, which was probably the most frustrating thing.

"They're the best team in the division, for me; huge club, huge investment, top players. There's no shame in coming here and losing - it's more the manner in how you do it and we weren't at the level we can hit.

"We've spoken about it in the changing room. We have to hurt tonight and we can't just move on, because of the manner of the goals, but we have to wake up tomorrow, stick together and get ready for Saturday.

"The lads are tough, they have given absolutely everything and I know they will do on Saturday.

"If you'd have asked anyone associated with the club if they'd have taken going into the final home game, against Preston, with it in our hands, they'd have snapped your hands off.

"We've done terrifically well at home and the atmosphere has been electric."
