This is the first meeting between Everton and Luton in any competition since October 2007, with the Toffees winning a League Cup tie 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.
Luton are winless in their six league games against Everton (D3 L3), with this the first such meeting between the sides since a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in March 1992.
After their 3-1 win at Brentford, Everton are looking to pick up successive league wins for only the second time since the start of last season, previously doing so in September/October 2022 against West Ham and Southampton under Frank Lampard. Manager Sean Dyche last enjoyed back-to-back Premier League victories in February 2022 with Burnley (vs Brighton and Tottenham).
Luton are yet to win in the Premier League in five games (D1 L4); in their Football League history, only in 1959-60 (7 games), 1971-72 (7 games) and 1974-75 (9 games) have they ever failed to win their opening six or more matches of a campaign.
Everton have lost their first three home Premier League games this season without scoring, only losing their first four home league games in a season once before (in 1958-59). There’s only been four occasions in top-flight history of a side not scoring in their first four home games, most recently both Crystal Palace and Huddersfield in 2018-19. No side has ever lost their first four home games without scoring in top-flight history.
Luton Town are the only Premier League side yet to take the lead in a Premier League match this season, with their three goals all coming in different games when they were trailing. The last side not to go ahead in any of their first six games in a season was Norwich in 2021-22, whose sixth game was a 2-0 away defeat at Everton.
Everton are averaging 14.2 shots per game in the Premier League this season (85 in 6 games), their highest average in a season since 2013-14 under Roberto Martinez (14.8). Last season, they were averaging 11.3 per game.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his 48th Premier League goal in Everton’s 3-1 win over Brentford, and two goals in this game would see him become only the fourth player to score 50 in the competition for the Toffees, along with Romelu Lukaku (68), Duncan Ferguson (60) and Tim Cahill (56). He last scored more than one goal in a league game in November 2020 against Fulham, netting a brace.
Luton Town’s Carlton Morris has either scored (2) or assisted (1) each of Luton’s first three Premier League goals, with both of his goals coming from the penalty spot. Only two players have been directly involved in each of their teams’ first four Premier League goals – David White for Man City in 1992-93 (3 goals, 1 assist) and Pascal Groß for Brighton in 2017-18 (2 goals, 2 assist).
In Luton’s last game against Wolves, Alfie Doughty created four chances for Jacob Brown – all within the first 20 minutes of the game – the most from one player to another in a Premier League game this season. In contrast, in 125 minutes of playing alongside one another this season, Brown is yet to make a single pass to Doughty.
