Bradley Dack started his career with Gillingham, scoring 31 goals in 160 games between 2012-17
Gillingham came from a goal down to beat Newport County 3-1 at Rodney Parade, setting a club record 21 league games without defeat.
Having levelled their previous record back in the 1973-74 campaign, hopes of breaking it took an early blow as Nathaniel Opoku put County ahead in the opening minute.
Newport - who had won six straight games against Gillingham - should have doubled their lead on nine minutes, but Cameron Antwi's penalty was saved by Glenn Morris.
Bradley Dack, back for his second spell with Gillingham, levelled the score on 23 minutes from the edge of the area before Jonny Smith's long-range effort put the visitors in front for the first time.
Another penalty, this time for Gillingham, was awarded on the stroke of half time, and Dack made no mistake, finding the bottom left corner to give the visitors a commanding lead.
Newport dominated possession after the break, but could not break down a resilient Gillingham defence despite numerous corners and free-kicks.
Victory also sees Gillingham go top of League Two after Swindon's defeat at Salford, while Newport remain without a win in seven and outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
