    Paul Dickov
    Former Manchester City striker

On whether Manchester City can go all the way in the Champions League: I think at the minute, the one thing Pep Guardiola and his teams have always done in the tournament, since he's been in, is the next game. Everybody involved at Manchester City will be looking forward to Real Madrid at the Etihad again.

Am I right in thinking that Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and Aston Villa could all be in same half of the round of 16?

    Anon

Yes, Anon - that could happen.

There's a world in which the following could happen in the top half of the draw.

    • PSG/Brest v Liverpool
    • Club Brugge/Atalanta v Aston Villa
    • Atletico Madrid/Leverkusen v Man City
    • Juventus/PSV v Arsenal

Which could also mean two all-Premier League quarter-finals and therefore an all-Premier League semi-final. OK, maybe that's a step too far...

  5. 'It's a tie that we are looking forward to'published at 12:01 Greenwich Mean Time

    Paul Dickov
    Former Manchester City striker

On Manchester City drawing Real Madrid: Exciting, you know we knew before the draw that it's obviously Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, two European giants, it was going to be a very tough game.

It's crazy that it's four years in a row now that we are playing Real Madrid, the previous four ties have been super exciting, both at the Bernabeu and at the Etihad Stadium. It's a tie that we are looking forward to.

The record at the Etihad Stadium in European games is going to be fantastic. We're at home first. What a game for everybody to watch.

  6. Pep's Real showdownpublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

For the fourth season in a row and the fifth time in six, Manchester City will play Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The score at the moment is two wins each, with City beating Real on their way to reaching the final in 2020 - in a tie that was split by the COVID pandemic - and winning the semi-final in 2023 before beating Inter Milan to win the competition for the first time.

Pep is due to speak to the media at 12:30 GMT. I am sure Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti will get a mention.

So Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa have to wait a little while longer to find out their Champions League fate.

But Celtic and Manchester City know theirs.

The Scottish champions face Bayern Munich, while City are reunited with Real Madrid...

    • This will reduce to one of two teams after the play-off ties have been decided

  10. 'You're going to need a little bit of luck to progress'published at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on The Football News Show

When you look at the draw for both Aston Villa and Liverpool, it's very favourable.

Arsenal's looks really difficult, when you look at the teams in that pot, it becomes very difficult for Arsenal.

This is what happens in the knock-out stages, you come up against the best teams, you're going to have to beat the best teams as well along the way.

Yes, you're going to need a little bit of luck to progress, but teams now have the chance to strengthen in the window. I don't think teams will fear [Manchester] City in the way that they used to.

Gary AVFC, Oxford: RE the most desirable half of the draw, wouldn't that depend on who from the top 8 ends up in the bottom half with you? Although, as a Villa fan, they all look tough. Arsenal or Inter? Leverkusen or Atletico? Liverpool or Barca? I'll take the bottom half I guess.

  12. 'Atalanta have got a brilliant path to go far'published at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time

    John Bennett
BBC Final Score reporter on The Football News Show

I feel sorry for Brest, they've been a surprise team in the Champions League, they get through to the knock-outs and they're playing a game against Paris St-Germain.

Atalanta, I think they have got a brilliant path to go far in this competition, playing Club Brugge in the play-off round. I think they can go far.

I'm slightly disappointed we didn't get Juventus v AC Milan because it would have been another heavyweight clash.

That Manchester City v Real Madrid tie really stands out.

  15. Man City v Real Madrid standout tiepublished at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on The Football News Show

On Manchester City v Real Madrid: It has to be the [standout tie], City v Real Madrid is fantastic, also Celtic against Bayern Munich is an incredible game.

If you're looking for a game of just quality as well, away from the so-called bigger names, I'd look at Sporting v Dortmund. Both teams have got incredible fan bases, incredible stadiums. I think those games, you'll be looking and thinking decent quality.

    Chris King, Plymouth

Well Chris, Bayern Munich are not the reigning champions of Germany, for a change, but they look to be well placed to regain their title, so we know what you mean.
