Norwich City head coach Liam Manning has overseen just two wins in 13 Championship games this season

Hull City won for only the second time in 53 years at Carrow Road as the Norwich City fans chanted for head coach Liam Manning to be sacked.

Norwich owner Mark Attanasio had backed Manning in the week, but it remains to be seen how patient he will be after the Canaries' sixth straight league defeat left them second from bottom in the Championship.

Joe Gelhardt scored the opener in the second half with his fourth in four games for Hull, before Darko Gyabi netted late on for his first Tigers goal.

Hull have taken 13 points from their last available 15 to strengthen boss Sergej Jakirovic's unexpected promotion push.

Norwich had scored only four home league goals before the visit of Hull and they demonstrated just why as they missed a succession of chances against the Tigers.

Even the normally reliable Josh Sargent's confidence has been drained by Norwich's collapse, and he skied a chance from just two yards out at the back post.

Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur then saved a downwards header from Shane Duffy before centre-half Ruairi McConville nodded wide for the home side.

The game was briefly held up when some home fans threw tennis balls on to the pitch in protest at plans to move 3,000 supporters as part of the redevelopment of Carrow Road.

Jeffrey Schlupp was dangerous on the left and he saw a right-foot shot come off the top of the crossbar before team-mate Oscar Schwartau shot wide.

But just as Derby County did two matches ago, Hull took full advantage of Norwich's profligacy to score through Gelhardt on 49 minutes with their first attempt on goal to turn the game on its head.

Gelhardt latched on to Matt Crooks' header and drove forward before sliding the ball home.

Norwich, devoid of confidence, tried to respond and Schwartau shot weakly at Pandur when he should have done better.

Kyle Joseph might have added a second for Hull when Duffy slipped to let him in before Gyabi sealed the win three minutes from time when he netted at the second attempt.

This was greeted by boos from the home fans, who chanted for Manning to go, in this huge test of Attanasio's resolve.

'I apologise to the fans for that' - Manning

Norwich City head coach Liam Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk:

[On exiting down the players' tunnel at the final whistle] "I apologise to the fans for that, it's not good from me.

"I'm hurting, it's not the right thing to do and I apologise to everyone for that.

"Ultimately you're tired of saying the same things - I'm scratching my head.

"I reflect on my performance first, and you look at the first half and you have to be ahead.

"We just shoot ourselves in the foot by giving away, yet again, a horrific goal.

"It's the same message, you keep fighting. Clearly there's a lot that needs to change. We have to look in-house and change."

'A huge three points for us' - Jakirovic

Jakirovic: 'It's a huge victory for us'

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Joffy's [Joe Gelhardt] finish was excellent with his weak foot. He had also problems with his ankle and he had a kick in the first half.

"I was asking him if he wanted to continue, but he wanted to play. This also shows his character and he wants to play all the time. I'm very, very happy with him and since he's arrived here, his statistics are amazing.

"I must admit, we survived the first half because Norwich were much better than us. At half-time, we changed our shape, and from the beginning of the second half, we looked much better. These are a huge three points for us."
