  1. CLOSE!published at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

    Should be 2-0.

A Bryan Mbuemo corner is allowed to bounce into the area through to Mathias Jensen, who hooks a volley towards goal.

It is heading into the bottom corner, only to hit the back of team mate Sepp van den Berg and fly wide.

    A real let-off for Wednesday.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Bryan Mbeumo is the best player a lot of these young Sheffield Wednesday defenders will have faced so far in their careers, and he is producing some stand-out moments.

Here he cuts in from the right to shoot left-footed, albeit straight at keeper Pierce Charles. The powerful effort is spilled by Charles, but his defence help out to clear.

  3. Postpublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Bryan Mbeumo is almost found with a raking 60-yard ball from left back to right wing, but he cannot quite get it under control under pressure from Marvin Johnson.

Another star member of Brentford's front line, Yoane Wissa, is warming up.

  4. Postpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Around nine minutes remaining of the first half at the Gtech.

Brentford have had seven shots and 62% possession, but Sheffield Wednesday are hanging on in there.

Don't give up on Stoke. The Saints are specialists at throwing away a lead!

    Steve (Saints Fan), Coalpit Heath

That nasty feeling at 20:25 - every Saints fan wondering why you’d ever jinx it like that…

    Sorry, Hannah...

    HT: Southampton 2-1 Stoke City

I really shouldn't have written off Stoke. I was live texting Southampton v Leicester, where the hosts dominated for 65 minutes and led 2-0 - but contrived to lose 2-3.

    So don't go anywhere.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton 2-1 Stoke City

Well, for 44 minutes there was only one team in that game.

But halves of football are 45 minutes at least, and Stoke made the most of every second. Game on!

  8. 'Brentford haven't made the most of being in good positions'published at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Australia keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford haven't made the most of being in good positions after having some half decent chances in the box and some last ditch defending from Sheffield Wednesday, which is what has kept the later in this game.

  9. Postpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton 2-1 Stoke City

Into three minutes of added time. Suddenly there is nervousness around St. Mary's, while the Stoke fans are in good voice.

Maxwel Cornet tries a volley but badly mistimes it.

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

    Alex Howell
BBC football news reporter at the Gtech Community Stadium

It's gone a little bit flat in the last few minutes. The quality isn't low, it's just that Brentford are comfortably on top and dictating the tempo of the game.

  11. goal

GOAL - Southampton 2-1 Stoke Citypublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Ashley Phillips (45 mins)

    From nothing!

A hopeful free kick is pumped into the box, two Stoke players get in each others way and there looks to be no danger for the Saints.

Yet the ball bounces off the unaware Yuki Suganawa, and falls to central defender Ashley Phillips who produces a back geel flick worthy of any striker to lever the ball into the bottom corner.

His first senior goal, and it brings this game to life.

  12. Postpublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Fabio Carvalho, one of several players brought into the Brentford XI tonight, tries a shot from the edge of the box but it hits a couple of legs and away keeper Pierce Charles can dive on the loose ball.

Carvalho then makes a buccaneering run through teh middle, however is eased away from goal by centre back Dominic Iorfa. Very good defending.

  13. Postpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton 2-0 Stoke City

Five minutes until half time at St. Mary's, and I have a nasty feeling it is game over already.

Stoke striker Tom Cannon has not had a sniff. Just five touches so far, three in the opposition half and one in the box.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton 2-0 Stoke City

Nothing is ever quite smooth sailing for Russell Martin this season.

Ryan Fraser has picked up a knock and has to be subbed early doors. Maxwel Cornet replaces him on the left wing.

  15. 'Very unlucky for Sheffield Wednesday'published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Australia keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

On the Brentford goal: It was a great ball initially and Kevin Schade was very quick to pounce as he makes that run. The goalkeeper does well as he comes out and makes himself big but he's really unlucky as he makes this block and it hits his own defender and then falls into the path of Schade for him to poke it in.

    Very unlucky for Sheffield Wednesday.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday owe it to young goalkeeper Pierce Charles that they are not also two goals down.

He goes full stretch to tip a looping Keane Lewis-Potter effort over the top.

  17. goal

GOAL - Southampton 2-0 Stoke Citypublished at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Adam Armstrong (penalty, 35 mins)

Armstrong sends the ball to the keeper's left. Jack Bonham heads right.

The Saints striker is finally off the mark this campaign.

  18. PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTONpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton 1-0 Stoke City

It's a soft spot kick, as Stoke defender Jaden Dixon dawdles on the ball, is robbed then catches the ankle of Yukinari Sugawara.

  19. Postpublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Anthony Musaba makes a valiant break into the box for Wednesday, but last season's top scorer for the Owls runs out of room before he can square or shoot, as keeper Mark Flekken blocks him off.

  20. Postpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Brentford 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

    Alex Howell
BBC football news reporter at the Gtech Community Stadium

Brentford do look really sharp going forward. There's a lot of pace in their team tonight with Lewis-Potter, Carvalho, Mbeumo and Schade.
