  1. Goals incoming?published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

Brentford v Sheffield Wednesday (20.00 GMT)

Brentford are the top scorers at home in the Premier League this season, averaging three goals a game.

Sheffield Wednesday are joint top scorers in the League Cup so far this campaign - level, funnily enough, with Stoke on eight goals from three games.

We hope for and expect a high scoring affair in west London.

  2. 'Opportunity' for Brentfordpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

Former Australia keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think for Brentford obviously the Premier League is what's most important, however they have established themselves as a regular in the Premier League but this is an opportunity for them.

And that's why Thomas Frank has such a strong line-up, yes he has made changes from the last game but he has a lot of Premier League experience there. It's also a side that you expect to win on paper but as we know you can't take that approach because you have to be on your game. Sheffield Wednesday are not just going to roll over are they.

  4. 'I always knew I wanted to coach'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

Southampton v Stoke City (19.45 GMT)

    Southampton

On a special episode of BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, Southampton boss Russell Martin spoke to former Premier League striker Glenn Murray about his early football memories: "My older brother played. I grew up going to games from an early age, some of my earliest memories are playing football and I loved it, being around the smell of the dressing room, the deep heat, the burger stall. I loved it. My mum and everyone else told me that from 18 months I always had a ball with me. All I wanted to do was play football.

"I'm the second youngest, the penultimate child. There were four of us and we had two foster brothers as well, so there were a lot of lads in the house.

"We were constantly in the garden, in the park. I remember a game where you'd put the ball in the middle of the front room and run from each wall and end up smashing [into each other].

"I did my first badge at 17 in college and I coached on a Saturday morning.

"I often think career coaches who skipped playing can figure out what works, what doesn't, what they like and what age group they want to specialise in. I missed that, but I was playing and getting real experience in other areas that I can now relate to players.

"My coaching bits had come from coaching kids at Norwich's academy and I remember I was hammered on the team bus when I had my laptop out doing courses."

Tonight marks the 50th competitive meeting between Southampton and Stoke City.

Of the 49 previous encounters, Southampton have won 22 while Stoke have triumphed in 15, with 12 draws.

  7. Away advantage?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton v Stoke City (19.45)

When Southampton and Stoke met in the Championship last season, both league fixtures ended in 1-0 victories to the away side.

Will we see another victory for the visitors tonight? It would be an upset if we did.

  8. 'I do think it will be a difficult night for them'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

Brentford v Sheffield Wednesday (20:00 GMT)

    Andy Reid
Ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the main focus for Sheffield Wednesday is going to be the Championship. They sit mid-table, four points off the bottom three but also four points off the play off.

I think that shows where the focus is, but that doesn't mean that there can't be an upset tonight. You never know how cup competitions are going to play out. I do think it will be a difficult night for them though.

Brentford v Sheffield Wednesday (20:00 GMT)

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Australia keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Brentford's home form is exceptional. The way they start games with a high intensity is going to be a problem (for Sheffield Wednesday). Thomas Frank spoke much about how important this tournament is and how he wants to take it seriously, so he's going to have a very strong side.

Sheffield Wednesday for them, it's about the league and not so much the cup competitions. We're expecting a lot of changes from this side. I think it will be a tough night for Sheffield Wednesday however you can't underestimate the underdogs.

  10. Last time they met...published at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

Brentford v Sheffield Wednesday (20.00 GMT)

This is the first competitive match between the Bees and the Owls since 2021, when they were in the Championship together.

Brentford won 3-0 in February of that year, on their way to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

In fact, Brentford have won their last three games against Wednesday while scoring 10 goals in the process.

By the way, thank you to the many eagle eyed viewers who spotted that, in the summary, we had Brentford down as visiting Southampton tonight as well as hosting Sheffield Wednesday.

That has now been corrected. Thomas Frank's team play a high energy style, but even for them two games in a night is a bit much.

  12. Who will break their winless streak?published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October

    Southampton v Stoke City (19.45)

Neither the Saints nor the Potters have enjoyed a fruitful start to this campaign.

Southampton are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with one point from nine games, while Stoke are 19th in the Championship, a single point above the relegation zone.

Neither side has won in their last four fixtures. One of them will get some much needed respite from a barren run tonight.

Thomas Frank said in his programme notes that Brentford want to field a 'strong side' but also use the options in his squad.

He's definitely done that with five changes to his side that beat Ipswich at the weekend.

It's still a strong line-up though with key man Bryan Mbeumo in the starting XI.

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Australia keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think they [Brentford fans] will be absolutely delighted that it looks like Manchester United have gone elsewhere. I think that the job that Thomas Frank has done at Brentford has been exceptional.

I think time and time again he continues to prove if there are any doubter what a quality manager that he is. And I think anytime a big job is brought up he will always be linked to it, but he is doing an amazing job at Brentford.

While it now looks as if Ruben Amorim is Manchester United's number one choice for a new manager, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been one of several names linked with Old Trafford.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Frank sais he wanted to just "focus" on the Sheffield Wednesday match and insisted their approach will be "very strong and we will take this very seriously".

He added: "I don't know if you'll be surprised, but maybe you will when you see the line-up we put out there tomorrow. It will be a very strong team. We've got big respect for the competition, we've got big respect for Sheffield Wednesday."

He is expecting a "difficult game" because the Owls are "very good on the counter" and "have great physicality".
