Bottom of the table and without a win in the Women's Super League this season - the picture looks bleak for Everton.

The club remain in limbo as they await the impending takeover by the Friedkin Group, which is set to end a protracted process involving several other parties.

The wait has affected all areas, including the women's team - where it has hit Everton's ability to compete in the transfer window and keep up with investment by WSL rivals.

Serious injuries have added to manager Brian Sorensen's woes and a 5-0 defeat by defending WSL champions Chelsea last weekend added to their misery.

Nick Cushing - one of the candidates for Arsenal women's managerial vacancy - has seemingly ruled himself out of a return to the Women's Super League.

The former Manchester City women's boss emerged as an early candidate to replace Jonas Eidevall, but told a pre-match news conference he expects to still be with the Major League Soccer (MLS) side next season.

"The whole story is news to me," Cushing said.

"There has been no contact from anybody outside this organisation with myself. I can confirm I will be here next year."

There were plenty of goals in north London, too, with Arsenal putting five past Brighton as their impressive form under interim boss Renee Slegers continued.

Beth Mead, Caitlin Foord, Frida Maanum, Lina Hurtig and Alessia Russo were all on the scoresheet for the Gunners.

With Nick Cushing seemingly ruling himself out of the Arsenal job, it's another result that helps Sleger's chances of landing the permanent role.

Khadija Shaw says Manchester City want to raise their level to be "unstoppable" after comfortably beating Tottenham at Etihad Stadium.

Shaw's first goal came after just 24 seconds when she pounced on an error by Tottenham defender Clare Hunt, and her hat-trick was complete in the 67th minute.

"I just pride myself in trying to work for the team, because I know with the players I have around me I'm going to get opportunities," Shaw told Sky Sports.

"I'm quite a confident player and I know what I can do on the pitch, and Tottenham is no different. I'm just scoring against them - what can I say?

"Once we go at every game on the front foot from the first whistle, we're really good.

"We have to keep going and see where we can raise the level even better, so when we get to that level, we're unstoppable."
