Premier League title winner with Blackburn

This is a great game to finish the week off. It ended up 4-3 to Chelsea earlier in the season, and there are likely to be a few more goals this time too.

Chelsea have people like Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke back from injury to bolster their attack, but Spurs have got some key players like Micky van de Ven fit again too.

Tottenham's league campaign has been disappointing - it is winning the Europa League or bust for them - while Chelsea are still chasing the Champions League places.

Spurs looked tired to me before the international break, so it will be interesting to see what they are like here. We know how exciting they can be on their day, it is just those days have been few and far between this season.

Chelsea have been a bit flat as well, but maybe this is the game where both teams come to life and serve up a thriller - that is what I am hoping for anyway.

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana would certainly have started today against Tottenham but he is injured.

The Blues have not released much information about the injury at this early stage but say he will be assessed in the coming days.

This is the pressure of being at a big club and the pressure for these players is getting Champions League with nine games to go.

Cole Palmer has had that little break and sometimes you need that, a little bit of refreshment to charge up again.

Watching him warm up here, he can't wait to get on the ball. He's the sort of boy that needs to play football. If he wasn't playing now he'd probably be up the park with his mates, he's so enthused by this game.

To see him back today gives everybody a lift.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca says Cole Palmer having some days off during the international break was "a good thing".

Palmer missed the trip to Arsenal through injury and pulled out of Thomas Tuchel's first England squad to focus on rest and recovery.

"The reason why he was not with the international team was that the day before Arsenal, he had a muscle problem that was not a big issue, but didn't allow him to play the Arsenal game and join his international team," he said.

"We always say that going with the international team is the best thing for a player, but overall, some days off for Cole and some rest was a good thing."

The way that Chelsea's form has gone since the turn of the year, it's a surprise that they're still up there. I think that's a reflection of how things have gone generally in the Premier League.

It gives them a great chance, if they can kick off and show some of the form they showed earlier in the season.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said his players were left “aware of the standards” he expects after a planned day off was cancelled due to a poor showing in training.

With many of the squad away on international duty, Maresca was left with a small pool with which to work and was unhappy with the efforts shown last Wednesday during an informal match against one of the club’s youth sides.

In response the group was called in to work the following day rather than having the Thursday off, but Maresca played down the significance of scotching the rest day in preference for an extra session.

“It was a normal session with the boys, not about punishment or making them run,” he said.

“The day after they are completely aware of the standards of the day before. Everyone was here laughing. Nothing that from outside you can see but inside wasn’t nothing different.”

Chelsea have lost just one of their past 12 Premier League games against Tottenham, winning the past three in a row by an aggregate score of 10-4.

Chelsea have won more Premier League games (36) and scored more Premier League goals (120) against Tottenham than they have against any other opponent.

Tottenham start the day 14th in the Premier League and you have to go back to 2003-04 for the last time Spurs finished as low as that, coming 14th after David Pleat had replaced Glenn Hoddle as manager in September of that season.

They also came 14th in 1997-98, a season that started with Gerry Francis and ended with Christian Gross in charge.

Since the top flight was rebranded as the Premier League in 1992, Tottenham's worst finish was coming 15th in 1993-94 under Ossie Ardiles, although there were 22 teams in the top division in that season.

Spurs have not been outside the top 15 in England since 1977-78 when they had one season in the old Second Division.

There are different pressures for Chelsea and Tottenham today.

Chelsea have dropped into sixth place as they play last on this matchday with top four/five one of the main targets before the season started.

Enzo Maresca's team have been unconvincing in recent weeks - even when beating relegation certainties Leicester and Southampton - with a difficult run of fixtures until the end of the season.

Spurs have very little to play for in the league but, ahead of a protest on Sunday, could do with adding some good will.

The Europa League has kept the season alive but a shock win could kickstart momentum and lift a lot of pressure in what could still be their worst season in the Premier League era.

Ange Postecoglou had no issue with former Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino's recent comments about wanting to return to the club, saying: "If he wants to come back one day, then I hope it happens for him. I don't feel disrespected."

He dismissed further questions about his future as Tottenham manager: "I don't deal with it. It doesn't rock my world - it doesn't consume me. I know my responsibilities are, and I am sure if the club decides to go in a different direction, there are some outstanding candidates for it. And you know what, maybe someone will think: 'Ange Postecoglou is not a bad coach - maybe we'll take a punt on him'."

In doing so, he reiterated his commitment to what he is trying to achieve at Tottenham: "I am passionate about what we're doing. I was brought in to change the way the club plays, rejuvenate the squad and bring success. I am focused on that, and that is what I'll keep doing."

Spurs’ season hinges on Europa League success and Ange Postecoglou remains hopeful the trip to Stamford Bridge is the first of 14 fixtures between now and May 25.

“We kind of know now that there’s nine league games, hopefully five in Europa, so you’ve got 14 games – 53 days together,” Postecoglou said.

“So, you’ve got a clear amount of time, with no interruption, so you’ve got a clear plan there of what we can do, but you’ve got to chip away at it game by game.

“I do sense the players are excited by the prospect of, ‘we’re here now, whatever we’ve been through, we’ve been through and we’ve still got an opportunity to do something special this year’.

“Let’s tackle that in the manner we try to do everything so far. Playing our football and having a real positive mindset about things.”

For Ange Postecoglou it feels like he's going to make history or be history.

When you lose 15 games in a season as Tottenham manager, still having great players at your disposal, it's not going to wash with the fans and the performances, like the one a few weeks ago against Fulham, haven't been good enough.

If they can win some silverware it'll be unbelievable for them.

It can still be such a great season, there's a lot to look forward to but if they get knocked out [of the Europa League] next week, it's going to be a really tough last few weeks of the season.

Tottenham supporters are planning yet another protest through the Change for Spurs organisation at the upcoming home game against Southampton on Sunday.

Although there will be no such protest at an away match, there will likely be little patience for any misstep away at fierce rivals Chelsea tonight.

That anger is increasingly directed at manager Ange Postecoglou after defeat at Fulham saw him collect just 44 points in his last 38 games in charge.

But chairman and co-owner Daniel Levy remains another target and his message to supporters after the club's recent statement will likely have done little to calm the tension between the two parties.
