Everton looked lost and in trouble when they sacked Sean Dyche, but in a few short weeks David Moyes has given them fresh confidence, belief - and far more importantly ten points.

There was no disguising his passion on the touchline last night, as well as the celebrations for James Tarkowski's last minute equaliser.

Moyes looks right at home in his second spell, and his previous knowledge of what Everton fans demand plays right into the atmosphere experienced last night.

  2. Slot 'could still be in dugout' on Sundaypublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time

Boss Arne Slot could still be in the Liverpool dugout to face Wolves on Sunday, despite his red card in the Merseyside derby.

The Football Association needs to review referee's Michael Oliver's report before making a decision whether to take no further action, remind the Reds boss of his responsibilities or charge him.

Slot was dismissed along with assistant Sipke Hulshoff after the final whistle of the 2-2 draw with Liverpool adamant James Tarkowski's injury-time leveller should have been ruled out for a shove in the build-up.

The Premier League has earlier written on its website Slot will serve a two-match touchline ban following his sending off before deleting it.

The FA has three working days to make the decision meaning it still may not come before Sunday's clash with Wolves at Anfield in the Premier League.

Slot served a touchline ban in the Carabao Cup quarter-final with Southampton in December after collecting three yellow cards but those cautious do not immediately impact the 46-year-old.

They could, however, be aggravating factors taken into account during any hearing, if Slot is charged and decides to have one.

    Celtic 1-2 Bayern Munich

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels said: "There are a lot of positive points. We just need to keep on believing in ourselves. We're still in the game and that was the aim.

"We have shown we can match Bayern and it's up to us now to go there and believe we can do something. We don't need to change a lot.

"I think we are improving in every aspect. We can be compact and you saw in the last 20 minutes that we really can hurt them."

Celtic's first defeat in the competition this season was a drubbing in Dortmund. A match where they fell behind to a German giant and folded.

But as this campaign has continued, they've grown in quality and character. The latter of those was especially on show here.

Once again they came under intense pressure from feted European side, but this time they didn't buckle.

Maeda flashed a ball across the face after darting in front of Neuer, while Reo Hatate also had a sight of goal, as Rodgers' side attempted to yank themselves back into the tie.

For a few moments, Arne Engels even thought he might have an opportunity from the spot when he was caught by Dayot Upamecano but, after a lengthy VAR wait, that possibility disappeared.

It could have been so very different had Idah shimmied out of the path of Kuhn's strike inside the first minute, but even the start in itself was a sign of progress.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: "It's a big goal for us, for our confidence in the game. You saw in the last 25 minutes, once we started to have more aggression in the game, we were much better.

"To get the goal and push like we did was pleasing. We've got one more shot now, next week, to try and claw it back.

"It looked like we got off to a great start. Unfortunately, it was disallowed. We didn't give away too much but I wasn't happy with how passive we were at times.

"The corner [for Harry Kane's goal] was disappointing. One of the world's best strikers shouldn't be left free in the box, that's for sure."

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is set to miss the entire season after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

The 25-year-old’s absence will leave the North Londoners without a recognised striker until the end of the 2024-25 season as a surgical repair is discussed.

Sources close to Havertz expect surgery will be needed after he flew back with the team from a warm weather training camp in Dubai on Tuesday.

Arsenal are yet to comment publicly on Havertz’s injury.

Striker Gabriel Jesus has also had surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while star forward Bukayo Saka has had surgery on a hamstring injury sustained in December.

Gabriel Martinelli injured his hamstring last week in the Carabao Cup defeat at Newcastle and is reportedly out for “more than one month”.

We reported earlier that the Premier League website said Arne Slot will serve a two-match touchline ban for his sending off at Everton.

But the Premier League has now deleted the line about the Liverpool boss from the article, external on their website.

"Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language," it had said.

It could have been different for Celtic, they had a goal disallowed after just 30 seconds through VAR.

They also had a penalty dismissed after the referee was instructed to look again by VAR when Dayot Upamecano caught Arne Engels in the 58th minute. But by that time Bayern were already 2-0 up, a quality striker from Michael Olise on the stroke of half time and a Harry Kane volley four minutes into the second half.

While Daizen Maeda reduced the arrears with 11 minutes to go, it only offers Celtic a glimmer of hope.

Last night's result for Liverpool is a distraction, it’s how they respond to it that counts. Titles are won and lost on the mentality of players. If they use the frustration and turnover Wolves convincingly then they will be unstoppable. If negative thoughts enter heads and they drop points on Sunday, then the door is wide open. Fielding weaker teams (against PSV/Plymouth) can break up momentum too. Long way to go!

  17. 'That was spine-tingling'published at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time

The rendition of you will never walk alone, where they just cut the music and let the supporters sing it, that was spine-tingling. You had that guttural roar ahead of kick-off.

When they got that late goal, they were urged on. The Celtic supporters played their part. But ultimately, I have always felt they needed to win to stand any chance of seeing off Bayern. Yes it was a spirited finish but a case of too little, too late.

  18. Celtic take German lessons to avert 'absolute thumping'published at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time

    Celtic 1-2 Bayern Munich

When Harry Kane volleyed Bayern Munich into a two-goal Champions League play-off lead, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton feared his old side would be on the end of "an absolute thumping".

With the drubbing in Dortmund earlier in the competition still fresh in the mind, he surely wouldn't have been the only one with such worries.

Yet in their latest tussle with a German giant, Celtic emerged defeated 2-1, but "not broken" in the words of manager Brendan Rodgers.

In times gone by, a thrashing might have ensued after going behind, but this time Celtic scrapped until the final whistle in search of an unlikely equaliser.

There was a confidence and savvy about Rodgers' side, to the degree that Sutton - speaking on Champions League Match of the Day - said Celtic were "dominant at the end and probably feel a little bit hard done by that they didn't get an equaliser".
