Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy speaking ahead of Premier League meeting with Arsenal: "Not having [Bukayo] Saka and [Kai] Havertz, they are top of the world players. It is something they will feel. But they have enough players to replace them.

"The difference between us and Arsenal is big, we can see that. It’s in the table, it’s clear. It’s a big challenge for us - something to look forward to and to continue building the last performance as well. The lads showed they were capable."

  2. Injured Arsenal quartet make up nearly half of Gunners' goalspublished at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

It's only logical that injuries in attack would damage a team's scoring output.

But, with Havertz joining Saka, Jesus and Martinelli on the injury table, the numbers don't make happy reading for Arsenal fans.

The quartet make up 49% of *all* of Arsenal's goals this season.

Havertz is the Gunners' top scorer with 15 goals (19%), Saka has netted nine goals (12%), while Jesus and Martinelli have both scored seven times (9%, 9%).

  4. Which forwards are currently available to play for Arsenal?published at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

    Arsenal

Earlier, we told you that Kai Havertz is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in training. It's another huge blow to Mikel Arteta, who's already dealing with the absences of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. So who does he actually have available?

    • Leoandro Trossard - The Belgian has made 36 appearances for Arsenal so far in this campaign, contributing eight goals in 24 games in the Premier League. Trossard has mainly been used on the left of the front three, but can play centrally as a false nine, just as Havertz had been doing.
    • Ethan Nwaneri - The 17-year-old has featured plenty this season but - in the wake of recent injuries - has had more game time of late. And, with that, he's scored three goals in his last five Arsenal matches.
    • Raheem Sterling - Seen as mainly an option to come off the bench to impact the game, Sterling has struggled to hit form during his loan spell at Arsenal. He hasn't scored and only has one assist in nine Premier League games. However, the 30-year-old is able to play across the frontline and is still a proven and experienced Premier League player.
    • Nathan Butler-Oyedeji - Arsenal academy graduate Butler-Oyedeji has not yet made an appearance for the Gunners in the Premier League but made his debut as a substitute in the Champions League in the 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb last month. He is a centre-forward which Arsenal are clearly in need of at the moment.

  5. Havertz injury adds to Arteta 'disappointment'published at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

It doesn't rain but it pours for Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard wanted to sign a centre forward in the winter January transfer window and that was before injuries to Havertz and Martinelli.

Arteta admitted he was 'disappointed' with the club's inability to recruit a forward and that decision looks even more glaring now.

"We had a clear intention which is always when a window opens to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can make an impact," said Arteta.

"With players injured, we've been impacted and we haven't achieved it. We are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that as well."

  6. What is semi-automated offside?published at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

Semi-automated offside technology is a system that uses cameras and software to help determine if a player is offside.

It's been designed to help officials speed up the process of making offside calls and should - theoretically at least - reduce errors.

The technology was used earlier this week when Erling Haaland opened the scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League at the Etihad.

The decision took VAR around four minutes as officials had to determine whether Josko Gvardiol had played the ball backwards to Haaland.

So, don't expect it to completely remove those long waits.

Now that Havertz is out, a few "notable" free agent forwards (according to transfermarkt) are available: Ryan Fraser, Gerard Deulofeu, Diego Costa, Carlos Vela, Kemar Roofe & Jean-Kevin Augustin and more. Take your pick Arsenal.

  8. Semi-automated offside technology to be used for first time in Englandpublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February
    Breaking

The Football Association have announced that semi-automated offside technology will be used for the first time in England during the fifth round of the FA Cup in March.

The technology, which is used in the Champions League, will be utilised in seven of the eight FA Cup matches.

The Premier League, which had hoped to introduce the technology in 2024, will look to implement semi-automated offsides 'later this season'.

Everton looked lost and in trouble when they sacked Sean Dyche, but in a few short weeks David Moyes has given them fresh confidence, belief - and far more importantly ten points.

There was no disguising his passion on the touchline last night, as well as the celebrations for James Tarkowski's last minute equaliser.

Moyes looks right at home in his second spell, and his previous knowledge of what Everton fans demand plays right into the atmosphere experienced last night.

  10. Slot 'could still be in dugout' on Sundaypublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February

Boss Arne Slot could still be in the Liverpool dugout to face Wolves on Sunday, despite his red card in the Merseyside derby.

The Football Association needs to review referee's Michael Oliver's report before making a decision whether to take no further action, remind the Reds boss of his responsibilities or charge him.

Slot was dismissed along with assistant Sipke Hulshoff after the final whistle of the 2-2 draw with Liverpool adamant James Tarkowski's injury-time leveller should have been ruled out for a shove in the build-up.

The Premier League has earlier written on its website Slot will serve a two-match touchline ban following his sending off before deleting it.

The FA has three working days to make the decision meaning it still may not come before Sunday's clash with Wolves at Anfield in the Premier League.

Slot served a touchline ban in the Carabao Cup quarter-final with Southampton in December after collecting three yellow cards but those cautious do not immediately impact the 46-year-old.

They could, however, be aggravating factors taken into account during any hearing, if Slot is charged and decides to have one.

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels said: "There are a lot of positive points. We just need to keep on believing in ourselves. We're still in the game and that was the aim.

"We have shown we can match Bayern and it's up to us now to go there and believe we can do something. We don't need to change a lot.

"I think we are improving in every aspect. We can be compact and you saw in the last 20 minutes that we really can hurt them."

Celtic's first defeat in the competition this season was a drubbing in Dortmund. A match where they fell behind to a German giant and folded.

But as this campaign has continued, they've grown in quality and character. The latter of those was especially on show here.

Once again they came under intense pressure from feted European side, but this time they didn't buckle.

Maeda flashed a ball across the face after darting in front of Neuer, while Reo Hatate also had a sight of goal, as Rodgers' side attempted to yank themselves back into the tie.

For a few moments, Arne Engels even thought he might have an opportunity from the spot when he was caught by Dayot Upamecano but, after a lengthy VAR wait, that possibility disappeared.

It could have been so very different had Idah shimmied out of the path of Kuhn's strike inside the first minute, but even the start in itself was a sign of progress.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: "It's a big goal for us, for our confidence in the game. You saw in the last 25 minutes, once we started to have more aggression in the game, we were much better.

"To get the goal and push like we did was pleasing. We've got one more shot now, next week, to try and claw it back.

"It looked like we got off to a great start. Unfortunately, it was disallowed. We didn't give away too much but I wasn't happy with how passive we were at times.

"The corner [for Harry Kane's goal] was disappointing. One of the world's best strikers shouldn't be left free in the box, that's for sure."

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is set to miss the entire season after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

The 25-year-old’s absence will leave the North Londoners without a recognised striker until the end of the 2024-25 season as a surgical repair is discussed.

Sources close to Havertz expect surgery will be needed after he flew back with the team from a warm weather training camp in Dubai on Tuesday.

Arsenal are yet to comment publicly on Havertz’s injury.

Striker Gabriel Jesus has also had surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while star forward Bukayo Saka has had surgery on a hamstring injury sustained in December.

Gabriel Martinelli injured his hamstring last week in the Carabao Cup defeat at Newcastle and is reportedly out for “more than one month”.

We reported earlier that the Premier League website said Arne Slot will serve a two-match touchline ban for his sending off at Everton.

But the Premier League has now deleted the line about the Liverpool boss from the article, external on their website.

"Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language," it had said.
