1. What matches will Jones and Doucoure miss?published at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time

Both Jones and Doucoure will serve one-match suspensions for last night's red cards.

It means Jones will miss Sunday's visit of Wolves to Anfield (14:00 GMT), while Doucoure will miss Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace (17:30 GMT).

  2. 'It was a proper derby'published at 08:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Gary Cahill
Former Chelsea and Aston Villa defender on Football Daily podcast

That was a proper derby game. Rolling back the years. On the whole it was played in a great way, very passionate fight in the game. I know it spilled over towards the end but on the whole I thought the game was very competitive.

What an end and what a finish. It was fitting in the last derby at Goodison. I think Everton come off the field feeling like they have won the game and the finish from [James] Tarkowski right at the death was phenomenal. It's a finish like a striker. It has rocketed in and I think it added to the atmosphere.

Well done Everton for last night. Moyes you have done a cracking job turning their season around. As an Arsenal fan it’s a shame we aren’t in the position to push Liverpool now.

    Guy from Nottingham

Definitely can see Villa and City getting all 3 points against Liverpool this month - leaving it right to the wire! Come on Arsenal!

  4. 'Doucoure suspension disappointing'published at 08:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    David Moyes
    Everton manager

I didn't see it from where I was.

I have had a chance to see it and I'm disappointed because Doucoure played really well and I'm going to now lose him because he's got a second yellow card which turned into a red.

  5. 'I can understand Jones' reaction'published at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time

    Rio Ferdinand
Former Man Utd defender on TNT Sports

Going against opposition fans I don't think is wrong. The difference is when it is a local derby, you don't like them but there is a respect and you know there is a torch paper that will be lit.

Other games you can do that because it is a bit of banter. Sometimes it is emotions. Mario Balotelli did this with the Man Utd fans once and I was incensed and we got into a melee so I can understand why Curtis Jones did what he did.

I was at the game last night, we may have celebrated that late, late, late goal like a win... but it was much more than that.. imagine the Liverpool fans this morning had they won the last Derby at Goodison Park.

    Daniel, Southport

Was at the derby last night and what a fitting send off the Old Lady. Blood and thunder from the first minute and a well deserved equaliser at the death. Liverpool were masters of their own downfall with their time wasting goal kicks, sitting down at the slightest touch, etc. Michael Oliver did warn you that he was adding the time on, and up steps captain Marvel!

Abdoulaye Doucoure had 37,000 of his own fans to go and celebrate in front of.

To go and antagonise the Liverpool fans was a silly decision. It was only going to end one way.

  9. Doucoure wanted to provoke Liverpool fans - Van Dijkpublished at 07:58 Greenwich Mean Time

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk was, as you can imagine, pretty annoyed after Everton's last-gasp equaliser.

As well as accusing referee Oliver of failing to have the game 'under control', the Dutchman said Everton midfielder Doucoure wanted to 'provoke' Liverpool supporters with his celebrations at the full-time whistle.

"We saw how they celebrated the goal, they have all the right to," Reds captain Van Dijk told TNT Sports.

"I think Abdoulaye Doucoure wanted to provoke our fans, I think that is what I saw and Curtis Jones didn't think it was the right thing to do. And then you know what happens if there is a little tussle.

"I didn't think the referee had the game under control. Both teams had to deal with it. This was their cup final.

"I think the referee had a big part in the game, in terms of certain challenges were given as fouls and similar weren't."

Morning Sports Fans. What a cracking derby last night, and Everton thoroughly deserved to be the beneficiaries of a late equaliser for once. I have the utmost respect for the Premier League officials, but some of their decisions during this game were pretty bizarre to say the least 🤔. 7 points clear LFC march on.

  12. Can Liverpool be caught?published at 07:40 Greenwich Mean Time

Here's the state of play at the top after last night's draw.

Liverpool have a healthy seven-point lead at the top and they're now level on matches played with Arsenal for the first time in a good while.

Could that impact the title race?

Oh, and don't forget Nottingham Forest, who are now ten points back.

  13. Slot to serve touchline ban for red cardpublished at 07:34 Greenwich Mean Time

Slot's dismissal means he will serve a one-match touchline ban for Liverpool's Premier League match against Wolves on Sunday (14:00 GMT) at Anfield.

  14. Why was Slot sent off?published at 07:29 Greenwich Mean Time

Right, it's not entirely clear why Slot was sent off but let's start with what we know.

    • Slot was angry that his side had just missed the chance to go nine points clear at the top of the table by dropping two points
    • Slot was unhappy with the amount of injury time played, with Tarkowski's goal coming in the 98th minute
    • After the full-time whistle, Slot approached referee Michael Oliver and exchanged a few words with the official
    • Slot, in scenes reminiscent of *that* handshake between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte in 2022, shook Oliver's hand for an uncomfortably long time and was then shown a red card

  15. Doucoure, Jones, Slot and Hulshoff see redpublished at 07:21 Greenwich Mean Time

It was inevitable that tempers would boil over given the nature of Everton's equaliser and the ensuing bedlam.

But four red cards after the final whistle? That's some going.

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure irked Liverpool counterpart Curtis Jones by appearing to celebrate the last-gasp draw in front of the away fans.

Jones shoved Doucoure, and a brawl quickly started between the two sets of players. Both players were given reds *after* the final whistle for their part in the flare-ups.

But referee Michael Oliver wasn't finished there as he sent off Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff.

  16. 'The old stadium rocked'published at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time

    Everton 2-2 Liverpool

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

From a final Goodison Park derby that looked like ending in disappointing defeat, Everton showed the revived spirit and character brought by the return of David Moyes as manager to provide a climax of genuine sporting theatre.

Everton's fans exploded with joy when James Tarkowski fired an unstoppable shot high past Alisson in the 98th minute - but the celebrations were put on hold for what seemed like an age as checks were carried out for offside and a foul on Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

The old stadium rocked when the goal was confirmed and Everton emerged with real honour and credit, having made sure they did not end derby games at Goodison on a losing note.

The brawl after the final whistle was unsavoury, Abdoulaye Doucoure needlessly goading Liverpool's fans to the fury of Curtis Jones, but all the fire and fury of a remarkable evening encapsulated what Goodison Park is about.

Moyes has rejuvenated Everton - Beto in particular, with the striker showing a composure rarely seen previously - and they even overcame the first-half loss of key man Iliman Ndiaye to injury.

The manner in which Everton pushed Liverpool all the way, then claimed a point, was the sort of performance Goodison Park deserved and was another example of their improvement under Moyes.

  17. Everton - and Goodison - deliver for historic Merseyside derbypublished at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time

Goodison Park was never going to bow out quietly, was it?

Storm Darragh may have forced December's original date to be rearranged but Everton brought a storm of their own last night.

Liverpool were seconds from going nine points clear at the top, while Everton fans would have to deal with the ignominy of losing the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Up popped Tarkowski, with an equaliser that brought bedlam on and off the pitch.
