It's massive for Villa. They needed the three points. The game went from end to end, we weren't sure which way it was going to go. With the players they have got, they have got to be winning games against Crystal Palace. No disrespect to Crystal Palace, who had a competitive game today. Villa had to win today and they did everything they could and in their power. Ultimately it was Robert de Pauw's sub who got the goal.

Why VAR is needed in the WSL, that challenge was clearly outside the area. Refereeing in the women's game isn't up to standard (different reasons why it's not up to standard in the men's game).

    HT: Everton 1-0 Liverpool

As Emma just said it was a rather bland game up until that penalty for Everton.

The home side were keen to sit and hit Liverpool on the counter, as shown by the average position map below, and given the visitors' sloppiness on the ball it did prove effective on a number of occasions.

There's been very little goalmouth action so far but we did get a goal, and how crucial could that prove to be for Everton's season?

What a phenomenal finish from Ebony Salmon. She gets the ball on the edge of the box, takes one touch, two touch and just whips it into the top of the net. The keeper couldn't do anything about that.

    Ebony Salmon (90+4 Mins)

Right at the death, Villa have won it!!

The home side come forward and substitute Ebony Salmon collects with her back to goal on the edge of the box.

She produces a brilliant turn and bang! Fires a shot into the top corner.

A goal good enough to win any game.

Crystal Palace are slowing things down. Everything is going their way. From the position they were in I think they will be happy with a 2-2 draw. It's two points lost for Villa in my opinion.

Palace have a throw, and they're in no rush to take it.

According to Opta, 41% of the action has been in the Crystal Palace third over the last 15 minutes.

Villa have possession, but they can't break down the wall of yellow in front of them. Two minutes to go.

Straight from the restart Villa go on the attack.

But the Palace players are enthused again, they've got something to defend. They're first to a second ball to get the home crowd groaning.

What a fantastic goal. It was a brilliant ball in and Blanchard who has been Palace's most dangerous player just follows the ball in, doesn't give it up and neatly volleys the ball into the back of the net. You have to question the marking. It's not good enough for Villa at the back. We said at 2-1 Palace were always in this game.

It was also going to happen, wasn't it?

Aston Villa don't get that crucial two-goal lead and Crystal Palace, with one of their few attacks, level late on.

It's all thanks to substitute Ashleigh Weerden's fine cross from the left, inch-perfect for Annabel Blanchard who volleys home.
