Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already been in front of the media today before his side take on Tottenham on Sunday. He was hugely positive about Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou and his style of play. Here are some of his best lines from his conference:

    • On Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate: "These are the two still in red, so they do not train with us at the moment."
    • On Postecoglou: "For me his brand of football is more important and if he can combine it with winning something that would be so good for football in general because then people can stop talking about 'is it too attacking?' How on earth can you play too much attacking football?"
    • On Spurs: "I think it is a privilege to be a season ticket holder at Tottenham"
    • On Trent Alexander-Arnold wanting to be the best right-back in the world: "I like this in a player, this is something every player must have if you want to play at this level."

I for one think that Ivan Juric is a fantastic hiring as manager for Southampton. It keeps Danny Rohl at Wednesday for a little bit longer and that's a very good Christmas present for us Owls.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Aston Villa's good form across Premier League and Champions League: "I'm not surprised. Top, excellent manager. [They had good success] qualifying for the Champions League and the results in the Champions League they speak for themselves. They are handling it well because when I have been in many clubs handling both competitions, they have done really well."

  4. 'I want my players back'published at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Man City (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also spoke on the transfer window: "Leave? I don't think so."

And on if he will tell players he doesn't want them in his squad if bad results continue: "I don't know, that will be at the end of the season. At the end of the season we will see the situation. What I want is my players back [from injury]. My feeling is the squad is really good, it is not if they are good or bad players.

"We lost two important figures for a while. We want players back and then after what happens in the winter and what happens at the end of the season the club and myself will decide what is best for the team"

  5. 'Stones is an important player to us'published at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on John Stones: "Of course it is important he is back and at his best. When you are injured for three or four weeks you need time to get back to your best but of course he is important. An important player for us for many years. "

And on reflecting on tough times in his past to help him now: "I handle the good moments, I handle good the bad moments. I have bad ones in my career as a manager but we were able to come back and now it takes longer.

"I take experience with that. I have had 40 days of bad days in terms of results, that is the truth when you compare to eight years which is much better. There has been eight years of incredible [results] and now we have 40-45 days of [bad results]."

  6. 'The past is the past'published at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Man City (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also added on if there was anything from previous meetings with Villa that they could bring to this game: "When they came back here we beat them 4-1, you have to analyse all the times we drop or lose points?

"We win more than lose. Of course we lose there, they were better by far, they came here we were better. Why do you have to compare what happened there? The past is the past, this is a new moment, you have to deal with it."

  7. 'Akanji in training' & Dias injured against Unitedpublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Man City (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was also asked if having no midweek game has helped the players reset: "That is obvious, we have to start again. Even when we win many, many games in a row we don't know what is going to happen. Of course we have to try it again and sooner or later it will turn around."

And on Ruben Dias's injury: "[He will be out for] three or four weeks. It was a muscular injury, [after] 75 minutes against Manchester United he felt something. He is so strong and he stayed on the pitch and now he is injured."

And on other injury news: "[Manuel] Akanji is back training the last two days which is good for us."

  10. 'I am a normal person with feelings'published at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time

Aston Villa v Man City (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has faced the press before his club play Aston Villa on Saturday. He was first asked about his mood post Manchester derby: "I just finished a game where we were close to winning and we lost. For the sequences that happened I was not happy. I tried to be honest with myself here right now in six or seven days ago, if you fall down six times you have to stand up seven.

"I am fine. I am a normal person with feelings like all of us. When a situation is going well we are better and when it is not going well professionally we are more [focused] on what we have to do."

As long as Ivan Juric can steady the ship, get at least eight more points to avoid Derby's record then that's the first hurdle done. IF he can pull off the GREAT escape then that is a bonus.

The last time Pep Guardiola spoke to the media he was so down and dispirited after the Manchester derby, it seemed genuinely possible he was about to walk away.

No-one actually thought it was going to happen but the mood was so downcast that was how the feeling transmitted itself.

Guardiola will speak to the media shortly (12:30 GMT) to assess how he intends to break the cycle of one win in 11 games.

  14. Best lines from Howe and Van Nistelrooypublished at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time

Ruud van NistelrooyImage source, Getty Images

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe spoke before his team took on Ipswich and Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy faced press before his club's match against Wolves.

Here are some of their best lines:

    • Howe on Joelinton: "He had a cut mouth, so I think, probably, with him not available this weekend, it's probably a good thing for him because it allows him to rest those bruises and wounds and then hopefully be fit for the week after."
    • Howe reacting to their EFL Cup semi-final draw: "I think we were guaranteed a tough game, whoever we got. I watched it with interest last night, I thought the game [Tottenham v Man Utd] was an unbelievable game to watch.
    • Van Nistelrooy on Harry Winks: "Harry this week was fully part of team training so he is available for selection again which is very positive news for the squad."
  15. Gray handling role 'brilliantly'published at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

    Archie GrayImage source, Getty Images

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on Archie Gray: "I said last week, I think he's been outstanding, we have no choice, we have no other centre-backs so you put an 18-year-old there and he's handled it brilliantly, both from a footballing perspective but also, if you do it for one game you can sort of get away with it, you put a young player out of position one game but he's done it multiple games against pretty decent oppositions.

"Like I said as an 18-year-old he's handling it so well and it's not like he's surrounded by experience, obviously goalkeeper is out, two centre-backs are out, a left-back was out last night so him and Radu [Dragusin] are handling it awfully well. I keep saying you take out the goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a left-back from any team and I'm sure it'll have an effect and the fact that our guys are still trying to play in the manner we want to play. It's a credit to them."

Where has all this noise about Spurs collapsing and throwing away leads come from? They've played 25 games in all competitions this season - on two occasions they've lost after taking the lead, and in three games they've gone on to draw after going ahead. That's 1/5 of their games - hardly a recurring theme.

  17. Werner and Udogie updatepublished at 12:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on team news: "Hopefully, we'll see. The boys are just coming in now from a late night. Timo [Werner] was unwell yesterday, we've got 48 hours before the game so hopefully he will recover and the plan is Destiny [Udogie] should be okay."

  18. Liverpool are a 'stand out' sidepublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on Liverpool: "We'll play our football because that's what's winning us games and that's what we will do against Liverpool, who are a fantastic side, go really well.

"Arne has come in and it is not easy when you are taking over from somebody with the status of Jurgen Klopp but you know they're very settled as a team, they've got quality within the starting XI. They've dealt with things, you know last week, they were a man down, they've got real belief at the moment.

"They are the stand out team in the competition so far. But again, on our day when we play our football we're a pretty good opposition."

Southampton fan. Juric appointment has all the hallmarks of Nathan Jones Mk.II. Another panic decision by a board that can't stick to a strategy. They're not evil or awful, just inexperienced and naive. They've invested, but they're inconsistent. Better situation than we've had before, but we're going nowhere fast and with or without Juric it's championship for us next year.

Ange Postecoglou claps fansImage source, Getty Images

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on his "are you not entertained?" comment on Sky Sports on Thursday night: "I genuinely believe that, I think a big part of our game is about, maybe entertainment is the wrong word but, the game of football is about feel emotions that maybe in your day to day existence you don't get the opportunity to, both exhilarating and both anxious. Football, that's what we love about it. I said before, there's a lot of suffering in there when you're watching a football game, but if you come out of the right side, it's an exhilarating feeling."
