    Newcastle United

So, I'd like to think we're building some momentum but proof will be in what we deliver on Saturday."

  2. Ipswich 'really competitive team'published at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time

Ipswich Town v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Ipswich: "We know Portman Road, and Ipswich is a difficult game, they are a really competitive team.

"I think Kieran [McKenna] has done an unbelievable job there and even the games they've lost this season, they've been in all those games, very tight matches, very competitive team as I've said.

"So we're going to have to be hyper-alert to be ready for the match."

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Joelinton: "He's OK, he's just a bit battered and bruised, yesterday he had a few stitches I believe, around the area of his ear, which was quite delicate.

"He had a cut mouth, so I think, probably, with him not available this weekend, it's probably a good thing for him because it allows him to rest those bruises and wounds and then hopefully be fit for the week after."

  4. Howe 'focused' on Ipswichpublished at 10:03 Greenwich Mean Time

Ipswich Town v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on the second leg of the EFL Cup at St James' Park: "Probably would yeah [want to have the second leg at home], I don't think there is a whole lot in it but I think that probably would have been our preference but I think any game against Arsenal is difficult, home or away but as I have said, we've had some good competitive games, I think they've been really tight, so I think that's something on the horizon for us to really look forward to.

"But that's in the background of my mind, the focus very, very quickly is Ipswich. We've prepared for the game and we're looking forward to it."

  5. 'The quality is very high' - Howe on EFL Cup semi-finalspublished at 09:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe reacting to their EFL Cup semi-final draw: "I think we were guaranteed a tough game, whoever we got. I watched it with interest last night, I thought the game [Tottenham v Man Utd] was an unbelievable game to watch.

"I think when you get to this stage of the competition, you know the quality is very high. We play Arsenal and we've had some good games against them in the last couple of years, so I look forward to that."

  6. Injury update - Bradley & Konate still outpublished at 09:55 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate: "These are the two still in red, so they do not train with us at the moment. They are on their way back but they don't train with the team yet.

"It is quite difficult [to predict when they will return]. Let's wait and see but we have a very good rehab personnel over here and they have done good work already with Alisson and a few others.

"The main thing is if they come back they are ready to come back and we must not focus on one, two or three games. It is more important in the long-term they are fit afterwards."

  7. 'Every player must have Trent's ambition'published at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Trent Alexander-Arnold's ambition to become the best right-back: "I like this in a player, this is something every player must have if you want to play at this level.

"If you don't have this you probably don't play at this level. As long as they understand they need the team to be special as an individual, as long as they put the team first and as a result of that be special themselves. That is what they all do, including Trent.

"They want to be the best. If that is not what you have I think it is so hard to put the effort in, to stay fit, to be good every three days because you see them during the game and think 'what a life these players have'.

"That is true they have a great life but they have to put a lot of work in to be able to be at their best every three days."

  8. 'We put in a lot of effort in pre-season'published at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the team's fitness with a lot of fixtures in the schedule: "I think this has been like this for all the time I have worked here.

"We put in a lot of effort in pre-season, although a lot were not there but we also gave those players [a number of] days off.

"I have to give compliments to the performance staff because I fully trust them, they have managed the players well.

"There is still a long way to go and a lot of games to be played. We are only missing two players on the training ground today which is a positive thing."

  9. 'Chiesa is getting stronger'published at 09:41 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Harvey Elliott: "Every time a player comes back from injury and is available it is a boost for the team because it has shown now that we need every player.

"You saw this in the Fulham game, the way Diogo [Jota] came in, the way Harvey came in and Darwin [Nunez] with an assist as well."

On Federico Chiesa: "You see him on the pitch now he is getting stronger and he is getting better. He had to adapt for quite a long time, as expected if you miss team training sessions for so long and then you go to a league and team with the intensity so high as well.

"He is getting stronger but he is also facing a lot of competition in the right wing position."

  10. 'It is a privilege to be a season ticket holder at Tottenham'published at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on what to expect from Spurs: "They are consistent in their playing style and what they want. They can be unlucky as well, what happened yesterday they dominated the game. They always like to attack, he [Ange Postecoglou] plays always with three attackers, two attacking midfielders and his full-backs join the attack so much.

"People say 'why do you bring the ball out from the back' because they lost the ball and the second one the goalkeeper kicked it away.

"But I think it is a privilege to be a season ticket holder at Tottenham, to be a fan of them at the moment because they play such a great style."

  11. Spurs 'depleted with youngsters'published at 09:34 Greenwich Mean Time

    Tottenham 4-3 Man Utd

    Michael Brown
Former Tottenham midfielder on the Football Daily podcast

I've witnessed it before, I've been in that Spurs shirt, 3-nil up against 10 men and lost 4-3.

Obviously they were very, very light, let's be honest, on the bench and when Manchester United were able to make lots of changes, Ange's side were depleted with youngsters.

  12. 'Don't judge league table until halfway through'published at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the club's league position: "As I have said for the last three or four months, judge the table after 19 games because then everyone has played the same opponents.

"Probably we had a bit of luck, for example Arsenal had a lot of red cards in the beginning of the season that's why they dropped points.

"We have now received a red card and we dropped points. We now have Tottenham away which Arsenal had at the beginning of the season, Chelsea already played there.

"Don't look at it where you were in the season it is about where you are at the end of the season."

  13. 'I hope Ange wins a trophy'published at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Ange Postecoglou: "I hope, hope, hope he wins a trophy. Not the League Cup but I am completely a fan of his team for the Europa League. People talk about trophies, trophies, trophies and that is so important. For me his brand of football is more important and if he can combine it with winning something that would be so good for football in general because then people can stop talking about 'is it too attacking?' How on earth can you play too much attacking football?"

  14. 'Postecoglou gives them that identity back completely'published at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the EFL Cup draw for the semi-finals, with his side drawing Tottenham: "Interesting game but every draw would have been interesting because, I don't know if it is always the situation in England, but four top teams are still in the draw so there was not an easy one."

On Tottenham's style of play: "I really have to give them credit, if I look at Tottenham, I come from the Netherlands but I watched a lot of Match of the Day. You think of Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle, Gareth Bale. They have always been a certain brand of football for me and a certain identity and Ange Postecoglou gives them that identity back completely.

"Every time it is a joy to watch them, once in a while the results go against them but I think they are one of the teams to beat City."

  15. Postpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time

Tottenham v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says he hopes Ange Postecoglou wins a trophy at Tottenham, but not the EFL Cup, given both sides play each other in the semi-finals.

How nice! Full quotes to come.

If people are questioning Son's goal from the corner, then take a look at the goals Arsenal are scoring from corners. At least half, if not more, involve pulling or blocking defenders and goalkeepers. They are getting away with some very dodgy goals.

As a number two goalkeeper, you get your opportunity in cup games. And the one thing about goalkeeping is, you cannot go onto the pitch with the idea of showing the manager you're a good goalkeeper

The job is simply stopping the ball from going into the net.

It's a tough job to be the second goalkeeper. All the pressure of actually playing.

The art of goalkeeping – when you make a mistake, you have to be someone else in the next second, someone that did not make that mistake. That's what you have to tell yourself. If you think about that mistake, if that plays into your mind in any part of the next second, then you will make the next mistake.

You have to have the ability to forget about that mistake.

All this talk about Bayindir having a poor performance. He pushed a long-range shot back into the danger zone (defenders did not react) and was clearly impeded for the fourth (let's not kid ourselves otherwise).
