Andy Robertson is a good guy, he’s a great leader. A good example to the rest of the players and that’s really important if you want a good group and everybody working together.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game last night and I think anybody who’s a neutral would have enjoyed it as well, it was very much end to end stuff.

  4. 'Little lessons' for NI after Luxembourg draw - O'Neillpublished at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Michael O'Neill says his Northern Ireland side will learn from letting a two-goal lead slip in Luxembourg.

Goals by Isaac Price and Conor Bradley were cancelled out by Seid Korac and Gerson Rodrigues but Northern Ireland held on for the point they needed to earn promotion to League B in the Nations League.

Despite Luxembourg's fightback, O'Neill said he was "really pleased" with the performance as Northern Ireland dominated the game before the hosts struck.

"If you take the scoreline out of the situation, I thought some of our play was terrific," he told BBC Sport NI.

"Look at 2-0 and you are comfortable and think you are going to see the game out. We had chances to add to it but we didn't."

    Seen this one?

San Marino, the world's bottom ranked team, made history as they were promoted to the third tier of the Nations League with the first away win in their history - against Liechtenstein.

It was also the first time they scored more than once in a competitive game and the first time they had scored three goals in any match.

The minnows' two previous victories also came against Liechtenstein - a friendly in 2004 and a Nations League game in September, both 1-0 and both in San Marino.

The country ranked 210th in the Fifa world rankings have lost 199 of the 211 fixtures they have contested. They have conceded 10 or more goals in seven games.

"Clarke's change of system has brought more freedom," former Scotland midfielder John Collins said on BBC Sportsound.

"The players look more comfortable in possession and they have more options in front of them. John Souttar looks like an international centre-back now and Doak has given us pace, power and penetration."

Meanwhile, ex-Scotland forward James McFadden added: "We don't have strikers who will score every game, but we have a manager who will find a way to get the best out of players.

"He's built a really strong squad and we can look forward to World Cup qualifying now regardless of our group."

  13. Shaw, Mainoo and Yoro close to Man Utd return?published at 08:33 Greenwich Mean Time

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Late last night Manchester United released some training ground footage of Ruben Amorim's first training session since he took over as head coach.

Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and new signing Leny Yoro were all involved, which has to be viewed as a positive.

With a full week to go virtually before Sunday's trip to Ipswich, there has to be a good chance the trio will at least be involved at Portman Road.

Shaw has not featured for United since February, Mainoo's last game was at Aston Villa on 6 October and Yoro is still to make his debut since his £52m move from Lille in the summer.

  18. 'Clarke will always find a way'published at 08:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    Poland 1-2 Scotland

Steve Clarke looks onImage source, Getty Images

In the face of the media, at least, it is probably just as well Clarke does not get too high or too low given this is not the first time he has been in this situation.

Post-match in Warsaw, he said the dramatic win was "just another step on the journey" as he eyes a third major tournament.

The former West Brom boss was the standout candidate for most when he was appointed back in 2019 because of his fine work at Kilmarnock.

But a tough opening to his tenure, which included two heavy defeats by Belgium and four-goal loss in Russia, quelled optimism.

In the following months, however, an identity emerged after a shift to a back three, with the bold selection of Scott McTominay on the right of defence.

It paid off as a nine-game unbeaten run followed, as did qualification for the delayed Euro 2020 finals - Scotland's first major tournament in more than two decades.
