San Marino recorded their biggest competitive victory in their history with a 3-1 win in Liechtenstein last night to secure promotion in the Uefa Nations League.

The stats from Opta show that they were very much the dominant side, having an expected goals total of 2.49 compared to Liechtenstein's 0.69.

They mustered 16 shots, and five on target. In contrast, Liechtenstein had 13 shots and three on target.

Despite their chances and goals, San Marino only had 43% possession.

Steve Clarke had a lot in the bank anyway because he’s taken us to the last couple of tournaments where we haven’t been for so long but I think these two victories have really, really helped.

There’s a scenario where we could go into pot two of the Nations League play-offs, so watch closely on Tuesday night and hope that the Czech Republic fail to beat Georgia or Estonia get at least a point against Slovakia.

It’s a matter of just waiting to see now who we draw, the second leg being at home is a real plus.

Ben Doak is hugely exciting, he really is.

Scotland haven’t had a world class player for a long, long time. I know he’s just a young boy, but when you’ve got the sheer pace that he has and the good decision making which will only improve you can’t help but be excited.

I know Steve Clarke is trying to play it down, but I’m pretty sure he’s quite excited about it as well.

I think that’s the benefit of being 18 years of age, you just have that excitement of being there and playing.

I think the first thought is ‘I’m going to enjoy myself’ and every-time he gets the ball, he tries to run at defenders and defenders don’t like that sort of thing, its uncomfortable.

Trust me I’ve been there myself, especially somebody with a pace that he’s got. It’s just so exciting as a Scottish supporter to watch him.

Andy Robertson is a good guy, he’s a great leader. A good example to the rest of the players and that’s really important if you want a good group and everybody working together.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game last night and I think anybody who’s a neutral would have enjoyed it as well, it was very much end to end stuff.

  19. 'Little lessons' for NI after Luxembourg draw - O'Neillpublished at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Michael O'Neill says his Northern Ireland side will learn from letting a two-goal lead slip in Luxembourg.

Goals by Isaac Price and Conor Bradley were cancelled out by Seid Korac and Gerson Rodrigues but Northern Ireland held on for the point they needed to earn promotion to League B in the Nations League.

Despite Luxembourg's fightback, O'Neill said he was "really pleased" with the performance as Northern Ireland dominated the game before the hosts struck.

"If you take the scoreline out of the situation, I thought some of our play was terrific," he told BBC Sport NI.

"Look at 2-0 and you are comfortable and think you are going to see the game out. We had chances to add to it but we didn't."
