It's only four games into the new season for Blackpool and Plymouth Argyle but it already feels like the pressure is mounting for bosses Steve Bruce and Tom Cleverley to produce some results.

In pre-season, the 64-year-old Bruce said he was aiming for the play-offs but the Tangerines have only managed one win and three points from their opening four league games.

"It becomes a little bit embarrassing," Bruce told BBC Radio Lancashire after their 2-0 defeat by Mansfield Town on Tuesday.

"I've been in it (the football industry) for a very long time and I don't think I've been involved where we can't defend a simple corner... it's certainly our Achilles heel at the moment."

Argyle's start has been even worse, with not a single point to their name. Only Peterborough United have a similar record in League One, but the Posh weren't a Championship club last season.

Plymouth fans have not been slow to vent their frustration and new boss Cleverley is in desperate need of a positive result, starting with the visit of Bruce's Blackpool.

  2. Revell's 'strong' Stevenage face Terriers challengepublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 August

    Huddersfield v Stevenage (15:00 BST)

    Media caption,

Lee Grant discusses squad rotation, early pacesetters Stevenage, and possible outgoings.

It's been a 100% perfect start for Stevenage. Their winning record is unblemished but today's opponents will be their toughest test so far.

Huddersfield may have had a rough end to their season during their last campaign, but only a dramatic loss to Blackpool last weekend has tarnished their return to winning ways this season. They also made an impact in the EFL Cup by knocking out Championship side Leicester City.

It's clear manager Lee Grant is having a positive effect, having joined at the conclusion of last season, but the former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper also believes that Stevenage boss Alex Revell is playing his own role in their success.

"I'm certain [Revell's] character and demeanour will have rubbed off on to his squad, which I believe is part of the reason why they are where they are.

"He has a great energy around him and strong personality as well, so we feel as though Stevenage are going to carry that strong personality as a group and they've proved it."

  3. Exciting starters, main course coming uppublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 23 August

OK, now we can breathe, but only for a moment.

Cardiff went top of League One courtesy of a 1-0 away win at Luton, and a late equaliser at Rotherham gave Wigan a share of the spoils.

In League Two, MK Dons went second in the table after beating Newport County, and Walsall took three points against Salford, ending their three-win run.

But don't go anywhere...we've got 20 more matches coming up at 15:00 BST.

  4. Morecambe score late to secure dream winpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 23 August

    Daniel Austin
BBC Sport at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium

Morecambe have secured a stunning late winner on their return to action!

Substitute Daniel Ogwuru finishes off a rip-roaring counterattack with an arrowed finish into the far corner, eight minutes into stoppage time.

The Shrimps were holding on at the other end but have founded a stupefying way to surely take the three points.

It is bouncing in here now.

  5. 'A lot of positives to take'published at 14:29 British Summer Time 23 August

    FT: Luton 0-1 Cardiff

    Leon Barnett
Former Luton defender on BBC Three Counties Radio

I actually think it was a good performance.

There are a lot of positives to take from it, some good individual performances, Ali on the wing especially.

The keeper, Trott, for Cardiff, was excellent; he kept them in it.

It's a great opportunity for us, they're one of the best teams we've played or will play in this division.

  6. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 23 August

    Newport 1-2 MK Dons

MK Dons move up to second place, at least for now, as they come from behind in what proves to be a tale of two penalties.

The home side got the perfect start after six minutes as visiting goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray palmed Habeeb Ogunneye's shot from a narrow angle into his own net.

Alex Gilbey had an effort cleared off the line and MacGillivray denied Michael Reindorf before the visitors levelled from the spot on the stroke of half-time - Jack Sanders going down in the area and Nat Mendez-Laing converting the penalty,

Calum Patterson nodded MK Dons in front just after the break for his third goal of the season before Newport were handed, literally, a chance to take a point.

Luke Offord handled the ball in the box but Bobby Kamwa hit the post with his penalty kick.

Anthony Glennon hammered a decent chance over the bar with the last kick of the game but Newport's wait for a first home league win since 15 March goes on while MK Dons remain unbeaten under boss Paul Warne.

  7. 'We got the job done'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 23 August

    FT: Walsall 1-0 Salford City

    Dan Cox
Defender for Walsall on BBC Radio WM

We showed resiliency and got a big three points.

I think we'll be looking to get more goals and make it more comfortable later on. With Daniel and Albert, we can cause chaos even with them all over us.

We got the job done, and that's the most important thing.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 23 August

    Rotherham 2-2 Wigan

Substitute Paul Mullin ensures Wigan share the points with Rotherham in a close encounter.

Rotherham debutant Martin Sherif came close to scoring a double but he will have to settle for the one goal after his late strike went above the bar.

Promising signs from the Millers' new signing but today, Wigan proved too tough to beat.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 23 August

    Luton 0-1 Cardiff

High-quality moments from goal scorer Chris Willock and keeper Nathan Trott see the Bluebirds take home three points and go top of the table (at least, for now!).

Willock's dancing between Luton's defence was deftly done to put himself in a position to net the first and only goal of the night.

But Cardiff's thanks will be extended to stopper Trott, who was Luton's nemesis no matter how good the strike. He's rewarded with a clean sheet and a trip back to Wales on a winning bus.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 23 August

    Walsall 1-0 Salford

The whistle goes, and Walsall are back to winning ways!

Mat Sadler's side looked the most convincing in the first half, especially when they took the lead thanks to Harrison Burke's bullet header just after 30 minutes.

But Salford weren't ready to roll over, and started the second half with a point to prove.

The affair ended about as end-to-end as you could get, with Matthew Young pulling off some brilliant saves to keep Salford in the match.

But Walsall held on the keep all three points.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 23 August

    Newport 1-2 MK Dons

Scott Hogan's appearance was brief as the substitute is substituted because of an injury. On comes Jonathan Leko.

Anthony Glennon is introduced by Newport in place of Tom Davies.

This has looked over for a while despite there only being one goal in it.

  15. 'It's a free header'published at 14:20 British Summer Time 23 August

    Rotherham 2-2 Wigan

    Ronnie Moore
Ex-Rotherham manager on BBC Radio Sheffield

In a tight game, that could win or lose you a game, a player has slept there, and you can't allow that.

It's a free header for him. The way the goal has gone in is poor, it's organisation.

  16. INJURY TIMEpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 23 August

    Walsall 1-0 Salford

Three minutes added on. Salford need something special now.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 23 August

    Newport 1-2 MK Dons

Tom Davies hauls down the visitors' substitute Scott Hogan.

It's a simple yellow card as Davies wrestles Hogan to the floor.

This is ebbing away for the home side.
