Chanasanakepit: Great match! United really wasted their chances. Should have been 4 or 5 up in the first half. Kobbie Mainoo has been great for united so far. Keep it up.

Wolves 3-4 Manchester United: Gary O'Neil gutted but proud after last-gasp defeat

Wolves Gary O'Neil: "I was proud of what they produced. Effort, quality, togetherness. Bundles of it. Disappointed with some of it.

"First half got away from us and didn't stick with what we were trying to do. Second half I think we were great and we dominated. Just a couple of details really.

"The corner goal is disappointing and then to concede from the throw-in at the end, that's not how we defend from a throw-in.

"We look a really good side at times and we just need to keep trying to improve and we don't have long to dust ourselves down for the next one."

An anonymous first half, a rousing second period - and a chaotic conclusion. This was ultimately a sickener for Wolves.

They would have moved above United with victory here, but instead fell to their first home defeat in nine league matches since losing to Liverpool on 16 September.

Having been fortunate to still be in the contest following a one-sided first half, they improved following the break as Lisandro Martinez cleared off the line.

Andre Onana then denied Craig Dawson's deflected effort, making an unconventional save with the side of his face.

But Gary O'Neil continues to endure a poor record against United in his coaching career, now having lost all four of his meetings without his team scoring.

Wolves' loss at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season was dramatic enough - but this was on another level.

Wolves 3-4 Manchester United: Red Devils should have managed game better says Erik ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag: "To be honest, I had mixed feelings. One side very pleased, of course it's a massive win this. I think for a neutral fan, spectator of this game, it was great to see but as a manager when you see you dominate a game for an hour, you should go 3 or 4-0 by the hour, because we had the chances and we conceded nothing.

"But then the way we concede the goals we should manage that better on the pitch, this can't happen. But then you see the spirit of the team and the resilience and especially in Kobbie Mainoo, that is great to see.

"We have the right character, the spirit in the dressing room is very good when you can show this."

Jfrezno23: Relieved we won but that game should’ve been over by half time. Once again not taking our chances and giving away cheap goals when we go ahead. Also, how was that a penalty when Chelsea had two clearer penalties at Anfield on Wednesday?

When Manchester United eased two goals ahead at Wolves, this game looked done. After all, the past 10 meetings had produced just 11 goals.

But this game alone had seven goals in store, and while United did leave with three points it was far less comfortable than it should have been.

They were totally in control at half time but conceded control slowly but surely to Wolves, managing the game dreadfully in the second half.

It was summed up by Pedro Neto's goal to make it 3-3 - scored on the break as United foolishly sought threw men forwards for a fourth of their own.

United have now conceded two or more goals in five consecutive league games for the first time since November 1977.

The saving grace came in the form of Kobbie Mainoo, on a night when another academy product, Marcus Rashford, seemed certain to be the headline act.

Kobbie Mainoo is the latest teenage star to come through the Manchester United ranks and burst on to the Premier League stage.

Four of the last five 90th-minute winning goals in the Premier League by players aged 18 or younger have been for United: Federico Macheda in 2009, Marcus Rashford in 2016, Alejandro Garnacho in 2022 and now Mainoo.

Wolves 3-4 Manchester United: Dream come true for Kobbie Mainoo says Bruno Fernandes

Kobbie Mainoo reflected on his match-winner against Wolves and said: "It's a dream come true."

"I have still not come down from it. I still feel like I am dreaming to be honest," he added to TNT Sports.

"To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club has been amazing. Now it's about trying to win more games."

This was Mainoo's 11th senior appearance for United, with his previous games seeing him being quietly impressive in central midfield.

But this was something else entirely. This was a young man dragging his stricken comrades from the floor with a spark of individual brilliance to grab a win which United seemed to have thrown away.

Seconds after Pedro Neto had equalised for the hosts, Mainoo picked the ball up 35 yards from goal. He beat one defender, nutmegged Wolves captain Max Kilman, cut on to his right foot and curled a beautiful low finish past Jose Sa.

Kobbie Mainoo's first Premier League goal was a 97th-minute winner for his childhood club Manchester United to seal an extraordinary victory.

United produced their best first half performance of the season at Molineux, where Marcus Rashford struck inside five minutes of his first match since last week's reported Belfast escapades.

The returning star then played a part in Rasmus Hojlund's bundled second, before United bounced back as substitute Scott McTominay scored shortly after Pablo Sarabia had converted a softly-awarded penalty.

But United wobbled and looked set to blow a much-needed win as Max Kilman scored before Pedro Neto equalised in stoppage time, only for Mainoo's moment of magic.

The 18-year-old showed skill and courage to take on the Wolves backline, before bending home to win it at the death and spark wild United celebrations.
