Liverpool only need a point to make sure of the title, and it is going to happen against Tottenham on Sunday.

There is an argument that Spurs, and Manchester United too, should go strong in these Premier League games to try to find the rhythm they have been lacking all season, and get the team playing the way we know they can to help them in their Europa League semi-finals.

But I don't see Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou doing that before his side play Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, and I can only see one outcome.

Liverpool have hardly been that sharp of late but they will be determined to win the title in front of their own fans for the first time in 35 years.

They were not able to do that when they last won the title in 2020 because of the Covid regulations at the time, so doing it now is a big deal for them.

I am expecting them to raise their game and blow Spurs away to get the job done.

Sutton's prediction: 4-1

With five games remaining, Liverpool have already won as many Premier League games this season as they did last term (24), while victory in this game would also see them equal their points tally from last season (82) with four games to go.

Tottenham have made eight changes to their starting XI - the most they've ever made from one Premier League game to another.

Liverpool are about to win the Premier League. That means, for the first time in 35 years, we will be able to properly celebrate the fact we are the champions - in stadiums, in bars and pubs, on the streets, with our mates.

It means Liverpool Football Club will remain the most successful club in English football, and can headline that with a record-equalling 20 league titles. It means everything to us and more.

When in the midst of these celebrations, we will not think about how it could have been different.

How maybe if the Reds had eased off the gas a little at the turn of the year - the time when most previous title winners suffered blips before our perceptions were warped by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City sides - things might feel a little more tense and exciting.

How maybe if the Reds were limping over the line after dropping a series of points - as I watched Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United sides do for years only to be bailed out by unlikely heroes such as Federico Macheda - we would be more consumed by the rush of blood.

Let me tell you, I am plenty consumed by Liverpool winning this league title.

Jurgen Klopp leaving was tense enough for me. I stared into the abyss and wondered how the unproven Arne Slot could possibly follow in such ginormous footsteps.

And then Slot just went about his business. Coaching his football team and winning games of football with such aplomb that every game at the start of the season felt exciting - like a rush of blood.

His team cemented themselves as the best in this country so early that we have held them to higher standards - similar to a City under Guardiola or a Ferguson United side.

The reality is, they will belong in that rarefied air.

They may well finish with 90-plus points and they will deserve all the acclaim we give them.

And we deserve all the celebrations we will allow for ourselves and each other - together.

Arne Slot was once linked with taking over at Tottenham but he ended up taking over as Liverpool manager and, ironically, could secure a 20th top-flight title for the Reds against Spurs.

The Dutchman's side need just a draw against the north Londoners at Anfield on Sunday to confirm themselves as champions for the first time since 2019-20 under Jurgen Klopp.

Slot was typically not "getting carried away at all" when he spoke to the media on Friday morning, but a point and a party is the least the fans will expect against a struggling Tottenham side who face a Europa League semi-final, first leg against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.

There was plenty of talk of a possible title and, unusually, reporters were asked to leave the training ground, which hosts the news conference, earlier than usual as there was filming taking place.

Interestingly, Slot was also questioned about stories in Portugal that Liverpool will have to pay Benfica 5m euros if striker Darwin Nunez starts another game for the Reds and whether this was playing a part in his team selection.

"It is completely new to me," said Slot.

"The last, last, last, last, thing [sporting director Richard Hughes] would do, I expect having worked with him for 10 months, is tell me: 'If you play him it would cost us this much.'

"I don't even know if it's true, yes or no, because we never talk about that. He never interferes with a line-up."

I'm with Ange Postecoglou there. As a child I supported *redacted Premier League team* but couldn't care less about them now.

In the build-up to this game, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was quizzed on his previous support of Liverpool.

The 59-year-old, who grew up in Australia as a refugee from Greece, was a fan of the Reds as a child.

"I'm an almost 60-year-old adult. I've gone past my boyhood crushes, so it's got no impact whatsoever," he said.

"I have great admiration for the football club. Yes, I supported it when I was younger, but that was 50-odd years ago, so we've well and truly moved on since then.

"You want to go there and compete against obviously a very good side - and compete well."

For the amazing job Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool, he actually only won the Premier League title once.

Arne Slot will have matched that in his first season in England.

"If you had asked Liverpool fans back in August would their team win the Premier League, most would have said no," says former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld.

Jurgen Klopp was always going to be the hardest of acts to follow as manager.

Liverpool supporters were understandably worried about the future when the charismatic German, whose force of personality and success gave him iconic status, announced in January 2024 he was leaving at the end of that season.

Who would undertake the seemingly impossible task of replacing Klopp? Would Liverpool tread water or even go backwards for a season or two while his successor settled into the job?

"Klopp was a sort of god who changed the club - not just on the pitch but the whole atmosphere," says Westerveld.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who had taken Bayer Leverkusen to the brink of a first Bundesliga title, was strongly linked with an Anfield return before announcing he was staying in Germany and that paved the way for Arne Slot's appointment.

"At that moment I didn't even think about Arne," adds fellow Dutchman Westerveld, who has remained friends with Slot since their playing days together at Sparta Rotterdam in 2007-08.

"Nobody in England knew an awful lot about him. Everybody who knows football said it was going to be a huge task and that this was an unknown coach who comes from the Netherlands."

Yet the transition from Klopp to Slot has been seamless, culminating in Liverpool needing just one more point to win the championship for a record-equalling 20th time.

With Liverpool on the verge of winning the title, supporters from Northern Ireland have been making their way across the Irish Sea hoping to see it clinched.

Many fans will have never witnessed the Reds win a league title as Covid-19 hampered celebrations in 2020, while the club's previous success was in 1990.

"Hopefully this will be a special event if we manage to win the league," said fan Stuart Plumpton.

BBC News NI has been speaking to fans travelling to Anfield by boat, plane, and car in the hope of watching their team win the league.

Aoife Lennon from Lisburn travelled to Liverpool on Friday night and said she would be spending the weekend enjoying the "buzz of the town".

If they win the league "there'll be a big party afterwards - it'll be a long weekend", she told BBC News NI.

"Honestly, it's been absolutely manic," said the Danny Claeys, whose pub sits on the doorstep of Liverpool's Anfield stadium.

The Sandon is among dozens gearing up for one of the city's biggest ever parties - the Reds winning their second Premier League title.

Arne Slot's side could clinch the trophy later with just a point against Tottenham, and for many fans, including Mr Claeys, it represents a chance to celebrate properly after Covid restrictions curtailed the revelry of winning the league in 2020.

"Last time we couldn't celebrate as much due to the pandemic and Scousers love celebrating, so there isn't much more you could ask for than to win it at home," the manager said.

"I've always supported Liverpool, but the fans make it for me.

"The Sandon has been here for years now and we've never had any issues because everyone's coming with the same mentality of just coming for the love of football and Liverpool."

Liverpool fans Abigail and Lewis were sitting at home when they won the title in the 2019-20 season - their first for 30 years.

They’re now getting ready to see their team win the league for just a second time in their lives.

"It’s just excitement," Abigail tells BBC Newsbeat.

"[In 2020] I was a uni student, living at home with my mum and dad - watching us win it on the couch during lockdown, just praying we get a moment to celebrate together."

They might still be a point away, but Lewis has no doubts about how today will go: "It’s so perfect we actually get to celebrate it together for the first time.

“It wasn’t deflating [in 2020], it was just a little 'meh' - this is the time to rewrite that."
