United have been favourites for this competition since the outset, not many teams can go toe to toe with a squad which cost over £1bn to assemble - form counts for nothing in cups, just look at LFC and Arsenal… a europa league trophy in their worst season ever is a hell of a result, even if they’re heavy favourites

Spurs now go there with a two-goal buffer, they know what they need to do, they can sit behind the ball.

They showed they can do that against Frankfurt a few weeks ago. They can use the pace on the counterattack like they did tonight, the front three were unbelievable.

They can do that again next week but keep men behind the ball and be weary of that counterattack.

So, I don't know if it's wishful thinking but I think it's easier going there in the second leg rather than the first leg.

A thick covering of snow greeted the Lazio team when they arrived at Bodo/Glimt's Aspmyra Stadium for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on 10 April.

The side play in Bodo, which is inside the Arctic Circle, but thankfully for Tottenham the BBC's weather app suggests those freezing temperatures will have eased by the time they land for the second leg of their semi-final.

The forecast is mixed, with light rain predicted and a gentle breeze, with a high of 9C and a low of 6C.

I had the same thought as Ange, Frankfurt was a 'fortress' etc but we managed to hold on. Bodo have a good home record however in the knock out stages the have previously played the home leg first. No one expected them to get this far, now the pressure is on them. They have to look for goals. Their goal last night had an element of fortune. The way Spurs have played in Europe recently, I believe that we will be in the final.

Spurs fans are an odd bunch. Two goal advantage and all the comments seem to be about how everyone is nervous, it'll be another Spursy result. How about getting behind the team and Ange and stop the pessimism for a change?

  7. 'It's fear of the position they are in'published at 10:11 British Summer Time 2 May

    Tottenham 3-1 Bodo/Glimt

    Andros Townsend
Former Tottenham midfielder on BBC Football Daily

On Tottenham appearing a different side in the second half compared to the first...

I just think it's fear of the position they are in. They are in the Europa League semi-final, they did the same thing against Frankfurt in the second leg last week - they were so good in the first half and because they got the lead.

They just sat behind the ball and said - you are not going to score against us and we are going to try and hit you on the counterattack.

Almost slipped into that tonight but unfortunately they didn't score on the counter attacks and they conceded a sucker punch at the other end which undone them.

  8. Beware Bodo/Glimt's formidable home recordpublished at 10:07 British Summer Time 2 May

    Tottenham 3-1 Bodo/Glimt

Bodo/Glimt have a formidable home record in European competition this season, winning nine of their 10 home matches across their Champions League qualifiers and Europa League matches.

Only Azerbaijan Premier League side FC Qarabag have beaten them on home turf during the current campaign - a 2-1 defeat inflicted during the league phase of the Europa League in November.

Is it the Arctic weather? The synthetic pitch? Whatever the reason, Bodo/Glimt have learned to make the most of their home advantage and will believe they can overturn their first-leg deficit against Spurs:

    • 23 Jul: 4-0 v Rigas Futbola Skola (Champions League qualifier)
    • 13 Aug: 4-1 v Jagiellonia (Champions League qualifier)
    • 20 Aug: 2-1 v Red Star Belgrade (Champions League qualifier)
    • 25 Sep: 3-2 v Porto (Europa League)
    • 07 Nov: 1-2 v FC Qarabag (Europa League)
    • 12 Jan: 2-1 v Besiktas (Europa League)
    • 23 Jan: 3-1 v Maccabi Tel Aviv (Europa League)
    • 20 Feb: 5-2 v FC Twente (Europa League play-off)
    • 06 Mar: 3-0 v Olympiakos (Europa League last-16)
    • 10 Apr: 2-0 v Lazio (Europa League quarter-finals)

Nobody expected this - Amorim on 3-0 win at Athletic Bilbao

Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim said he feels last night's win was the team's best result since he took charge in November, mainly because Athletic Bilbao were favourites.

"I think it's the best result because nobody expected this result, but you saw two games today," said Amorim.

"The first 25 minutes and then after the goal and the sending off, the game changed. That was a good thing, as was the second half - we tried to be cautious, we created chances, but the most important thing was the opponent didn't get many shots."

Despite being in the bottom half of the Premier League, the Portuguese boss also believes United can earn some silverware this season by winning the Europa League final in Bilbao.

"I know this is a different competition, but sometimes it's the context and the way we see things," he added. "We can win this competition, but in the Premier League we are suffering game after game. I try to manage both things, with some injuries, and sometimes it's hard, even for the players."

  12. Athletic get sympathy from rivals after red cardpublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 2 May

    Athletic Bilbao 0-3 Man Utd

After their match-turning red card last night, Athletic Bilbao have received some sympathy from their Basque derby rivals Real Sociedad.

The English language Twitter handle posted a Meme saying 'I know that feel bro'.

That's after Real had Jon Aramburu sent off in the second leg of their round of 16 tie at Old Trafford in March. At the time, United were 2-1 up through two Bruno Fernandes penalties and went on to win 4-1 (5-2 on aggregate).

However, United fans have pointed out on social media that Real's opener was also a penalty, and they have scored from spot-kicks in three of their last four meetings with United.

  13. 'Best that I've seen United under Amorim'published at 09:44 British Summer Time 2 May

    Athletic Bilbao 0-3 Man Utd

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The best that I have seen Manchester United play under Ruben Amorim.

They were excellent, granted they were playing against 10-men, but they still had to do a job.

Athletic Bilbao went to 10-men and from that point Manchester United completely controlled the game.

  14. Red card trend continues for Man United's opponentspublished at 09:41 British Summer Time 2 May

    Athletic Bilbao 0-3 Man United

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport Journalist

Manchester United have one foot in the final of the Europa League after beating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at the Basque Country yesterday. United were certainly helped with a red card to Bilbao defender Daniel Vivian as they scored twice within 10 minutes of the sending off to essentially kill the game.

However, with another red card being shown against a player facing Manchester United, Ruben Amorim and co. have had a sending off against them in the Round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final of the Europa League this season.

Let's have a look at who they are -

    • Jon Aramburu of Real Sociedad - second leg of the Round of 16
    • Corentin Tolisso of Lyon - second leg of the quarter-final
    • Daniel Vivian of Athletic Bilbao - first leg of the semi-final

37 goal involvements for Bruno Fernandes is absolutely ridiculous playing in that Man United team. He moans, throws his arms up, is over passionate at times, but I don't think anyone can deny he's World Class, even the millions of haters (which crazily includes Man United 'fans') would admit. Could you imagine the numbers he'd put up had he chose City over United!?

  17. How often have Man Utd conceded three at home this season?published at 09:29 British Summer Time 2 May

    Athletic Bilbao 0-3 Man Utd

Manchester United will take a three-goal lead back to Old Trafford.

But they have conceded three or more goals at home this season on six occasions.

Five of those games were Premier League defeats - to Liverpool (0-3), Tottenham (0-3), Nottingham Forest (2-3), Bournemouth (0-3) and Brighton (1-3).

The other occasion was the dramatic second leg against Lyon in the last round, when United won 5-4, although two of Lyon's goals were scored in extra-time before United made their thrilling fightback.

  18. An English clean-sweep?published at 09:23 British Summer Time 2 May

Never before have each of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League been won by clubs from the same country in the same season (albeit the latter is only in its fourth year).

But it could still happen for England this term, with teams in the semis of each competition.

The smallest chance is for Arsenal (12.1%, according to Opta), who lost 1-0 at home to Paris St-Germain in their Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

But Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea are all well on track to contest European finals.

Former Tottenham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't know how they [Tottenham fans] wouldn't be happy [with a trophy].

    The league is a write-off, it's gone.

But if they come away with a major European trophy this season and Champions League next season, then there's no way no one is not taking that.

It's just been so poor, losing 19 games in the league, it's terrible and Ange is fighting for his life to keep his job. But if you come away with silverware, it's huge.

  20. Final will not be switchedpublished at 09:16 British Summer Time 2 May

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

We know the drill by now.

Final venues are organised a long way in advance, the planning for them is huge and there is a whole hospitality eco-system to take into account.

So, while the 53,000-capacity San Mames stadium is dwarfed by 90,000 at Wembley, I have spoken to UEFA officials this morning who have confirmed there is no chance of the Europa League final on 21 May being switched to London at short notice if Tottenham play Manchester United.
