Manchester United's evening only got better after Harry Maguire's moment of magic.

Just seven minutes later, after a review by the video assistant referee, Ruben Amorim's visitors were awarded a penalty for a foul on Rasmus Hojlund by Dani Vivian, who was subsequently sent off.

Bruno Fernandes then closed out the loud boos from the home fans to coolly place the spot kick into the back of the net.

And it was 3-0 before the break when Manuel Ugarte played a clever flick to send Fernandes through, the captain making no mistake with his opportunity.

The only disappointment for Amorim is perhaps that they did not score more in the second half to put the tie beyond any doubt.

On Harry Maguire's cross for the Manchester United opener:

I didn't know he had that in him by the way. I have never seen that in training before, but fair play to him. It was a great ball in.

The first leg at a raucous San Mames Stadium appeared in the balance until Harry Maguire evolved into a tricky winger and set up Manchester United's opener.

Having scored a dramatic 121st-minute winner as a makeshift forward against Lyon in the quarter-finals, Maguire dribbled past a defender before whipping a cross for Casemiro to head in.

His sharp footwork was likened to that of Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, so much so that the 32-year-old was labelled 'Harrydinho' on social media.

"What a winger! I don't think he even knew he had that in his locker," said his captain, Bruno Fernandes.
