Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, speaking to Channel 5: "I'm very happy with the performance especially as we have trained just three or four days together. We don't have time for pre-season. We have another game on Sunday.

"Not all of the players are going to be happy always. If they don't play, they're not happy. But they have to understand that they are all good - 22, 23, 24 players - and they have to understand that there will be many rotations."

On Estevao Willian's impressive performance: "He's very, very young. For sure, as I said yesterday, he is going to help the team. He's a fantastic player."

On strengthening his defence after Levi Colwill's injury: "It's a priority for me, yes, because Levi is a fantastic player. What we achieved last season is because of him also. I love him, I'm going to miss him."

Is there a plan to bring in another centre-back in this window: "We'll see, we'll see."

  11. 'Best feeling for the manager'published at 21:10 British Summer Time 8 August

    Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Former Chelsea striker on Channel 5

Chelsea now have competition in every position and that's what you need. They need to drive each other to be the best. Healthy competition and everyone fighting for their position...everybody wants to start every match. If you have that competition, it's the best feeling for the manager.

  12. Murphy and Elanga will push each otherpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 8 August

    Newcastle 2-1 Espanyol

    Ciaran Kelly
    Newcastle United reporter

One area Newcastle do have competition this season is out on the right-hand side. Expect Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy to push each other.

Elanga may just have the edge to start the season opener at Villa Park, but Murphy still has a big role to play.

  15. 'Chelsea are getting stronger'published at 21:06 British Summer Time 8 August

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on Channel 5

I see this group of players definitely getting better. I've seen them improve over the past year or two. I can also see that the players they are bringing in are better than the ones that were there before and have left.

They were top four last season in the Premier League. They'll want to do at least that this season. With what they have brought in and how they have started, that will not surprise me in the slightest if they do that again, even though other teams are getting stronger as well.

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on Channel 5

We are going to have to talk about Estevao Willian. I don't like to put too much pressure on the young man. However...there is a certain type of player they love here. Joe Cole, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola...and Estevao has got that wee bit of something special.

I'm not saying he is there. Obviously not. It's very early days. But he has got the capabilities to do that and it's exciting moments for him.
