Lewis Miley has impressed for Newcastle tonight with his work on and off the ball.

The youngster has clearly grown in size and is turning into a dominant force in the middle of the park.

Matt Targett looks for a quick throw into the path of the onrushing Park Seung-soo but he's off target with that one.

    Chelsea 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

A standing ovation for Estevao Willian as he makes way after 76 minutes. That's one heck of a shift by the 18-year-old.

He has the potential to light up the Premier League.

    Chelsea 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Will Chelsea go deep in the Champions League? Will they be up there challenging at the business-end of the Premier League season?

There are some encouraging signs but you can't form any conclusions on the back of one pre-season game.

There was not much Aaron Ramsdale could do for Edu Exposito's superb opener.

But the Newcastle debutant guessed right to keep out Javier Puado's penalty kick.

You would not have known it was a friendly. Not by the roar that followed.

There is a huge crowd here tonight. Although Newcastle are in action again tomorrow, and this has been a frustrating summer, Geordies have clearly missed match days.

  10. Postpublished at 20:28 BST 8 August

    Chelsea 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Into the final 20 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

This has been an encouraging display by Enzo Maresca's side, whose first Premier League match is at home to FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on 17 August.

    HT: Newcastle 1-1 Espanyol

Interesting to see how many changes Eddie Howe makes at the break with the amount of youth at his disposal on the bench.

A reminder that the Magpies play another friendly tomorrow against Atletico Madrid, where a different XI will be fielded.

Everyone looks to be tiring - apart from Jamie Gittens.

The new signing tries to hook it into the path of fellow substitute Joao Pedro but the keeper is alert to the danger.

Jamie Gittens has made a real impact since coming on. He's causing the Leverkusen defence all sorts of problems.

The big question is: will Chelsea transform this promising display onto the Premier League stage?

Mihir: He's undoubtedly a player with great potential but gives the impression that he believes he's bigger than the club. Wish he had been managed better at a young age. Nonetheless, I hope he achieves success in his career.

By the way, there were four Chelsea changes at the start of the second half. As well as the three mentioned in the 8:05 entry, Marc Cucurella made way for new signing Jorrel Hato.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:16 BST 8 August

All square in a very entertaining first half on Tyneside.

More of the same in the second please.

Park Seung-soo is a real live wire on that left wing as he uses his pace once again to get to the byline and dig out a cross.

One to look out for next season, for sure.

  20. Hato at left-back is significantpublished at 20:13 BST 8 August

    Chelsea 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

There's a real question of how Chelsea replace Levi Colwill following his serious knee injury this week.

New £37m signing from Ajax Jorrel Hato seemed a natural option but he is playing at left-back, not centre-back here in his first run out at Stamford Bridge.

If he was the replacement option in Enzo Maresca's mind, you feel he would be playing in Colwill's position but he has instead opted for right-footed options like Trevoh Chalobah and now Josh Acheampong.
