  3. Postpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Arsenal 1-1 Crystal Palace

A reminder that there's no extra-time if this ends 1-1 in 90 minutes, it will be straight to penalties.

I'll be surprised if we don't get at least one more goal here, though.

  4. Postpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Arsenal 1-1 Crystal Palace

Gabriel Jesus is having a great second half. He turns sharply inside the box before prodding a shot at goal, but Dean Henderson saves again.

Crystal Palace break forward in numbers and David Raya has to sprint back to get to his goal.

The Eagles don't make the right decisions with their passes, however, and the Gunners are able to get back in shape before Jefferson Lerma sends a low effort wide.

A couple more Nunez goals would be peachy, but the main thing is to make sure the job's done, get through the game with no new injuries and march into the semis

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

This has really opened up now as Crystal Palace look to try and regain the lead but Maxence Lacroix sends a shot over.

More changes for Palace now as ex-Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah comes on, replacing goalscorer Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Eberechi Eze also goes off with Daichi Kamada on. Oliver Glasner with half an eye on this weekend's game against Arsenal there.

Say what you will about how Tierney can’t fit into Arteta’s system in that left back/midfield hybrid role. My god I miss his direct runs down the wing to the by line and those fierce crosses whipped into the box. I really love Tierney and it’s sad he doesn’t seem to have a future in Arteta’s Arsenal.

It's a beautiful goal. It was a lovely ball into Gabriel Jesus by Martin Odegaard.

His first touch in the first half was not the best, but this time, it was exactly what was needed. It's a finish that is so subtle. He does it perfectly.

It has changed the complexion of this game completely.

Matty AFC: Jesus can't buy a goal for weeks and months and then takes that chance incredibly! Incredible self-confidence.

  12. 'Go out fighting'published at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    HT: Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brentford have been so poor. I know they have had a few problems with injuries but it is the quarter-final of the cup. If you are going to go out, go out fighting and thinking 'we had a go'.

If you lose you are out. It's not like a league game where you can look forward and think about getting three points next week.

  13. Postpublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool have scored 54 goals in 23-and-a-bit games under Arne Slot.

Their last defeat in this competition came on 22 December 2022 at Manchester City.

They're cruising into the semi-finals as it stands.

    Fantastic finish!

Mikel Arteta's half-time change pays off as Martin Odegaard slides a brilliant ball from midfield into the box for Gabriel Jesus, who rides a challenge from a defender before clipping the ball over Dean Henderson.

All square and you have to say deserved for how Arsenal have come out in this second half.

  15. 'Brentford haven't turned up'published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

Newcastle have turned up without really having to play how we normally see them play, with the high tempo and the pressing and the energy, but they didn't need to do it.

Brentford haven't turned up. It has been such an easy first half for Newcastle.

  16. Postpublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

It feels like Harvey Elliott has been around for years. He's still only 21!

That was his first goal since May and it has put holders Liverpool firmly in control at St Mary's.

It's a long way back for Southampton now.

  17. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Arsenal 0-1 Crystal Palace

Raheem Sterling of Arsenal has a shot saved by Dean HendersonImage source, Getty Images

    Superb save by Dean Henderson!

A cross from the left runs all the way through to Raheem Sterling, who looks certain to score but his low effort is denied by Henderson. The loose ball comes back to Sterling but he somehow clips his shot onto the bar.

    How is it not 1-1?

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

Newcastle are 45 minutes away from another Carabao Cup semi-final thanks to Sandro Tonali's double.

  19. 'Should have been game over'published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

That should have been game over.

Jacob Murphy, who we haven't seen much of in this first half, linked up well with Alexander Isak.

Newcastle went through the gears there and Brentford couldn't get near them.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

A great first-time effort by Alexis Mac Allister after being picked out by Trent Alexander-Arnold, an even better save by Alex McCarthy.

Southampton have to get to half-time without conceding another.
