After putting in a mature, eye-catching performance as England's creator-in-chief against Greece, Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham also played the elder-statesman when speaking with ITV Sport in his post-match interview, external.

Standing alongside Curtis Jones, another one of the Three Lions' star performers, Bellingham summed up the team's performance and win, which moved them top of Group B2 in the Nations League with one match remaining:

"A good win, an important win," he said. "A lot was made of the lads that weren't here but I think that the lads that were here, who showed up, were amazing.

"Curt [Curtis Jones] making his debut, scoring, playing as he did. Amazing - I'm really proud of the boys tonight.

"There would have been a million and one excuses if we didn't play well or didn't get over the line, but the lads went out and did the business so professionally. Back to the top of the group - where we belong."

I like it, Broe. Although Bobby Jones can't boast any England youth appearances.

What do we reckon, in the team for now?

England interim boss Lee Carsley on Jude Bellingham leading:

"I think Jude - along with the majority of the team - they have a different type of experience. If you look at the team tonight there's a lot of Champions League experience and that definitely helps on a night like tonight.

"They've done it for their clubs and now they have done it for England.

"I have spoken about the mentality they have got. They don't see themselves as a gamble. He leads but he doesn't just lead like that in games, he leads like that in training and his preparation."

What we need now from Thomas Tuchel, more than anything, is bravery. Bravery in picking a team that is balanced to go out and win games rather than picking all of our best players.

Jude Bellingham was brilliant last night. It looked like the team was built around him. He was free to go out and express himself.

In the first couple of matches under Lee Carsley, Jack Grealish seemed to be the one the team was built around. We looked great and Phil Foden and Bellingham were out of the team then.

But when we try and put all of them in the same team, it doesn't necessarily work because the balance isn't there.

Tuchel has to make some big decisions and leave some of those big players out at certain times.

Of course you can. Roger Jones is in for now, but we can replace him with other shouts.

Roger won one cap for the England Under-23s in 1968. His side lost 1-0 to Hungary.

England interim boss Lee Carsley on Harry Kane when he was told he was on the bench: "He was absolutely fine. It is fair to say he wants to play every game like all top players do.

"I think it's important that he understands that other players need the experience like that tonight. I expect him to start on Sunday and play well."

  10. Greek police criticised for treatment of England fanspublished at 09:07 Greenwich Mean Time

Some news to share this morning.

Greek police have been criticised after it was claimed they used riot shields and tear gas to control England supporters during the Nations League match with Greece in Athens.

The Football Supporters' Association (FSA) is asking fans to share their experiences of the situation that unfolded outside of the Athens Olympic Stadium on Thursday.

After the match, which England won 3-0, the Football Association released a statement saying it was aware of issues and were obtaining more information on what happened.

A quirk of sports and eligibility rules but I’m pretty sure that, Geraint as a Papa New Guinea born Australian of Welsh descent wouldn’t actually be eligible for the England National Football Team…

So, Harry Kane will definitely start against Republic of Ireland on Sunday. Unless, of course, Lee Carsley is playing the long game and bluffing.

Right call? Who else do you want to see starting?

  14. 'Kane will start the next game'published at 08:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Greece 0-3 England

    England

England interim boss Lee Carsley on captain Harry Kane being benched: "It was brilliant for Ollie [Watkins] to get a goal. I think it is important that if we are going to put these players in a position where we are going to go and win the World Cup then these players need to have as many experiences as they can.

"It was no slight on Harry. He will start the next game. A lot of positives to take from that performance."

  15. 'Shape of the team was really good'published at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Greece 0-3 England

    England

England interim boss Lee Carsley: "I think it was important. We spoke yesterday about matching their energy and enthusiasm.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game, we saw that at Wembley. I think it was important, like I spoke about, to attack and to try and be as creative as we could.

"The most pleasing thing about tonight was the amount of control we played with. The shape of the team was really good. We had a lot of possession, created a lot of chances."

That home loss to Greece last month didn't help his cause.

But last night was a very strong England performance, their best in a good while.

In fact, let's remind ourselves what Lee Carsley had to say at full-time...

I'm in shock at last night's England performance. Round pegs in round holes, a left footed left back playing at left back, wide players in wide roles and only one ageing, miles past their best, starter. Remind me again why Carsely didn't get a look in for the permanent role?

  20. 'Leaving out Kane now not a big call'published at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 Live chief football correspondent

What Carsley did here in leaving out the England captain and record scorer Harry Kane, when he was ‘absolutely fine’, means it will now not be such a big call for the German to do the same thing in 2025.

Last night perhaps also demonstrated to Tuchel - as if he didn’t know it already - the potential way ahead when you have Bellingham, Foden and Palmer at your disposal.

In the absence of the latter two, Bellingham put in his best all-round performance for England for over a year in a team selection that had real balance.
