Thanks Tim. Chris Jones makes the XI for now but he can always be replaced.

What was Chris Jones like as a neighbour? Mine isn't a a top-flight striker, although he does take our bins out when we're away. Legend.

How about Chris Jones the former Spurs player (1973-82). He was a forward who played once for England U21s (from Jersey). He also lived next door to me in the early 80s.

    Good one Andy.

Craig Bellamy quotes will be coming very soon. We'll also build up to Wales vs Turkey in a bit.

But do keep your England chat coming. Particularly on Harry Kane's position in the squad, and, of course, your favourite players with the surname Jones.

  5. Curtis Jones - pass masterpublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2024

Curtis Jones completed 65 passes in the 3-0 win over Greece, compared with 38 from Connor Gallagher, who he partnered in the base of England's midfield.

The majority of the work done by the Liverpool midfielder was in linking play, between defence and attack.

Further forward, Jude Bellingham completed 37 passes in his central role, behind striker Ollie Watkins.

Of Jones' attempted passes, only three failed to hit their intended target.

I made a post yesterday saying Curtis Jones is the best English midfielder at the moment, I had 50/50 in regards thumbs up and down. I wonder what people think now.

We're on about players called Jones so much because we've been inspired by the Curtis Jones' versatility.

Jones' all-action display for England in his debut against Greece is characterised by his heat map below, which shows his presence in every area of midfield.

It also includes one shining beacon in the opposition box, highlighting the Liverpool midfielder's finish for the Three Lions' third goal on the night - the 23-year-old's first for the senior side.

Yep, Joey Jones lifted two European Cups with Liverpool in the 70s.

Here he is taking a throw-in for Wales, who he won 72 caps for. Oh...

Group B2 men's Nations League table, with England top on 12 points above Greece (12), Republic of Ireland (6) and Finland (0)

Here is a look at how Group B2 stands, with England top on head-to-head record following Thursday's 3-0 win in Greece.

Just one round of fixtures remain:

    Sunday, 17 November

    • England v Republic of Ireland
    • Finland v Greece
  13. What do England need to do to qualify?published at 10:39 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2024

Just looking ahead to Sunday, England will want to be selecting their strongest XI.

That's because victory over Republic of Ireland at Wembley would see England promoted back to the top tier of the Nations League as group winners.

Placings of teams that finish equal on points are decided on head-to-head results and then head-to-head goal difference.

England lost 2-1 at home to Greece before winning 3-0 on Thursday in the reverse fixture.

Should the Three Lions drop points in their final fixture, Greece would finish top if they better England's result in their final game in Finland on Sunday.

Group runners-up can still win promotion via a play-off in March against a team that finishes third in Group A.

I can't be the only one who is really excited to see England picking a load of younger players from non-'big six' teams. So refreshing.

Also, is that Ricardo Carvalho at 10:22?

  16. Carsley has 'real confidence' in playerspublished at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2024

England interim boss Lee Carsley on his faith in younger players:

"I definitely have faith in younger players but I have faith in the older players too.

"You may have thought it was a risk but I have real confidence in them. I have seen evidence of it and now they have backed it up in an England shirt.

"We tried something at Wembley and it didn't come off. We tried again tonight with players that didn't have a lot of experience.

"Now that they have come to a place like Greece and won will stand us in good stead for the future."

  19. Bellingham shows leadership in performancepublished at 10:18 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2024

    Alex Howell
BBC football news reporter at the Athens Olympic Stadium

A lot was made before the match with Greece about the players who didn't turn up.

Unusually, that meant that Jude Bellingham went under the radar.

His performance on the pitch last night definitely did not. He was back to his best and his energy and quality was key to England winning the match.

He is only 21-years-old himself but has already made 39 appearances and was one of the most players the younger members of the squad and the players making their debut could look to for guidance.

Bellingham had been going through a rare tough period at Real Madrid but his performance and the fact he did join up for this international break should be praised.
