Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp is a big fan of Morgan Rogers and has been impressed by the connection between him and Ollie Watkins during the first half:

"They started the game really well Aston Villa, how quickly they manipulate the ball between each other.

"The relationship between [Ollie] Watkins and [Morgan] Rogers is strong and with the kind of form Rogers is in at the moment, you just cant allow him that space, great goal."

But it is Aston Villa who lead at the break, after Ollie Watkins headed in his fourth goal in three league games to complete the turnaround for the visitors.

As it stands, Unai Emery's side are heading up to second, level on points with leaders Liverpool, but on the basis of the first half they will be fully aware they have lots of work still to do.

This is the first time Villa have fallen 1-0 down in a Premier League game but led at half-time since February 2022, against Leeds in a match which finished 3-3...

A goal against the run of play got Ipswich Town off to the perfect start and Kieran McKenna's side will feel they have had enough decent chances to be level here.

With his well-taken goal, Liam Delap (21y 234d) is the youngest player to score in back-to-back home Premier League appearances for Ipswich - and is the first player to do so overall for the club since Finidi George in March 2002.

All three goals have been good finishes, but Ipswich will be disappointed after the start they had.

The finishes and touches from Morgan Rogers were excellent and then Ollie Watkins' goal was a very good team goal.

An entertaining first half comes to an end, with Aston Villa coming from behind to lead at Portman Road.

Definitely a yellow card. Sam Morsy knows that Morgan Rogers is away.

Morgan Rogers is limping a bit now to highlight his discontent to the referee, who chose to play on instead of awarding the Villa player a foul.

Rogers is back in the thick of it again and this time Ipswich captain Sam Morsy receives a booking for bundling Rogers to the ground.

Liam Delap also gets a booking for dissent.

We'll have three minutes of stoppage time added on at the end of the first half at Portman Road.

Emiliano Martinez undergoes the relevant checks, puffs out his cheeks and is back on his feet, although he isn't quite looking 100%.

Corner to Ipswich. Leif Davis has a little think about where he's going to place it but Ezri Konsa meets it to head clear.

Ipswich send another cross in and Emiliano Martinez comes out to claim but collides with Jacob Greaves and will require a bit of treatment.

Arijanet Muric is alert to the ball over the top and sprints out to collect before Ollie Watkins can cause any trouble.

Into the final five minutes of a really enjoyable first half. Can Ipswich find a response before the break?

Brilliant play from Ipswich. A great ball through to Liam Delap, but Emi Martinez does what he does.

He sticks his leg out and it is a brilliant save again.

Ollie Watkins has scored his fourth goal in the Premier League this season and has now scored in his last three games in the competition, his longest streak since a run of four games from 15th April 2023 to 18th March 2023.

This is the eighth time that Watkins has both scored and assisted in the same Premier League game, the joint-most by any Aston Villa player - matching Dwight Yorke and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

If he might have done better with Ipswich's goal, Emiliano Martinez has certainly just made amends.

Liam Delap is racing through on goal after a slick Ipswich move but Martinez makes a brilliant save with his outstretched boot to keep Villa ahead.

Kalvin Phillips unleashes a ferocious drive from outside the box which Emiliano Martinez manages to scramble across to reach and push away for a corner. He hit that so sweet and that would have been some goal.

Really good goal from Villa - a simple play.

They get the ball wide and whip it into the box.

Ollie Watkins free on the six-yard box and Muric has no chance from that angle.

One of the first times Villa have been simple - it was inch perfect.

Pau Torres tries to win the ball and doesn't make the challenge. It was a ball over the top from Delap that didn't have enough on it.
