A lot of talk has been around the team morale in the England team.

We’re waiting for the squad to come out to train on the pitch but we can hear the team in their pre-activation tent.

That’s where they do the stretching and muscle activation work before training.

There’s lots of cheering and jeering going on so it sounds like spirits are high.

  5. Negativity is 'creating an unusual atmosphere'published at 11:22 27 June

Gareth Southgate likened the negative noise around the England squad to what he experienced when an international player.

Southgate's side were booed off, and some empty cups were thrown at the Three Lions boss following another below-par display against Slovenia.

"I've not seen any other team qualify and receive a similar reaction," he said. "I'm very proud of the players for the way they handle it.

"The players kept composure in a game when they have come into it with a really challenging environment.

"It's taken me back to days when I was playing for England.

"I'm not going to back away from it. I understand the narrative towards me, better for me than it being towards them.

"It's creating an unusual atmosphere to operate in."

Not vintage England so far, but remember Portugal drew all their games in the group stages before winning the Euros... so keep the faith. There's every chance it could still be their time!

I honestly think that England have not performed well on purpose. Next game we'll just do enough to get through, then the possible meeting with either the Dutch or Austria is when the style will be turned on. Southgate should start with Mainoo, Palmer and Gordon, Foden at 10. We have a great run to the final but I am afraid that even if we win the whole thing you will still have the negative people out there saying it was the easiest route. WE WILL WIN THIS!!! Even with Southgate in charge. He has a plan... to make everyone think they don't have a plan

The England side are back out on the pitch today at their base in Blankenhain.

As we approached the pitch we could see Gareth Southgate in talks with his back room staff.

Southgate and his team have some big decisions to make ahead of the game on Sunday.

Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer had a positive impact to the team in the draw against Slovenia.

French side Lyon have made a £12.7m bid for Everton defender Ben Godfrey.

Godfrey joined from Norwich for £25m in 2020 and has gone on to make 93 appearances for the Toffees, including 16 last season.

The 26-year-old is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park.

Last season’s Europa League winners Atalanta are also understood to be interested in the Englishman.

"Frustrating" was the word used by England forward Anthony Gordon after his 88th-minute introduction to Euro 2024 in England's 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

The Newcastle forward is one of several attacking options to be used sparingly by manager Gareth Southgate in England's successful but stumbling group stage.

The feeling was that players such as Gordon, renowned for his work rate and ability to run in behind, could have helped with pressing.

And players such as Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo, both so calm in possession in tight areas, could have helped with the England team getting control in matches.

Against Slovenia, Southgate used all three of Palmer, Mainoo and Gordon to try to change the momentum of the game.

Gordon said after the match that the team "can do so much better".

"I won't lie to you, it's frustrating because I want to play, I think every player here does. It's difficult because we have so many good players."

"Watching from the sideline at any game at any level is hard. You just want to come on the pitch because you feel you can make an impact, I felt like I did when I came on.

"Training is so good every day and it's just not clicking. Hopefully in the coming games it will because we need to start attacking teams and dominating games."

Perhaps Foden's lovely circumstance will allow Gareth to start Gordon and Palmer and later bring on Foden for Bellingham.

Just a reminder that England midfielder Phil Foden has left the Three Lions' Euro 2024 camp in Germany and returned to the UK for the birth of his third child.

In a statement the Football Association said the Manchester City player, 24, needed to go home because of a "pressing family matter".

It is hoped Foden will be back with the squad by Sunday, the day of England's last-16 match against Slovakia (17:00 BST).

In April, Foden and his partner Rebecca Cooke announced on Instagram they were expecting a third child.

It's clear we haven't performed yet, but if you look back through history we hardly ever perform in the group stages. I have a feeling we will click in the knock out stages so all the negative people give it a rest and get behind the team. Do your criticising after the tournament

  13. Strong defensivelypublished at 10:44 27 June

Before Wednesday's games, the quality of chances teams create against England was the lowest in the Euros - an xGa measurement of 1.15.

One goal conceded and two clean sheets puts England second behind Spain in both those measurements, with Jordan Pickford setting a new England clean sheets record for men’s major tournaments (11 total).

  14. Bellingham looks very frustrated - Rooneypublished at 10:39 27 June

Former England captain Wayne Rooney says midfielder Jude Bellingham looks "very frustrated" at Euro 2024.

The Real Madrid player, 20, scored the only goal in England's opening Group C match against Serbia but has struggled to make an impact in draws against Denmark and Slovenia.

“Jude starts the first game well but I’m sure he’d tell you himself he hasn’t the best games in the last two games," Rooney told the Football Daily podcast.

"For me he’s looked very frustrated, I’ve been there exactly the position he’s in, even the game yesterday, you saw him throwing his arms up in the air.

"As a talisman for England and Real Madrid, I haven’t heard him in speak. What is the reason for that? As one of the iconic players now for England in the squad, he should be fronting that.

"That tells me that he’s probably not quite right in the tournament.

“He’s giving it his all, 100%, I don’t think that’s the problem. You want players demanding more from their team-mates, and I think that’s what he was trying to do.

"So, it’s not a criticism, it is a compliment in some ways but you just don’t want that to boil over to the point where he might pick up a silly red card."

  15. England's attack 'hasn't fired at all yet'published at 10:34 27 June

Former England striker Alan Shearer, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast: "The stats are pretty damning in terms of England creating chances. When you look at the talent we have got in forward positions - which we all thought was going to be one of our strengths - actually that hasn't fired at all yet.

"We can massively improve and we are going to have to."

It’s funny seeing the path that has been laid before England as it’s now surely the ultimate script for them to either reach another final and be heroes or not to do that and be absolute villains. Such drama… always!

    Nick, Kent

I can honestly see England going out in the semis against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria. I’m sure Ralf Rangnick will make it a personal thing to prove a point to the English media and United fans.

  17. Slow startpublished at 10:24 27 June

Before Wednesday's games, England's average xG of 2.26 for their three group games – which measures the quality of chances created - put them 19th out of 24 teams.

Their total shots of 29 and shot conversion rate of 6.9% ranked them 17th.

  18. 'Lack of urgency'published at 10:19 27 June

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy: "It is probably the urgency of our play, or lack of it. But that high tempo we all want to see is linked to the manager’s message really. It has to be a consistent theme coming from the manager to give the players the belief and freedom to be able to do it."

The draw for England now gives us the best chance we have got of bringing home a trophy, with the quality players we have. If it doesn't happen now, I'm not sure when it will. So let's stop with the 'experimenting' Gareth (which surely is what pre-tournament friendlies and training is for) and get this Euro's malarky nailed!

    Kelly, Nottingham

I'm actually looking forward to England v Slovakia. I think we'll see Luke Shaw (apparently the only English full back on the planet with a left foot... sorry Tyrick Mitchell, Gareth isn't looking) and also we'll see Kobbie Mainoo alongside Rice as Gareth finally goes for that elusive best player for best position approach. He needs to figure out how to stop Foden and Bellingham tripping over each others shoelaces and be brave enough IMHO to drop Saka for Palmer but now I'm reaching for the stars. He'll definitely need Palmer though if England play Italy as Italy will play for penalties.

  20. 'Lack of balance'published at 10:11 27 June

Phil Foden and Kieran TrippierImage source, Getty Images

Former England captain Gary Lineker, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast: "I still seriously worry about the tactical approach of the team. Phil Foden is one of the best number 10s in world football. I think there is a lack of balance to the team and I find it really, really strange that he doesn't play somebody on the left side that plays on the left side.

"I saw a little bit of spark in the players [against Slovenia] that if they do get the right set-up and play high, aggressively and brave, then I think they could do really well. Do I think he [Gareth Southgate] will play that way? No, I don't sadly."
